Mitsuko used her Scanner and Communicator to gather information and send it back to the Kaiyo, her curiosity first captured by the small X shapes she spotted on the alien trees. She made sure to see if the Scanner could determine if the marks were something created by the plant life itself, or left there by an outside source. Perhaps a chemical trace of some sort of pen or marker, or indications that it was burned or carved into the surface. "Kaiyo, I've spotted possible non-natural markings. There's...definitely...a chance we're not truly the first ones here. Have the other teams found anything similar?"

Other that this, things were quiet. Almost too quiet. "Has anyone encountered any native animal or insect life? I hear nothing...not even any sort of...bugs..." She made a face at the idea, as the group continued on. A few moments later, the Logistics Neko suddenly left the ground to zip forward as she saw Matsuvo looking at something on his finger. "Shinomori-Hei! What are you doing? The air may be relatively safe, but we have no idea what that is." She immediately began pointing her Science Scanner at his finger, and the substance clinging to it. "Shan-Hei, see what readings you can get from this...water..."

Komorebi, Landing Site

A hell of a lot of information was being uncovered even this early into the mission, Mochi analysed everything he could mentally and with the help of his trusty data pad. It was an interesting exercise for the Warrant Officer, normally he didn't do anything at all like this but it was in his job description. As Anastasia began and subsequently completed the shuttle restart, the blonde officer barely registered the fact until it was completed.

As she settled down upon the shuttle above him, Mochi glanced up at the sound. "Great, good work fixing the shuttle!" he exclaimed, it was a blessing their escape was secured so quickly. Processing the reports of building-like features and bleeding rocks of some sort, the scientist's mind whirred.

In his mind he built a mental picture of the scenari, linking the facts best he could reason. Buildings: life, intelligent with a use of tools and the ability to plan. Wood buildings: an inability or reluctance to use more advanced materials such as metal or stone. Trees with markings: a wood farm, X being which trees are ready to be felled for materials.

That was all he could be sure of, though he had an idea about the rocks. Intelligent beings: clever enough to make traps for hunting. Traps: blood. Bloody rocks: likely traps, such Venus flytraps.

'I'm missing something. What is it?' Mochi closed his eyes for a moment, trying to read between the lines. Perhaps the reason for the shuttle breakdown was caused by something on the planet.. Though how could a wood-based society have the capacity to create a device to shut it down themselves? Too many unknowns..

Educated guesses were good enough for now. "I can imagine the yellow trees are some sort of wood farm for the creation of those wooden building-things. Make sure you analyse everything you come across and don't stick your fingers in unknown substances.." he broadcast telepathically, before adding "Mitsuko is right, there's no animal life here at all.. That means they're either hiding or dead, where there's structures there's people, where there's plants there's animals and where there's blood there's life. Proceed with caution."

Then it struck him - what if the very land around them, every object and element, every normally inanimate and inert thing was an animal? Perfect camouflage, the perfect trap, the perfect evolution. Bleeding rocks.. it explains it. Shaking his head, Mochi made a whistling sound; it sounded mad even to him. Better safe than sorry - "I have a hunch that life on this planet is extremely well adapted to camouflage and ambush if we haven't been able to see it. Expect everything to be a threat in waiting."

Yes...that does appear to be an anomaly. No wildlife.

Wait, not just no wildlife. Nothing. Nothing but a little burbling creek and the rustling of wind. No sound from the buildings, no lights, nothing.

Nothing, nothing, nothing. It didn't make sense. It's all nothing. Such a quaint town, yet no lights? No sound, drifting through the wind? No smells of food, no sounds of the hunt?

A chilling thought struck Meissa, one that shook her warrior's resolve a little. She remembered bad plagues wiping entire Plebian civilizations off the map. Maybe...maybe...just maybe...

"This is Nashira." Meissa broadcast back. "If I may...this small encampment looks to be pretty dead from where we look. No activity detected whatsoever, yet the buildings exist. I think some very bad luck came by here, wiped the residents, and something-or-other happened. If these people are only just using wooden structures, no technology readable, they may have tried performing some ritual sacrifice to appease the 'gods' or something. In this case...I'd advise our medics to be very diligent. There may be infected materials still remaining."

She would kill for a M4 right now. Environmentally sealed and protected, good armoring...not to mention using a flamethrower to just casually purge the planet of whatevers.

With everyone else busy with what they had to do, Amanozako had begun her perimeter sweep. She focused first on the side of the landing zone that was not populated by Kaiyo crew. She looked for any sign of enemies that might be set up to ambush the landing party. Traps, weapon emplacements, enemy units waiting to gun them down. She flipped the faceplate of her helmet back down and swept along the perimeter, looking for anything out of the ordinary.

Amanozako frowned as she slowly moved along, her Impaler rifle held in her arms, ready to use if she found trouble. The ex-NMX neko paused in her sweep, frowning as she spotted something. She moved in on it, ready to shoulder her rifle as she moved in.

It was a path. A small one, faint one, leading away from the landing site, into the wilderness.

"Found something" she reported over the comm frequency to Mochi

The second smollest member of the force slapped Mat's hand at the wrist when he got rock blood on his hand. "Dammit Mat, that could be toxic!" Turning towards the river, she wondered.... And then Meissa's call came in. After but a moment, "Your boyfriend is poking rocks near this funky purple river. They're covered in some red fluid, might be something reacting with the water..."

At Mitsuko's request, the Shan armed her scanner and cautiously crept towards the uniquely-colored brook, hoping she was light enough to not trigger some sort of alien quicksand. She thought for a moment while collecting data, "Those marks... A trail, perhaps? Although.... Nothing. It's... too quiet, yes..." Sending a message via telepathy specifically to Mochi, Arb-Arb asked him to let the Kaiyō know of this... Unsettling feature. She hoped the other Plumerias had something to say, some sort of animal activity... Dead worlds are indeed unsettling.

"Is there any carbon dioxide or anything these trees live off of?" Meissa asked back. She didn't have a science scanner, sadly. But she did know basic biology. "If these trees work like trees that emit oxygen and take in carbon dioxide, then there must be something making the carbon dioxide."

Of course, there were plausible answers other than animals making the gas. She didn't know the fine details of an ecosystem (that was some other nerd's job), but she did know that animals missing would cause overabundances of plants and such. That was not biology. That was logic.

Bravo Besekers

Yoshida Stared intently for many moments at the structure ahead as chatter flew back and forth over the distant teams and various conjectures. After a moment she wondered when everyone's legs would tire from jumping to conclusion after conclusion. She shuffled forward quietly as she observed the fort, and focused on the task at hand.

"Allright soldiers- and civillian." She said as she looked to William. "We probably won't find anything out from sitting here and burning through rations on a stakeout of the fort that looks to be pretty empty! We are going to cautiously advance and investigate. Rei can turn fully invisible unlike the rest of us and, might even have training in infiltreation, she can check if the fort is fully empty or not without risking the entire team, who would probably be spotted."

Orion was whistling up on the tree top, slightly tapping on his weapon as he heard all the comm chatter in the background. It was pretty relaxing up there on that redwood tree, appart from the talking, it was peacefully silent, well... For him atleast.

He then got the feeling he was being watched and looked down at the landing site. He spotted Anastasia, who was perched on the top of the shuttle, who was looking at him. He waved at the Cobalt winged Elysian.

The science scanners turned up two different things. Mitsuko's was less clearly defined than Arbitrated Shan's.

The pink-winged Elysian's read out as:
Homogeneous solution of potassium permanganate in water.

The orange-paneled Neko's read out as:
⚠Unknown poisonous substance⚠

"Hai!" Rei said tersely to Yoshida and flew up to gain a vantage point on the structures that were more than a hundred feet in the air.

She began her exploration of the structures by moving above them silently, stealthily, and invisibly. She did not bring a FARS with her. No, that would be much too conspicuous. Instead, she floated about the vast wooden network without disruption of its current state. There were no signs of life, nor death. There were no signs of... Anything, really. She relayed nothing back to the team on the ground. She was too intent on unearthing the sites to be seen.

No piece of tech was left behind, but there was furniture in the buildings she went into and what looked like great empty spaces inside of some of them that could be where objects were moved out of the buildings. The platforms were troublesome, as well, to the samurai. She did not know why they were there, perhaps for ceremony or perhaps for some other use, she did not know.

When the green-eyed Leeta Aoi hailed her via telepathy, the Eihei said nothing but a quick, "Come up if you want to see."

Wooden platforms, houses, and entire businesses could be seen by Leeta as she joined in the fun.

"I think I'll just—" Leeta began telepathically as she set her foot down on the base of a building to try to pick up a piece of furniture to do something with.

The entire building came crashing down around her and she had the wherewithal to scream out over telepathy only, duck her head and curl into a ball, but she didn't realize that she would be pulled down with the hurtling mass of wood that was about to meld with the ground. In an instant, she was plummeted the great number of feet to the ground and screamed externally in pain as she hit the ground as the wood and objects scattered and shattered around her. Not only was she mildly hurt by the fall, her leg had been impaled by a piece of wood that was buried deep into the ground below her and her thigh.

She sat up and gasped, taking deep breaths and heard Rei shouting out telepathically.

"Yame!! Yame! Turn off your pain receptors!"

She did so and gripped her leg on either side of the foot wide and four foot long plank of wood protruding from her leg.

"Medic?!" Leeta mewed.

Teien Eden nodded to Misaki and asked Deio Asuka, "Anything?"

"We've had to find out somethings that weren't on the initial analysis through footwork, but I'm finding that there's nothing that I'm picking up as far as unknown life forms, L'Kor, nothing. This planet's dead. Well, it's got life on it. Plant life. But other than that and our away teams... Nothing."

"Right," Eden said to the sensors operator and turned to the communications operator's station. He was engrossed in work and the Taii genuinely smiled. Seeing a Santo Hei so adept and capable was rare. She liked the way he worked. Now, to get his attention.

She telepathically nudged him, saying quietly as she turned back around, "As you get information, feel free to share, Santo Hei." Though the rest of the bridge could hear, he was indeed the only Santo Hei there. He would surely know to whom the comment was directed at.

Komorebi, Landing Site

After a few minutes of being spaced out staring at the local nature, Anastasia realized she had found herself staring right at the allied sniper. "Oh, oh. I'm staring I'm sorry what do I oh God he's waving he's noticed. Just, be natural."

Anastasia slowly, and awkwardly, waved back. Orion then hears her speak, as if right beside him. Telepathy. "Do you see anything?"

Komorebi, Bravo Path

Upon seeing the building crash down, and the painful request for medical assistance come from the infantry Neko, Endo kicked into action. Slinging her medical bag over her shoulder and taking off across the forest ground, she sped along without her feet touching the ground, kicking up a wake of leaves like a small speedboat. "I'm coming, Leeta!"

Endo swirled around the landing sight like a roomba, moving planks and timbers off and away from Leeta. She then kneeled next to the Neko, opening the medical bag. She took out a medical scanner and injected a dose of medical Nanomachines into Leeta's body via the shoulder, giving her a chilling sensation.

After wiping the area around the wound clean, Endo got to work on removing the impaled timber, carefully like a stuck arrow. "If it helps at all, I think you did a sick flip on your way down! I give it a ten!"

"I mean, at least she tried." Meissa replied. She didn't dive for Leeta -- her wings were not iron and would have just ended up broken. Losing the asset of her wings would be...disastrous.

Meissa started examining the broken bits of wood. "So, nothing there. Almost like an exodus, except not one from a threat. Because that would mean it would be burned. Either old, or Leeta was too heavy for the structure. We need this tested."

Orion blinked twice at what he just heard, he wasn't really that experienced with telepathy, he shook his head.

"Appart from trees, and nature, no I don't see anything"

The Elysian looked around to reassure himself, not really much out of the ordinary. No animals around, nothing really alive that was a threat visible.

"I heard there was trouble with the reactor at the shuttle, just out of curiosity, what happened?"

The ground team finally appeared to be doing their jobs as scans and imagery were sent up and received by the Kaiyo. Water samples, a mineral scan and - his eyes widened as he felt a light, but noticeable prod. Riku turned slightly and nodded at the Captain's suggestion, returning his attention to the console as MEGAMI alerted him to a sudden burst of energy coming from one of the FARS units planetside. This only meant one thing - that the the owner had suffered sufficient enough external or internal injury that the automatic distress beacon activated on its own accord. "MEGAMI, leave the data for later. Prioritize the beacon, identify the owner and their current location."

"Understood ... ... triangulating signal ... identifying unique security code .... it is done. The FARS general distress originates from Leeta-hei, YSS Kaiyo, Bravo. The FARS' medical diagnostics component
reports an injury suffered upon the left-most inner thigh. Multiple bruises and minor fractures detected. Patient is stable. Pulse is erratic but within normal parameters. Heart rate and blood pressure spiked. Internal readings unavailable. Recommend immediate medical attention by trained professionals"

Riku nodded, "Eden-taii, Bravo has suffered one casualty. Injured from a fall it looks like. A substantial piece of debris from the structure has also lodged itself within Leeta-heis' leg."

He would prioritize crew reports over the planetary research but even that soon followed afterwards as he continued.

"The scans of what little plant life, water and the surrounding areas are inconclusive as well. The water appears to be a highly concentrated and pure form of spring water with elements of an anti-bacterial, anti-coagulant and other such medical novelties. The mineral scan registers that the substance it seems to ooze is an as of yet unknown component that's extremely poisonous."

Snapping off another report he went back to concentrating on the chatter going on between the group's team leaders.

Anastasia's mind skipped a frame as the question is her work came up, Orion able to hear what would be rapid, somewhat embarrassed thoughts, neither of them being quite good with telepathy. "Just, tell it like you knew it all along."

After a few moments of accidentally projected thought, Anastasia responded. "Well, the reactor energy was plummeting. There was no physical tampering to it, but I found that giving it a cold restart got it back to full energy output."

"wait whaaa... How could it be leaking energy if it hasn't been touched?? That makes no absolute sense... Unless...."

Unless what... Finish the sentence! Orion scolded himself, he had started staring at Anastasia's wings, to that Cobalt color he just couldn't stop looking at. He shook his head, trying to end the stare.

"What was I talking about again...?"

Bravo team

Yoshida blinked in suprise as Leeta ran out to explore the buildings. "Ah- i don't think that's-" Yoshida sighed as she ran off- deciding that she'd let her have her fun, but motioning for the others to stay put thank you very much. IT wasn't untill the building absolutely collapsed that yoshida nearly jumped out of her skin.

She gritted her teeth and hopped up as Endo the medic rushed to Leeta's aid, having decided that escorting the medic was a very important task here. "Allright- okay you good? Next time let's let the samurai finish the scouting beforehand yeah?" She quickly looked about th elocal area, looking for the slightest signs of movement as Endo did her duty. We may not have seen anything alive yet but that doesn't mean it'll be that way forever!

"This building must have been extremely old, or compromised by some kind of local bug if there is one. Somone check the age of this wood making up the structure if you can!" She practically barked that out telepathically to the others in bravo as she made sure to fully cover the injured neko and endo.

Komorebi, Landing Site

Anastasia was already on an awkward tangent, not noticing the rather lewd stare. "Well as have a hunch that some form of 'zoning' effected the reactor. Like how your ears pop when changing elevation. It worked fine after the restart, so I feel we need to be cautious when leaving. If the reactor goes while escaping the atmosphere, things could get... hairy."

After a moment of silence, Anastasia relayed that message to the rest of the crew.

"Shinomori-Hei, I would highly advise you activate your poison and disease counter agents and cleanse your bloodstream of any potentially harmful foreign compounds. Immediately." With their pint-sized Medic being slow, unwilling or unable to help, Mitsuko removed her backpack to reach a hand inside for supplies. Thankfully the well organized Neko knew exactly where everything was, retrieving disinfectant and gauze a few moments later. She sprayed and wiped at Matsuvo's finger to remove the alien material, dropping the dirtied material into a sealed bag for later examination. Murakami made sure to disinfect her own hands as well.

"...now try not to touch anything. Or die." She kept an eye on the soldier, watching for any symptoms as she lifted her pack in one hand. "Shan-Hei, in light of Shinomori-Hei's possibly imminent demise, we shall be returning to the shuttle." Mitsuko turned to look that direction as the reports of interest and injury came in from Iemochi and the other team. That was another good reason to retreat. She waved the pair of Infantry into turning around as soon as they reached the group, leaving Arbitrated to prod the possibly poisoned person along.

Amanozako frowned. Seems her announcement to the team leader that she had discovered something was going to go unanswered. She grumbled something about the lack of attentiveness of the Yamataiain command structure and shouldered her rifle as she moved in on the path. She would check it out on her own.

The ex-NMX neko cycled her visual modes as she reached the start of the path, pausing to see if anyone was waiting to shoot at her there, any strange heat signature like a person and she would let them have some bursts of scalar energy from her impaler.

"Well, since no one is paying attention"
she said over the landing party comm channel, "I am going to investigate it myself" she said and started slowly working her way along the path.

William nodded to Yoshida. "Yes Ma'am." he said softly. He watched on as Rei flew forward and began to investigate the fort. The Nepleslian's fear attempted to bubble its way back to the surface, but he forced it back down.

Then he watched as Leeta fell and impaled her leg. William stood motionless in shock for a second before sprinting towards the fallen Neko, with the medic.

He ran forward and began hefting pieces of the building off the fallen Neko, slowly making a path for the team to pull her out.
