RP: Elysia [Mostly above Elysia] Launch the Arks!

Three hours after returning to his ship Arbion was sitting on its bridge and getting the results of a final status check. Sure certain losses had to be made in order to finish the preparations in the time needed, but actually not as many as might be expected. And it hardly mattered in any case – what was the temporary inconvenience and pain of a few hundred for the eternal glory of Arbion and the Empire!

And so now the bay doors closed and locked, and orders were passed out that everyone was to go to their assembled quarters and to remain their for the launch. An hour into the journey they could emerge. Small teams of Elysian Infantry and Seraph were circling the ship to enforce this curfew – partially in order to give them something to do.

The Itineris broke away from orbit in a slow turn and leisurely took up a position one AU away from New Elysia with the front of the ship pointing towards its destination. Not far away in astronomical terms lay the Dawn and the Dagian, both staying at the one AU distance and point towards their relevant systems. On the Itineris the frontal screen of the bridge came to life showing the quietly smiling Senator Sheatiel. Sheatiel was a rather dashing looking Elysian, but the truly stunning figure was the one sitting on his lap – his husband, Slarael. Slarael’s body seemed to combine the attractive features of man and woman without looking androgynous that it was widely (if quietly) speculated that he had been genetically modified.

“In the midst of your farewell you decided you could not be parted?” Arbion asked the couple wryly.

“Quite my dear Senator. There is little point founding a new home if you don’t have your beloved there with you.” Sheatiel grinned, tracing his fingers up Slarael’s leg, “You really must find yourself a man Arbion.”

“Sheatiel I have told you,” Arbion tried to remember thinking it would be more amusing this way, “thirty four times that I do not find our own gender attractive.”

“A woman then.” Sheatiel waved his hand nonchalantly as if a minor matter such as gender mattered not at all, “The important thing is that you are going to find the next few years particularly dull if you do not find someone to spend them with.”

“I shall see.” Arbion smiled slightly. He really did like the couple Sheatiel and Slarael, although given their somewhat irreverent nature it was only Sheatiel’s nigh on unsurpassed capacity for administration that had gotten him this position, “We must speak more later, but for now – when do we leave?”

“The speech will be over in ten minutes or so, then we can blast off in to the unknown.” Sheatiel said detachedly as he continued to trace his fingers over his lover.

Currently the elected speaker of the Senate was giving a suitably grand speech to the people over the great advance this was for Elysia, its religious significance and so forth. The launch of the arks – as displayed on every screen on the planet – was to the finale.

“I will leave you two alone,” Arbion said with a light tone to his voice, “I have a few more things to do, you have a few more things to do” (in Seraphim that was a subtle sexual innuendo), “I shall speak to you on the other side.” He had the comms officer deactivate the channel and replace it with the more normal starscape.

Around about ten minutes later Arbion was communicated with by the Senate, “Oh servants of the one true God, being your holy mission in 10 … 9 … 8 … 7 … 6 … 5 …” The great Combined Distortion Drives began to activate, “4 … 3 … 2 … 1.” The ship activated its CDD and almost instantly it accelerated to 10,000c in a bright flash of light, just as the other two arks did the same – down to the same nano-second.

Arbion found himself smiling inside, he was at last off – in command of his ship and beyond the annoying limitations of red-tape and ceremony – at least the variety not instigated by himself. Now his time has come – for glory and the empire.

The journey would take slightly over 17.532000 hours. The passengers were welcome to explore the ship, but most of the facilities on it had been replaced with storage space for the prodigious amount of equipment and S-18’s which the ship was bringing with it.

Escorting the ship was a Battlecruiser, four Fast Attack Frigates and a Crataeis. They would be prepared for whatever the system had in store – although the Orisis’ ensured them that there was no significant artificial constructs in the system they could detect: simply three seemingly habitable planets and a series of gas giants. Personally Arbion thought he might not have been quite as hard done by as he originally had supposed.
