He was an aging Nepleslian, a man who by the warm glow in his eyes was an exception to the norm of the war-grizzled veteran. Maybe he just took to the job better than others, for he had a small medal from the Battle of Nepleslia on display on the corner of his desk, and few people who came out of that battle were unscarred. Whatever the reasons, he looked at the small person with his slumped shoulders and face creased from pains he couldn't read as someone down on his luck.
