A promo video runs, showcasing the fantastic fights that took place in the NO-CBL All Contender's last season; fighters from the races of the Kikyo sector, all brawling it out in the ring to the tone of an "absolute banger" of a track -- as the young Funky City kids say -- with countless highlights of big fights.
The applause of the arena dimmed; the first year of the circuit had run slower than expected but the All Contender League had come to a close. The battered body of Frauss Kolbstein, otherwise known as the 'Absolute Unit' Abwheren, lay in one corner knocked out. An Oberflauchenbewohner - or Surfacer - who had shaken the league in the military absence of the first year's champion Axium Mandrake had been stopped by last year's runner-up. One of Dreamsweeper's arms had been shattered in round five when the Abwheran delivered a four-fisted strike, yet he had stuck it out for six more rounds before delivering the best uppercut of his career. This season Dreamsweeper 54 had returned to the ring with wheeled legs that had held up with the trauma of body blows far better than the last.It had all paid off.
The NNN's blonde anchorwoman entered the ring with fight pass in hand, approaching the Automata as the music boomed its final notes and faded out. The ring's officials had stepped aside and made way, whilst GORETOES - box-shaped Automata assistants who escorted Dreamsweeper - 1, 2, and 4 wheeled over and changed their elevation to fulfill a simple role as steps, bringing her up to the nearly eight-foot-tall Freespacer... before she lowered her microphone with a big grin.
"That was a fantastic bout, Dreamsweeper 54? How are you feeling?"
The massive bot's head came into view on the camera; it was a featureless sphere with a trio of camera lenses on the right side, with an armor plate on its left side dented from a few hooks thrown in a fierce combo in Round 11.
"DIAGNOSTICS REPORT: OPERATIONAL. THIS UNIT IS ELATED. STATUS REPORT TO FATHER GRINDFIST: SUCCESS."
Dreamsweeper raises his two right hands, signaling a portion of the audience to start beeping and blaring machine noise. A collection of automata who followed him vehemently through the season. The anchorwoman nodded, not even phased in the slightest. As soon as he lowered them, the noise stopped and his head rolled around to his eyes nestled above the dinted plate to emulate a broken-faced 'grin' and his voice chimed at a more intimidating growl.
"LOG ENTRY: THIS UNIT NOT SATISFIED. SUBJECT AXIUM MANDRAKE NOT DEFEATED; CARD UNSETTLED. SCORE REMAINS CONSISTENT ZERO-ONE SUBJECT AXIUM MANDRAKE. PROCESS 'PARTICIPATION IN NO-CBL' IS ESTIMATED GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 'RETIREMENT FROM SERVICE' UNTIL SCORE IS IN FAVOR OF THIS UNIT."
The blonde blinked... and finally brought her mic back to her face.
"Are you saying that you refuse to retire until you defeat Axium Mandrake? The man who snatched the title from you in the first-ever competition before being deployed into active service in the early start of this fighting season?"
"ASSERTION IS CORRECT," Dreamsweeper buzzed before his head rotated back with a clack. "AXIUM MUST FACE OPERATIONAL DEFEAT BEFORE SATISFIED. OTHER SUBJECTS NEVER POSED TRUE CHALLENGE TO THIS UNIT. UNDERWENT MODIFICATIONS TO PREPARE FOR AXIUM; THIS UNIT MUST FACE MORE OPPONENTS FOR DATA."
She nods and turns to face the camera, slowly lowering before taking a step off the little bots. GORETOES 3 rolls into the shot for only a moment before the bots turn and roll toward the side of the arena. The belt that Axium had one lay across its head, carrying the belt for the victorious Automata and blaring strange Freespacer music in celebration.
"Well, there you have it, folks! Our brief talk with Dreamsweeper 54, the new champion of the NO-CBL's All Contender League! The season ran long but with names like Frauss Kolbstein entering and making the competitions so hectic, it can only be expected! The new season of the All Contender League will be starting soon, with the hope to introduce even more fighters with name cards! The New Yellows had been so busy booking arenas across the Imperium that they had little fighters who were able to maintain a following... but that's changing this year! The storming success of the League has led to many orphans getting warm homes and encouraging even more youths to join the NSN or NSMC! There has never been a better time to be Nepleslian! Not only that but the NO-CBL has begun reaching out to foreign powers hoping to bring more giants like Frauss into the fold... except this time to represent other nations! Will those silly kitties in Yamatai join? Will the Lorath send one to help earn some additional publicity for relief efforts? Only time will tell! Coupled with the rumor of an official suit design being prepared for league introduction kits, as well as variations for nearby species within the sector, now is the time for folks to put on their gloves and sign up for their local leagues or the All Contender!"
