The dry heat of the planet caused the inhabitants of Delta Base to shift uncomfortably. While the temperature was not necessarily hot, it brought discomfort to those who would rather be indoors. Sydney, Wallace, Blake, and Gideon all stood with a few platoons of marines outside of a small two-story building where the men and women in charge of the base resided. They all stood at attention despite the air clawing at their faces. In front of them was a muscular Nepleslian of seven feet named Colonel Werlein with a cybernetic left eye and a robotic right arm, a sign that he had seen many battles. He paced up and down the line, staring into the eyes of the soldiers as if he was examining their souls for any signs of weakness.

Once he was satisfied with the conditions of his troops, he spoke, "I can see it in your eyes. You are all eager to kill some bugs."

Werlein shook his head followed by a sigh, "I share your interests. Unfortunately, our desires will have to wait as Command has deemed something of a higher value for us to take care of us. An army of rebels led by a man who has a way with words and a knife's edge. His name is Xavier Curtis, but he goes by Axe. His merry band of rabble rousers have pushed our forces out of one of our outposts west of here. The top brass want us to go on over to that outpost and show those hopeful rebels what happens when you cross the Nepleslian military."

"If it's Red, it's dead sir!!" an overly excited male private yelled out in the position of attention. His cybernetic "sunglasses" shielded his still meaty eyes. This gave him some degree of protection from the hot, dry, and dusty desert air.

Descending from the sky, there would be a suit of custom power armour that would enter the airspace of Delta Base. The anti-air defences would not target it as it was broadcasting the correct IFF codes, and then it would land heavily with a powerful thud of metal. It was roughly humanoid, seven foot tall, and had glowing eyes. Pretty decent support against rebel rabble.
# Nepleslian Auxiliary reporting# Egwene spoke, her voice modulated to be mechanical so nobody would raise an eyebrow. While she wasn't in the army proper, a woman with assets like her could hardly complain when the army requisitioned her for an op like this.

Werlein's head snapped to the private who blurted out his excitement. He noted the soldier's enthusiasm and smiled. Werlein stepped up to the private and said, "Your eagerness is duly noted. Unfortunately, it won't be the Reds we'll be fighting today. Just a man and his private army. Don't let that discourage you through Private, for I'm sure in the future there will be plenty of time for you to feed lead to some Reds. What's your name Private?"

The Colonel stepped back and continued to pace up and down the ranks. He was ready to provide more of the briefing when he was interrupted by the arrival of someone in power armor. After Egwene gave her introduction, Werlein stated, "You have some serious guts dropping into a military base like that. I'll be honest though, I was not expecting to get power armored support. Anyway, how about you line up with the others so I can finish the briefing?"

While Egwene's arrival was unexpected, no one in the ranks was complaining. The sight of an individual in power armor usually meant a boost in support against the enemy. Werlein continued his briefing, "The target outpost contains a few AA guns, anti-tank weapons and technicals. Apart from that the majority of the rebels are just poor boys and girls in basic flak armor and minimal training. There are a few armored brutes though, but I'm sure you marines know how to deal with threats like them."

Werlein surveyed his forces one last time before he asked, "Any questions before you all head out?"

#I called ahead. Didn't just drop out of the sky and hope they didn't blow me away. That'd be daft# the modulated voice replied. Listening to the briefing, she'd nod softly. AA guns were pretty rough, she'd lose air advantage from that. The L-3000 was a Combat Flightsuit, so without being able to fly she was just a big suit of armour without much in the way of weaponry. Still, if they were just boys and girls in basic flak, that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

#I'll handle the Brutes. If you've got and DMRs or Snipers I'd appreciate a focus on the anti-tank weaponry# Egwene would put in. A request, more than anything because she was third party here and had no real authority. Or fake authority, for that matter.

"Private Horatio Carver sir!!!" The man responded to the Colonel's question with the same level of enthusiasm as before. The fact they were not Reds disappointed him a bit, he always has bullets with their names on them. But he wasn't exactly picky on adding more names when needed.

He didn't think the Colonel would respond back and the arrival of the rather interesting power armor just cemented it. He didn't particularly react at her arrival, but he certainly did start to redo his calculations for combat.

"Carver. I'll keep that in mind," Werlein responded when he spotted Gideon with his hand raised.

"Yes trooper?" Werlein asked the tank commander who responded with, "Do we know of any hostages in the outpost?"

"Fortunately, most of the survivors were smart enough to haul ass out of there. Based on reports, these rebels seem to have a "take no prisoners" policy. That's perfectly fine in my book. If anything it just gives us the motivation to hammer them harder," Werlein answered as some of the marines chuckled. Werlein then turned to Egwene and said, "I'll trust that my boys and girls in green will take care of the anti-tank guns. Also, don't turn this into a competition now, otherwise my men might kill each other trying to get the most points."

This lead to some more voracious laughter that subsided faster than one could say "artillery".

"Any other questions?" Werlein asked.

Silence followed and after a few moments, Werlein's face turned serious and he said, "Alright, due to the presence of AA guns Command has forbidden us from utilizing aircraft. It will be a combined arms assault with two Maximus battle tanks as support, Hector's Bus and Iron Shell. Now get to the armory and gear up. Be ready to roll out within the hour! Move it soldiers!"

The participating platoons as well as Sydney and his fellow crewmen raced off to the armory to stock up. As soon as they were in the building, Sydney and his three friends were met with the cool air of the AC units. The chilly breeze washed over them like an icy ocean as they reached the armory and selected sidearms for defense should Hector's Bus get disabled and they have to abandon it. Sydney and Wallace opted for Styrling Silver Specials, Blake selected an ESG, and Gideon picked out an HHG.

Egwene would head to the armoury and spend her hour spot-welding a pair of M115s to the armours shoulders. It was crude but would last the fight and give her some much needed anti-infantry. The reload boxes gave her two hundred rounds in all, which allowed a hundred to be sprayed out in the initial break to put their heads down and then the second box for more precise fire. Maybe it would be a surprise for this demure young thing to step out of the armour and then start welding guns to it, but that was Egwene, she lived to confuse.

When the time was up, Egwene was found outside, ready and waiting to bust open their doors and give them a nice hello.

Horatio joined with the others in the brief laughter. The thought that they were like the Rixxikor he heard so much about angered him so much all he could do was laugh. Not having any to say, he was a mere private after all, he quickly walked to the awaiting environmental controlled location.

"Why do military bases always pop up in the most shit places?" He muttered to no one in particular. He was new and had no friends. Not that it bothered him too much considering he was a sniper school phase 2 wash out.

He armament of choice was the trusty 6.8mm barreled M115 SPAID and Na-W/P-08 Heavy Automatic Sidearm. Spraying his big load on the faces of his foes was his thing as a Marine Gunner.

Wallace overheard Horatio's question and with a smirk replied, "Because that's where the most shit people are. The people that we are assigned to deal with."

"Like Colonel Werlein said, they'll more than likely be poorly armed rebels with a few heavies sprinkled in," Gideon added as he kept himself from spinning his sidearm as much as he was tempted to.

Several marines watched Egwene attach extra equipment to her armor as they selected their own loadouts. Some of them observed with interest while others looked on wondering how the Quartermaster would feel with their weapons being welded into place like that. By the time the hour had passed, the marines and crewmen assigned to the operation were back outside. The majority of the troopers loaded into the backs of trucks while several others opted to ride on the sides of the two MBTs. Inside the MBT Hector's Bus, Sydney is examining the weaponry, making sure that everything is in working order while Blake checked out the driving mechanisms to ensure that nothing was at risk of breaking down.

When everyone was loaded in, the assault force rolled out west toward the designated outpost under enemy occupation with Hector's Bus and Iron Shell taking the lead.

Adding a sub-routine for ballistic trajectory while they moved out, Egwene had the m115s intergrated by the time they arrived at the designated outposts. No turret system so they were singular in firing cone and she'd have to manually move to fire in an additional angle, but that was fine. They were auxiliary after all. Simulations of continuous recoil on the servos were good, the ammo boxes wouldn't last long enough to cause and real stress to the system, though thirteen point five percent chance they ripped out of their weldings. It was pretty spotty after all.

Not taking her 7ft tall suit of armour into the MBT, she would fly just above it to the side, showcasing why the suit was named a Flightsuit rather than Power Armour. It was good armour, but far, far better for flying than taking a tank round. And then when they got close, she'd peel away, flying just below the clouds and doing a mach-speed fly over, taking pictures that she'd stream back to the people on the ground so they had present intel on what they were going to fight.

"Well I can't argue with that. It is a shame they aren't Reds and just some fucking morons in need of pruning from the gene pool." Horatio responded to Wallace's statements. He then nodded to Gideon, not paying any particular attention to Egwene and her armor. He took off the barrel and opened up the top to look into the weapon to make sure nothing looked out of place as he waited. Satisfied it was operational, he put it back together and leaned up on a wall in wait.

Once it was time to load up, he made he was the last person loading into Hector's Bus. He was going to be need to quickly keep the morons' heads down and he couldn't do that if he was in the middle of the pack.

The trip through the field took about twenty minutes at most. Most of the soldiers remained silent, though there was some chatter among them. The main one that Horatio could hear if he was listening was regarding the situation with the Kuvexians and how they wanted to "squash some squids". Inside Hector's Bus, the crew remained on high alert with each member manning their station with the highest efficiency. Egwene's scouting operation would show the attacking force a live feed of a medium-sized outpost and what its defenses consisted of.

Four quad AA guns were stationed in the four corners of the outpost. There were two ways to enter and exit the outpost in opposite positions and each one had a heavy anti-tank gun and a mounted machine gunner guarding them. A few watchtowers were present with one guard in each of them. Parked along the inner portion of the outpost's defensive wall were four technicals. Three of them were mounted with light machine guns while the fourth possessed a plasma cannon. Like Colonel Werlein said, the rebels wore basic flak armor and while many of them possessed rifles and submachine guns, there were a select few carrying M3s that were likely looted from the outpost's armory.

Several large tents along with a two-story building were inside the outpost as well. Their target, Xavier Curtis could be residing in the tallest building. None of the aforementioned armored rebels could be seen, but they may be inside the building guarding Curtis. Egwene could see a couple threats outside of the outpost as well. They were a pair of mortar teams set up in crevices that were on the side of the outpost that was the opposite of where the green spear was approaching.

Thanks to this intel, Lieutenant Ray Thorson who was tasked with leading the operation ordered, "Stop behind that hill."

They did so and Thorson said, "All units dismount. Our tanks can't advance until we take out those AT guns."

Marines began to take position behind the hill. One of the marines equipped with a DSR Model 1 took a prone position just at the crest of the hill. Thorson turned to Horatio and whispered to him whilst pointing at the AT gun and MG emplacement facing them, "When the heads of that AT crew get popped, you keep them suppressed."

#Pair of mortar teams. Esh and Upsilon, marked on the HUD. I'll move in to take Esh and then turn the mortar against the AT gun. I can handle Upsilon as well if you'd rather keep guys for the gate attack# Egwene spoke to the guys below, before peeling off and tilting towards the mortar team. She was going to do something most unexpected and probably a little stupid. Soaring down towards Esh at subsonic velocity, she wouldn't slow down at all and slam into the ground like a meteorite. Her power armour couldn't soak that kind of force, but the body inside it was purely mechanical, and so had resiliance beyond a normal fleshling.

From there she'd mark targets and raise her neutron repulsors, firing off blasts at them and taking pot shots with her M115 to clear out the team before they could radio in her appearance. She didn't like the chances of a high explosive mortar shell, after all...

Horatio cares about any source of intelligence. But he wasn't IPG, so he just listened and remembered.

He nodded to the order after dismounting. He surveiled the terrain for the most optimal fire position with as wide a field of view as possible. Once he found it to the side of the hill, he kept his profile as low as he could as he moved towards.

He then carefully went into a prone position, making sure not to make sudden moves. As he waited for the "signal" to start suppressing the MG and AT positions, he went through all the ballistic trajectories possible and how the weather will affect them. M115 going to talk their ears off.

"Understood Egwene," Lt. Thorson responded.

The mortar teams are caught off guard by the power armor's sudden appearance. Two of the members are eliminated and their corpses flung back by the repulsor shots. A third catches a few rounds of M115 ammunition in his leg and does a sloppy spin onto the ground unconscious and bleeding out. The fourth manages to avoid most of the projectiles by diving prone and shouts into his communication bead, "Intrudack!"

His warning is cut off by a fatal round through his throat, but whoever was on the receiving end must have understood it because an alarm blared at the outpost and the occupants were now moving about at a more frantic pace. At the very least, the mortar teams were neutralized.

"That got their attention," Lt. Thorsan muttered before whispering a small curse.

The sniper pulled the trigger, and one of the AT gun operators facing the main force's position was knocked away after receiving a round in his torso that ended his life. The other two crew members scrambled to find cover and the sniper fired again, this second round finding purchase with one of their heads. If there was an opportune moment for Horatio to begin suppressing the enemy, this was it.

There was a good chance the plasma cannon tactical had moved since her flyover, but there was also a good chance that it had not, so that was something she was going to risk. Grabbing the mortar and spending the time to have her computer run trajectory calculation, she'd load it and fire, and then take off at a run back to Horatio and the main squad, keeping to the ground so the on alert AA didn't blow her away. The mortar was more something that'd work if it worked, but not something she had all her eggs in.

#Returning to the frontlines, I'll support you from there, Horatio# Egwene spoke through the comms as she made her run back.

Horatio waited patiently like a predator, partially laying on the berm he was using to keep the weapon rested. When he heard the very distinctive shot of the sniper rifle he was trained to use. He waited for a brief moment of confirmation before starting to contributing his portion of making the guns talk (suppressing with controlled bursts with other heavy weapons). He focused on the anti-tank guns, with love being sent to the MG crew every time they looked like they wanted to pop up their heads.

"I hear they have great health insurance over there. Help the F'ers collect!!"

The mortar round fired by Egwene detonated in front of the technical with the plasma turret. It faced a shockwave strong enough to lift it up by its front end and flip it onto its back. Two rebels were caught in the explosion and killed. The indirect fire caused the enemy occupants to become even more frantic. Other rebels loaded into the three surviving technicals and one of them began to roll toward the exit that was currently engaging with the Nepleslian forces.

Both the MG crew and the remaining AT gun operator kept hidden in cover as Horatio's machinegun kept them suppressed. The friendly sniper trained the crosshair of his scope on the AT crewman, and the lethal gunshot that followed left a bloody hole in his chest that resulted in the poor rebel lying on the ground facing upward with no life in his body. A few rebels made it to the entrance and attempted to assist their panicked comrades by shooting in the direction of the main attacking force hoping to get the pressure onto them rather than their fellow machinegun operators.

Lt. Thorson sees that the AT team that would threaten the MBTs had been eliminated and announced, "Anti-tank crew is down! Hector's Bus and Iron Shell move up and start picking targets! Platoons, advance on the outpost! Horatio, keep them suppressed, don't let those rebels get another crew on that AT gun!"

"That's our cue, get moving!" Gideon yelled out.

Blake rolled the tank over the hill, giving Sydney a full view of the outpost and its contents.

"Sydney! Destroy that technical!" Gideon ordered.

"Yes sir!" Sydney stated as he told Wallace, "Load HEPDP shell!"

In an efficient manner, Wallace inserted the shell into the loading chamber and Sydney utilized the targeting systems to lock onto the technical that was approaching the exit on their side.

"Firing!" Sydney yelled out before firing the cannon. The technical was obliterated in a ball of fire and an unlucky rebel that was running nearby was shredded and killed by the shrapnel from the explosion.

It was all going very nicely. With their AT gun and technical being blown away, it was a good chance the infantry would surrender rather than have to fight a pair of MBTs. Little use for Egwene now they were rolling into the fight, but she came up behind them anyway, having TONY focused on scanning the area for any anti-tank weaponry. When she wasn't flying, there was a lot of processing power that TONY could use on other things, which was always good for maintaining situational awareness.

She'd fire her M115s off her own back at anyone that popped up, but not being a real soldier, it was more of a spray of rounds than an actual tight grouping, something to keep their head down and get lucky more than anything.
