Approved Submission [Yamatai] Separa'Shan Interstellar Patrol

If they're for system defense, is Fuji-class, a long-range expeditionary gunship designed to survive long periods away from home, the right choice for them? Wouldn't the Chiaki or Plumeria 2E make more sense?

There are a few reasons I picked the Fuji, the main one being that I really like the design more than the Chiaki or Plumeria. However, there are other reasons as well. my plan for their own design is for it to be a large heavy gunship. That means the Fuji is more comparable than a Plumeria or a Chaki. Also, one of the roles I see them playing is in escorting convoys of other kinds of ships, where the longer range is an advantage. The Plumeria is an older design for being search and destroy and artillery that later proved useful in other roles. The Chiaki was at least designed for the role. However, I imagine that in the coast-guard-ish role, that the shuttle bay sees a lot of use. The Fuji has a larger shuttle bay. Cargo, also the Fuji. The Fuji also has more and better weapons. Chaki and Fuji also have similar crew compliments. ~100. In pretty much every way, the Fuji is a superior ship. It's also more comparable to the ship I'm imagining in my head that they eventually build than the Chiaki or Plumeria. I'm not going to say they don't use any, but those would be in the minority.

Perhaps the Ookami or Urufu classes would work? They seem like they might be a slightly better fit than purpose-built expeditionary ships, have similar or better shuttle and weapon capacities, with the only real drawback being a slower FTL speed, though you don't need to be super fast for escorting merchant shipping.

I wholly agree that the Fuji-class is inappropriate for the task of being a system monitor ship. It's a fancy yacht with three VIP/Admiral suites, all of which are furnished more nicely than the captain's quarters. It has "expeditionary" in the name and is made to undertake missions akin to the Enterprise in TNG. There is a reason that new Plumeria still outpace Fuji production in Star Army fleets: because the Fuji is a specialized ship while the Plumeria is a pure gunship. It is a big stretch to believe that the Star Army or KFY would produce any number of them for a system defense fleet.

Requesting older ships and Chiaki/Plumeria that haven't undergone the most recent refit and are still in the SAoY's inventory would make a heck of a lot more sense and fit what you're going for much better than Luxury Space Cruising aboard a fleet of Fujis that seem to outnumber what the Star Army even uses. There are only 110+ Fuji-class even in service to the Star Army right now (50 in the Third Fleet and 10 in the 1XF with 50 more planned, with the Kaiyo II, Wyvern, and other assorted ships not listed on any fleet pages) according to the wiki!

Got to agree as the creator of the Fuji-class. They have 5 mission specializations and none of them include defense. They are also only sometimes seen in larger formations than squadrons/alone. If you could find another ship, that would make more sense. Alex provided some good ones.

Alex, thanks for looking up those ships for me. However, at the end of the day, I respectfully point to the number one reason I mentioned. Rule of Cool. I like it better than I like the Urufu/Ookami I don't feel that the other ships offer a significantly better improvement to warrant changing it. In any case, they are a placeholder until I finally get around to writing up the even more awesome ship I have in mind for them.

I hate to see this submission in deadlock because most of us think it's the wrong ship for the job.

My suggestion is to simply remove the ships from the submission, we approve the submission, and then you use in-character ways to request/buy/acquire some ships like asking the Star Army to donate old ones or offering KFY money for new ones like the Fuji.

It looks like this submission was moved to the rejected/abandoned forum for a lack of response. Did you still want to move forward with this submission?

Yes, because of the upheavel due to everyone not wanting the main ship to be a ship I liked I've got to find the right inspiration and everything to actually make the ship that it was a placeholder for.

Okay, I'll move this back to the submissions forum!

I think you should get the organization approved without ships, and then we can work on adding ships later. Then it can start with some older ships like Kyotos and stuff that it can bum off the Star Army through roleplay, perhaps with a small number of Fujis as well. Origin Industries and Geshrinari Shipyards are also wonderful sources of ships too if you don't want to spend too much time making unique Separa'shan ships. Or you could custom order new ship designs from them as well since Essia doesn't have shipyards that I know of.

You could also use some Misha 1B if you wanted too from Yugumo, since they too are a Yamataian Corp!

I've updated the line in question to "Their Warships are a mixed bag from Yamatai and their trade partners. "
