RP Location
YSS Yume No Sensha, (NL-X2-64, Courier 2B Star Army Freighter), Grid Reference 0409, Kikyo Sector South-West.
A tremendous bang-pop sound was heard throughout the small three-decked transport, accompanied by a devastating vibration that twisted guts and rattled teeth. At the very brink of hitting the calm vibration that hyperspace provided, the ship instead violently jerked forwards, spinning around on its axis, and throwing the occupants around like a carnival ride.

The gravity plating was not functioning. All of the interior lighting to surged in brightness, then suddenly died down into nothing. Some of the bulkheads closed, whilst others made a painfully loud shriek before freezing half-way closed. The MEGAMI computer was not putting out any warning messages or damage reports whatsoever. Command was deathly silent.

No alarms. Nothing.

Why had this happened now? The Yume No Sensha was merely a transport vessel, one of five on the way back from the Daichi System to the outpost on Kazumi… One of many acting as a special materials logistics transport to the second expeditionary fleet...

So, was this an attack, or a mere accident?

No windows on the vessel like this, but those in the bow and the stern could feel that they were still moving, spinning around at an intense velocity… Could the rest of the wing even find them, if they were out of control like this?

It would be best to act quickly and ask questions later, before the situation went from bad to worse.

OOC: This is 'demo' prelude for YSS Komainu players, whilst we wait for some more character submissions. Player characters can start in either their lounge or a bedroom on the second deck. It’s up to you if they were merely being transported, or if they were officially assigned to this ship as crew. Figure out what is going on and avoid death!

Aphrodi groaned as she got up off the floor "What the actual hell what that?" She checked that her bags were okay and checked her limbs to make sure nothing was hurt too badly so she could check what was going on and yell at some people. She was not expecting that being transported would be this rough, but she has been through rougher in her life.

She goes into her bag and pulled out her pistol for a just in case of emergency scenario. After she made sure she had what she needed, she left her room and had planned to go straight to the bridge to complain about it. As she headed to the bridge she saw people rushing around, this made her keep a hand on her pistol not liking the look of this whole situation.

Shi Fumetsu had just been reassigned, not even a day later she was tossed aboard with what little items she carried and sent off. Now that her transport was seemingly being attacked or at least put through a spin cycle wash her mood only worsened. Lucky for her the ghostly pale neko was quick with reflexes and managed to float herself in the centre of the bedroom as the ship span.

When it finally came to, a slightly less spinning, spin. Shi planted her feet back down on the floor and poked her head out of the door, no one in sight. The medic didn’t have any weapons on her but that was irrelevant, her body was a weapon after all and could tear any creature apart. With the speed and urgency of a tortoise the blue haired ghost moved slowly towards the connection from her deck to the rest of the ship. Since the lifts were probably out Shi went straight for the stairs, on her journey Shi caught sight of someone else with a pistol rushing too the bridge, they could probably deal with that themselves...

With that justification in mind the ghost travelled onwards to the medbay of the ship, she may not be working but there was no doubt going to be injured people that needed saving, one way or another.

Aphrodi

Bumping into at least two panic-stricken yellowshirts, the dark purpple nekovalkyrja found out that the elevators to the top deck were not working. Still, there wasn't much stopping them from climbing up the shaft and reaching the upper main corridor regardless, it didn't seem like the doors had any magnetic restraints on them.

Outside the bridge however, there was a considerably heavier bulkhead blocking the way. Looked several inches thick and probably quite a bit harder to move manually.

"It's pressure triggered. I think the bridge was hit by something, and spaced..." A voice from behind them. It was a woman in a blue AMES suit, sitting with her back to the airlock doors. The tone suggested someone in shock, or just generally disconnected from reality. "...If the computer isn't responding either, then... Did it get hit too?... This must have been an attack... It completely drilled right through the ship, at exactly the right spot..."

Fumetsu

The pale white medic was not spared any of the gory details. She could feel at full force how hot the AI room had gotten through the sealed bulkhead door. The next room was the infirmary, where the bulkhead they encountered was intended to be sealed, but had jammed upon it's rails half way.

Heat and smell hit them as solidly as any physical force. There were multiple large exit wounds in the ceiling, angled so they they lined up with several blazing gaps in the aft wall neighbouring the computer room. The doctor was present but clearly had already passed away, impacted by a dozen superheated fragments of various tool and medical supplies. The plastic coating on the surgical bed was already melted down to the consistency of cling film, pouring over the sides in viscous waves to form multicoloured stalagmites.

The small room didn't even have hemosynth tubes like a larger starship, so surely there wasn't much of use here now...

Lounge

Last she had checked, Jinako had been failing to enjoy the some cinema these cats considered entertainment and had dozed off from sheer boredom. And yet somehow she had found herself face first in the viewscreen with it now laying ontop of her!

With a headache that was at least more tame than her usual hangover she extracted herself from her media mishap and took stock of her situation. She was no voidsman but could at least tell that something was amiss as the interior lights struggled and distant shouting from some of the ships hands was a clear indication that the ship was dead, dying, or in some form of deaththrows as the uneasy feeling in her stomach forced her to stumble back towards the sofa she had occupied to throw herself down on while she took stock.

Her head hurt, a lot. And friction from drag had smarted her slightly where the tight fitting cat uniform showed skin. But she was alive and nothing seemed to be impailed in her or protruding from her unnaturally at least which was a plus going for her.

Shaking some sense and drive into her movements she struggled towards the wardroom to cross into the kitchen. If this was an attack she would need a weapon of some kind. The cats didnt have tertiary armories or lockers like a good nepleslian ship would, But the kitchen at least had knives and wasnt a clearing priority for boarding.

She knew this because once upon a time she had been part of a boarding or two of freighters not unlike the Sensha. Depending on where they cut in the priorities where allways to first go for:

The bridge
The armories
Engines
Or communications.

The AI core however was close and a target. And maybe on the way she could score some drugs from the infirmary in the panic...

Jinako

On the way past the infirmary, all the blue Nekovalkyrja really managed to observe was a fearsome blaze going on inside. There was a much paler medic who had just got there, but it didn't seem like anything helpful was going to be finished anytime soon. She could smell the medical supplies burning from all the way down the corridor. It was chaos.

The AI room, on the other hand, was closed off with bulkheads that were not budging at all. There was some kind of automatic lockdown in effect, probably pressure seal related. The metal was quite hot to the touch, but... Hold on, wasn't the fire suppression system supposed to be going off?...

Situation left them with two major choices, really. The deck above had all the command equipment, and likely most of the ongoing problems. The deck below, on the other hand, was a cargo storage space that ran most of the length of the ship... And that stuff couldn't all be on fire, right?...

Aphrodi groaned when she heard the person speak before she turned around to shout at the woman in blue "Hey you, listen to me, I can help get you somewhere safer as long as you quit it with all the noise." She went over and pulled the woman up, she was annoyed and last thing she wanted was hysterical people screaming while she thought of something. She groans "Are all the computers, or just the MEGAMI, if you know of a working terminal somewhere, I can try to rig something up to send a call to another ship." She looked at the woman "So pause and think clearly now, I need you and you need me, we can do this."

"Huh"

Could have sworn there was a medbay here before, the highly sarcastic and somewhat morbid thoughts of Shi Fumetsu brought up a very forced, singular chuckle.

The medic span on her heel and headed in the opposite direction, snatching up a discarded first aid kit which somehow avoided meltification on her way out. Sure she couldn't treat anything more than scrapes and bruises like this but hey she always had her scalpels to accomplish the first half of her name. Shi, meaning death, and Fumetsu meaning undying, her entire existence was just a huge cosmic joke that she often chose to ignore. However the double meaning served to earn her the current title of Doctor Death among some, known for her unflinching choice to end the lives of many who would otherwise slow down treatment of others or who were too far gone to bother treating, in her defense she justified the death as being more of a rebirth given the constant access to soul transfer technology.

With her own personal thoughts out the way the ghostly neko continued moping towards the bridge, kind of, it was more of an aimless amble waiting for something interesting to happen, or an excuse to perform 'self-surgery'.

Infirmary

A single tear was shed only to be consumed by the heat at the clear waste of some of the sectors finest drugs. Her mouth opened ever so slightly to address the other sole occupant of the infirmary when they sped off in the opposite direction. Crazy bitch was actually looking for trouble it seemed. She'd be dead in a few minutes if it was a bording the bloody and blue neko mutant mused.

And then the little voice in the back of Jinakos head offered its usual guidance in reminding her about the cargo hold! It was usually right, And the cargo hold was a good way to span the length of the ship to get around locked bulkheads while also a ready supply of unguarded loot she could maybe pilfer under the guise of requisition of defense utilities.

Yeah that would work.
She mused to herself and turned on her heel towards the nearest hatch leading to the deck below and the opportunities it held...

Sacre for her part had been sleeping on the ship that was taking her away from her beloved Kaiyo. There was a constant depression that had been surrounding the Separa'Shan medic. Her waking hours were mostly spent either writing love notes to Gravity, or mindlessly carving away at a knife handle. Just coming off a combat deployment, she grabbed for the knife she wore beneath her breasts, expecting the familiar feel of Vera. However, it was a different knife, her W3703, a excellent combat knife, but not Vera. Ophion, her robot dragon was awake. She didn't know what was happening, but she would be damned if she didn't do something about it. "Stay here, guard our stuff while I'm gone." She told it as she went out the door and began making her way towards the infirmary where she could do the most good.

Along her wandering path Shi spied the Separa’shan approaching her, possibly another medic? Either that or there was something else back the way she came that she didn’t know about. The pale neko’s eyes remained locked onto the other figure but she made no move to intercept her, the medkit was still swinging in her left hand as the right fidgeted with her coat.

Perhaps no one would notice if someone went missing? She could easily say the cuts were from attempting to save her from her injuries, the fidgety hand nearing one of her modified scalpels.

No, too risky, she could try to save this one another time, if the bridge was still functioning then people would know, they’d figure it out.

Aphrodi & Fumetsu

What the macabre medic found on the way to the bridge was a very large, very sealed bulkhead, and quite a lot of panic. Directly outside, there stood a violet nekovalkyrja in a red engineers uniform, in the mist of berating a paniced woman in an AMES space suit.

The woman looked up and down at the purple-skinned engineer for a moment, listening to their words closely, and then forcing out a series of deep breaths. Clearly a civillian, but they were smart enough to put a space suit on whilst everything was going to heck, at least...

"M-M-My name is Michiru Ise. I'm an AI and robotics specialist." They finally blurted out. Perhaps trying they felt like humanising themselves past the black glossy suit helmet would make Aphrodi take them more seriously. "I have no idea, but I think the computers were all in the same room... This is just a retrofitted civillian ship! It's n-not supposed to be in situations like this!"

Grabbing their helmet now, and looking at the floor. That calm tone did not last very long. Maybe it was because of the angular and pale medic now rapidly walking up to them.

"W-w-wait, you're an engineer, right? I do need your help!" A sudden realisation emerged regardless, causing them to point around the corner, past the large central airlock room. "I don't have access to engineering, but maybe you do? Do y-you know how t-to get into main engineering?"

Sacre

Other than a very aggressive looking blue nekovalkyrja walking the other way, what was immediately obvious to the separa'shan was an intense heat and billowing smoke coming from that end of the corridor. Large, curling orange flames leapt from the half-open bulkhead that should have lead to the medical bay. All of the lights were malfunctioning and the automatic fire containment system was obviously not working, either.

Suddenly, they were shoved out of the way!- Not an aggressor, but actually two AMES-wearing crew members with handheld fire extinguishers. They desperately sprayed at the out of control blaze, fighting to bring it down with long, concentrated effort...

Jinako

Unsurprisingly, it did not seem like the elevators were working. The doors were easy enough to open though, as the mag-locks had also failed. They could reach the lift cab below, simply by flying down, as definitely not a certain feline bio-weapon certain powerful and unique mutants were akin to. Getting through the ceiling hatch was also not too much of a problem...

But then, they got to the actual cargo storage bay.

Good news was the foreign object had indeed not penetrated down this far, and there was no heat or fire to be detected.

Bad news was... Too much damn cargo!

A stack of corrugated red-metal oblong containers blocked their view from directly inside the elevator doorway. They were individually massive, each about three standard car-lengths and double the size of a person in height. Turning the corner, they realised that there was was a full row of seven containers, stacked six high each, stacked directly wall-to-wall... Before a sharp container-wall blocked the blue neko's view, presumably of even more of the damn things.

It might have been a converted civilian ship, but the bowels of it were absolutely immense!

Sacre ducked her tall length under the smoke and kept moving past the infirmary and towards the wardroom's kitchen. If it wasn't on fire, then she would be able to set up a makeshift infirmary there. She could use the tablecloths as bandages and heating elements for sterilization. As well as water for washing with. If it was on fire, there would be an extinguisher for her to use and fight the fire. She would hopefully be able to stop the injured from dieing for long enough for the fire in the infirmary to be put out. If they were lucky, there would be enough useful tools leftover. If not, Sacre would have to go searching the cargobay for her medical tailpack. She didn't know how long that would take, and people were probably hurt now.

Cargo

"Balls"
Jinako cursed. Uttering the word in a deep-set gravelly voice most death metal singers would envy. Most nepleslian ships used the tried and true old wooden crate method of transport if the buyers couldn't afford coregated containers or hard-boxes with actual digital locks.

And knowing her luck, Jinako would likely find half of these things filled with those stupid sneakersor booty shorts or skimpy slut-wear stamped every inch with the star armies icon like it was never an eyesore that just looked like a big red bulls-eye on anything you wore.

Or spare parts. hopefully not spare parts...

She digressed and continued on however, Checking manifests as she went looking for anything particularly useful or valuable or just worth pocketing that might be worth using this rare moment of possible death to break into one of the crates. If not she could simply continue on the keel of the ship to the other side through the cargo spaces and use it as an excuse that she was simply trying to cross the ship to the bridge without having to trudge through the burning bays.

Bridge

"Mmm, so what's happening here then?" Shi asked almost tiredly as she reached the other two people and pushed her hands into her coat pockets, hiding the medpack within the long flowing folds of her white lab coat, offering an indifferent stare at the other two.

Within her pockets one hand gently ran a finger along the blade of a scalpel hidden within, she was no psycho murderer but if she had the chance to examine new and different species she absolutely would, sadly it seemed these two were yamatain and not at all interesting. "Mmm, trying to get into engineering? Well that can't be as boring as having no medical lab."

Bridge

Aphrodi looked at the woman, she had kind of realized that they were a civilian and sighed a little "Okay then Michiru, let's see if I can, if not I am finding a pole and breaking into engineering the fun way." She smirked and turned down to engineering, then paused when she saw the lab coat wearing guest "Ah someone else, this is just great, babysitting two people no instead of one." She grumbled and then signed "Yea you can join the definitely dead team as we try and get through this ship" she turned back to the scared civilian and then looked around the ship "I actually have no idea where engineering is on this ship, I don't use civilian ships that much."

The slightest of twitches came from one of her elven ears. Dull, heterochromatic eyes drifted over to one of the containers before she re-focussed on the screen again. Velvet gloved hand typing as she browsed through the manifest, much akin to Jinako. "I wouldn't do that if I were you," she warned with warm and honeyed words. "Or, please do," she turned her head to stare down the corner the Neko would cross and finally come in view of her. "So I can take you in, get you reported and probably get a small bonus." She added with a shrug, before heaving a tired sigh as she found what she was looking for. Or something that'd help, at least. Jinako could make out security footage of the cameras around the ship right after the manifest was closed - in turn this footage was also shutdown and the terminal was locked once again as Carthage grabbed a boltcutter she had collected earlier. Paying no mind to Jinako thus far. She had far better things to do than to deal with kleptomania.

Clunk.

So came down the first padlock. Breathing apparati, but no oxygen tanks. A good start, if anything, she just needed a suit and a tank and she could just let this ship go down. But, at least oxygen was found in the medbay, which was very much on fire. Taking a set, as well as thick combat goggles she'd found, the elf sauntered over to another container, before opening it once more. Halting to look at Jinako, before snickering and continuing on her scavenging run. Pulling out a large medical pack and tying it around her waist.

A low groan of returning consciousness reverberated up from the floor of one cabin, specifically a cabin that had been situated towards the rear of the ship, as far back as Kage could have gotten without raising too much of a stink - she was never a fully ordained samurai and she was a failure of a disciple at that, of course they would never understand, but the white-eyed cat was willing to compromise.

A few moments were taken for her to gather her bearings and confirm there was no immediate danger before dropping her layer of volumetric camouflage, it was a defense mechanism, even in a state of lost consciousness the brain continued to function at a basic level - Kage had been taught from an early age how to use that most basic of functions to take a snapshot of her environment and then project that before her head hit the ground, of course if things went according to plan then this technique was never needed but she knew all too well how quickly things could go sideways.

Dressed in little more than a short shower yukata, some standard underwear and a Sarashi over her modest chest the mocha-skinned, snow-haired NH-33 gracefully pushed herself into a kneeling position - taking a few deep breaths and resisting the urge to touch that dull stinging sensation at the back of her head, she was about to scan her body's damage report when the aggressor became apparent - the base of the vaporizer unit that had been pushing the gentle scent of rosewood-scented mist into the air was now bloodied, the size and shape of the hemosynthetic stain matching up with the gash beneath Kage's white hair, leading to her letting out a gentle breath as the small device was placed back onto the footlocker she'd been using as a tabletop during meditation.

Her elven ears were picking up damaged systems, frantic footsteps and panicked voices, the scent of smoke wafting to Kage's button-nose only helped confirm her suspicions, something was very wrong - she'd barely had time to set her belongings down let alone unpack but the mocha-skinned cat always traveled light, if you can't grab it on your way out of a tough situation then it's something you can live without, wise words that had stuck with her ever since birth.

Moving calmly though with haste, she retrieved her NSP along with two short Kodachi-styled blades from her footlocker and the navy Uwa-obi that went along with them, pulling the yukata off her shoulders and then binding both sheathed blades to the small of her back with practiced technique though truth be told it was mostly muscle memory that guided her actions - she was just going through the motions, there was no need to panic even in a dire situation, if you panic then mistakes are made and mistakes eventually lead to death.

With the yukata covering her lower body and the blades secured above her hips, Kage finally moved to exit the cabin, faintly athletic legs gracefully planting one foot before the other as her head was poked out the doorway - a moment of contemplation that lead to Kage snaking her way towards the front of the ship, dodging a few hurried personnel, while maybe not sprinting her silent footfalls were still purposeful and her hand mind-numbingly swift as it reached out to grab at the forearm of an engineer, iron grip halting the lanky blue-haired Minkan in his tracks.

"Status report~" Kage requested, her voice a cold whisper that was somehow heard above the commotion, acting as if she hadn't just demanded something of an engineer who slightly outranked herself, face a stoic expression of stone and every bit of the Santo-hei's body language expressing that she knew what she was doing - ranks were for social events and when order was established, not this current maelstrom of chaos and destruction.

Outside Engineering (Aphrodi & Fumetsu)

"It's.. over... there?..." Michuru spoke to themselves, looking into open space and making a confused noise. They were probably downloading a digital map from somewhere, directly into their head. Without turning the helmet, a finger pointed at the large pair of doors just around the corner, past the airlock... "Well that was... easy?..."

The red striped paint markings, corresponding to Aphrodi's uniform, did indeed lead to the largest and most impressive sealed bulkheads they had seen yet. The computer being down meant that the holographic signs were all down, sputtering out pulses of seizure-inducing white light randomly. But the heavy metal doors would have been familiar to the engineer themselves; They only put that kind of inward armour on parts of the ship that might, say, randomly explode the vessel into two giant smouldering chunks.

Three options here; The keypad had a screwed-on panel for possible direct interface. The hyradullics being on this side of the door also made them pretty vulnerable to busting open. Thirdly, the emergency vent on the ceiling above them... Might just be big enough for somebody to slip inside?...

Fumetsu had plenty of time to observe Michuru's strange tics, bundling their hands in order to disguise the fact they were shaking with fear and discomfort. Definitely not star army personnel. The black featureless dome of their helmet suggested they were definitely just waiting for things to get worse...

Corridor Between The Medbay And The Kitchen (Sacre)

The galley was not ablaze or really damaged in any way, past a few disarranged tablecloths and fallen utensils. It had pretty boring white tiles, with a slightly more odd turquoise upholstery for the counter and furniture. The smoke coming in from the other room, however, was very dense. It was rapidly building up in a caustic black fog along the ceiling, backlit by the still operational dinning room lights. Staff was entirely vacant, probably because the ventilation wasn't making a sound, and the hideous gas cloud wasn't going anywhere in such an enclosed space...

Upon the food counter there was a fine selection of (now smokey flavoured) sweet meats and celery. The command console visible behind that was just flickering out white lasers randomly, the sign of a holographic display with no input. Next to that, a smaller blue fire extinguisher, the kind used on pan fires. The entrance to the food storage area basically just looked like a very large fridge door, laid into the wall.

To their left, the two AMES suited engineers were actually inside the room now, suggesting they were slowly making progress. One of the yellow-shirted galley cooks actually turned up, ferrying two fresh fire extinguishers outside the door.

Cargo Bay (Jinako & Carthage)

The goods being transported weren't exactly locked up like a bank's vault or anything, it was actually highly disorganised and rather hodge-podge in arrangement... This was a small transport ship in protected space that was supposed to have supporting escort vessels, after all. Jinako came across a second registry dataslate hanging from a support girder rather quickly, and so felt the same annoyance and disappointment as Carthage each and every time.

'Container 016; Mobile Armour' contained a pair of Type 30 Tankettes... with no way of getting them out of the container, which was on the third row up.

'Container 025; Armour Components' contained at least two dozen Mindy II and Daisy helmets, even one full suit... All marked defective, and being sent somewhere that could reconstitute Zesuaium.

'Container 36; Metallic Refuse' was not a code word for a secret project. It contained metal shavings and literal garbage.

The was not a war ship. Almost nothing was designed to be deployed right out of the box, and quite a lot was sloppily stored and recorded.

Future interesting container entries were marked;
-Container 42; Contraband Materials -DO NOT OPEN-.
-Container 50; Combat Apparel.
-Container 63; Power Armour Components.
-Container 65; Non-humanoid portable Ordnance.
-Container 73; Power Armour Components B.
-Container 93; Personal Heavy Materials A.
-Container 102; [Unnamed].
-Container 111; Heavy Medical Unit -Storage Mode 04-.
-Container 121; Personal Heavy Materials B -DO NOT UTILISE WITHOUT ENGINEERING ASSISTANCE-.

Corridor Outside Personnel Cabins (Kage)

The engineer jumped in shock upon being grabbed, not least because the one who was doing it seemed to be a ghost-haired apparition complete with old timey clothes.

"I-I-I'm just reporting back from the fire!" The man had a heavy nepleslian accent, and seemed to assume that the shorter dark-skinned neko was an officer for several seconds too long. "The third AMES suit from the damage control unit is missing, somebody already took it! I'm going to get my own!"

Quite visible with their abhuman eyesight, Kage could see the source of the orange flickering at the other end of the extremely long, straight corridor; There was indeed a rolling inferno somewhere near the medbay or computer room, but the automatic fire extinguishers were not going off... Heck, the alarms still weren't... At least two crew members were trying to fight it with handheld apparatus.

"Erm, something hit us! We got a proximity d-ding right before hyperspace and now the m-m-m-Megami is fucked!" The man seemed to grasp the situation just a little better, finally figuring out she wasn't accusing him of anything. "No contact with the bridge! They locked down engineering in case of hostiles! N-nobody knows what is going on!... Do you think it's an attack!?... Oh good turding shit it's not the squids, is it!?..."

"F-f-fire extinguishers! The air filtration system isn't working! We n-need f-f-fire extinguishers!"

Fumetsu

As a medical professional and borderline psychopath Shi had indeed noticed the habits of their apparent guide. Taking especially good notice of how the other woman seemed to twitch and shake despite their immortality. "Mmmmm. You're not doing so good there are you?" She half whispered at the technician, her voice slow and deliberate like a snake. The ghostly pale medic seemed to swoop forwards across the floor until she was mere millimetres from the other creature. "You fear death mmm? Yet you shouldn't, it is only an inconvenience at best for us. And quite an experience at that." The medic chuckled and stepped back, wrapping her arms around her body slowly and hugging herself tightly and continuing her laughter softly.
