Reserved, patient, and calm to an almost supernatural degree, but dedicated to his work and refining his skills Alfred tends to blend into the background of most social situations usually preferring to read mostly technical manuals. When interacting with others either on or off duty he is polite but distant and tries not to take anything personally no matter the circumstances.

Alfred Buscema was born in YE 17, the youngest son of John and Yue Buscema, he has two older sisters and an older brother. His father was an auditor for the Department of Finance and the family moved often because of work having lived on several different planets by the time Alfred was sixteen. It was during this time that Alfred's interest in the starships grew, having been nurtured by his mother who took her son often to museums and other public exhibits. His family would also purchase Alfred technical manuals feed his passion for the subject, though he would become so engrossed with this passion it would cause issues with school and lower than average grades.

Realizing that the best place to take advantage of their son's love for starships Alfred's convinced him to attend the Ketsurui Academy while by this time the rest of his siblings had joined either Star Army of Yamatai or other departments in the Yamatai Star Empire government. In YE 34 at the age of seventeen enrolled in the Academy after taking a year to convince the enrollment committee to allow him in despite his less than stellar academic record. While there Alfred was able to obtain high marks in his studies and graduated in the top sixth of his class after completing a four year program. Deciding that he wanted apply his skills in a practical manner and wanting to serve his nation Alfred joined Star Army of Yamatai in YE 38 shortly after the Kuvexian War began, his military career was relatively quiet until he requested assignment on the YSS Kanagawa.
