A tall girl, Sam just about reaches six foot tall. Her figure is toned and muscular, though not in the bodybuilding style, those muscles are for work not show. Adding to her quirky result of the genetic lottery she has a bust just large enough to occasionally be a problem fitting into power armor.
Her skin has a dusky tone to it, hair a rather dull shade of brown normally worn in a messy mop of a style that's kept trimmed short enough to keep it out of the way. Her face has the firm cheeks of a face that tells of a harsh upbringing. Her eyes are quite obviously cybernetic replacements, deliberately styled to not hide their artificial nature, the ceramic white orbs sitting between interface points on either of her temples. The lighter tone of her skin around her eyes betraying her preference for some kind of integrated visor/goggles.
There is a stylized solid black colored spider leg tattoo at the base of her neck, and a closer inspection of her limbs reveals a myriad of small scars, consistent with human on human street fighting.
Sam likes to live in the now. The history isn't so important and the future is a trip waiting to happen (if you're lucky enough to go there), so she tends towards overindulging in the present. Be it one more bottle of booze, one more round in the ring or one more chapter in her book on electronics, she gives it her all like there's not going to be another chance.
While easy to provoke, she tends not to hold a grudge and as her impressive (even for a Nepleslian) knowledge of electronics and engineering shows she's not the mindless brawler it would be easy to dismiss her (and as she often cultivates the impression of herself) as. Often enough someone has provoked her for a quick win in the gym, only to find their locker 'accidentally' opens too quickly and slams into their face a day or two later.
Fear, doubt and other weaknesses are things she does her best not to show, happily strolling up to strangers in a bar or dropping into combat with the same grin and cheer she always tries to have. yet she struggles with forging long term connections to people, as though worried she'll turn around and they'll be gone one day.
Samantha grew up in the criminal underbelly of the vast urban sprawl of Nepleslia. Even she's unclear on exactly who her parents were, and it ultimately didn't matter to her, the street gang 'The Spiders' were her family and she'd fight for them as they would fight for her.
Not that she did much fighting until her teenage years, as a younger child she primarily used her small nimble fingers to help work on the weapons, vehicles and other electronics that that gang got their hands on. This sparked a life long interest, and some would say obsession, with learning how everything worked. Machines were fascinating, predictable, could be fixed, broken and modified, while the street gangs were… much less predictable.
As she approached coming of age, and her physique matured into the more impressive state she reflects now she found her second great love: Fighting. And she was pretty good at it too! It was ultimately secondary for her though, a means to an end so she could get her hands on more engineering files to devour, more funds to get gear, implants and so on.
After having the few blocks of the sprawl that she had called home for as long as she could remember finally start to reach the limits of what they could provide her, Sam ditched the spiders and signed on with the Marines. The universe is even bigger (and stranger) than she could possibly have imagined, and she's well aware she knows far too little, but now she's out there to see it all!
Communications - While already amply experienced with the various ways of communicating in a firefight before she signed up, Samantha naturally received all the extra training, and agreed upon lexicon, that any modern soldier is expected to undergo. She particularly enjoyed getting hands on with all the new fantastic comms gear, but was less thrilled with the orthodoxy of spelling.
Fighting - As much a talent, or perhaps even hobby, as a skill Sam excelled when it came to the combat portions of troop training, augmenting standard procedure and style with reflexes honed fighting for survival from a young age. She knows how, and is perfectly willing, to fight dirty, using any advantage available, along with as many weapons as she can get her hands on. The important part is you walking away while the other person doesn't.
Physical - While she's not the fastest solider, or quite the strongest, Sam does have one important edge: Endurance. She's capable of just keeping going where many others would long since have passed out, letting her win via simply outlasting an opponent if she has no other advantage. Having spent almost her entire life on the same planet, she does sometimes have a little trouble with differing gravity levels.
Survival - How to survive in a city is something she needed no training in, but when it came to the stunning array of hostile and wild environments out in the wider universe Sam found out just how much she had to learn. As such she's got the average by the book knowledge of how to survive that one would expect from any soldier.
Engineering - Her passion and reason for finally leaving the nest, while Sam's education in Engineering is… somewhat unconventional, she has a wide range of knowledge that covers the entire field, even if it's in a rather eclectic fashion. Her specialty is in producing non-standard solutions with limited resources. What she designs won't look pretty, but it'll do it's job. It might fall apart afterwards, but that's tomorrows problem.
Maintenance and Repair - The flipside of the above, knowledge of how to put things together comes with knowledge of how to fix something else that's not working quite how it should. Just make sure you have the extended warranty if you come to her wanting a quick or battlefield fix.
Rogue - You don't grow up in a gang without picking up the tricks of the trade. Notorious when it comes to card games in the mess, Samantha isn't about to let the rest of her skills go to waste, but outside of the occasional prank she's not found much application for these all that frequently yet.

“The Spiders” - A mid-weight street gang from the urban sprawls on Nepleslia. The exact number and make up are ever changing, but if you know where to look you can always find them. And while Sam;s departure wasn't exactly something fully approved of, it was hard to argue with her. They'd be more than happy to welcome her back, but she's more worried about being asked favours if she talks to them too much
