Build and Skin Colour: Deacon is built solidly for one of his breed and species. His pelt is an dark tawny color, with darker shades over his back and spots along his shoulders and the side of his stomach. He is not overly muscled, but there is little fat on his wide body.

Facial Features and Eye Colour: Eyes were replaced with cybernetics when he joined the military to remedy the onset of blindness from detaching retinas. Facial features are normal for a hyena, short stocky muzzle, powerful jaw muscles, and yellowed carnivores teeth.

Hair Colour and Style: Deacon's hair is a short black mohawk that starts just in front of his ears, and goes all the way down the back of his neck before tapering off into his brown pelt.

Distinguishing Features: Distinguishing features of Deacon, other than the fact that he is an anthropomorphic hyena are a bald area on his left forearm with a scar going from elbow to wrist, and a slight hump between his shoulders, causing him to slouch forward a little bit.

Personality: This Kohanian's personality is actually very near that of the old Nepleslians. He is very aloof, loving nothing more than some hard liquor and a hot bitch to spend the evening with. He was a mercenary on Neo Kohana, so he also has a love for accumulating wealth. He is very sensitive about people making comments about his being the first Kohanian to leave the planet and join the military. On Kohana, he is seen as a traitor, off Kohana, he is seen as a giant puppydog, and he's killed for it in the past.

Likes: Money, Liquor, Kohanian Cigars and Tobacco, the ladies. Dislikes: Being thought of as a puppydog, chauvanists. Goals: To become the first, and most wealthy, Kohanian soldier in the Nepleslian armed forces.

Deacon is familiar with basic radio operation and procedures and can make transmissions to and receive transmissions from other characters through headsets, ships, ground vehicles, power armor, and shuttles in both combat and non-combat conditions. Also, he is fluent in Nepleslian and all four Kohanian dialects. He can speak and write it correctly and efficiently and can write reports, fill forms, issue orders under fire, etc. He is skilled in field communications and is proficient in all rudimentary forms of communication (hand signals, flashing lights, etc).

Deacon has received intensive hand-to-hand combat training (primarily focused on disabling and/or killing opponents) and has followed up that knowledge with a rigorous training program. Weapons he is trained in include pistols of all types, all bladed melee weaponry, Blunt weapons (Like hammers and maces, grenades (and other forms of explosive weaponry) and rifles of all kinds. Deacon can repair weaponry with adequate tools and slightly longer time than his Nepleslian counterparts, due to thicker, less articulated fingers. Growing up in the forests of Kohana, Deacon is in excellent physical shape and has considerable endurance. He is also able to pilot land-based power armors, but must rely on the suit’s A.I. to do anything advanced.

Deacon has extensive knowledge of how to survive in hostile environments. He can build shelters, hunt and forage for food, build a fire, etc. As part of his coming of age ritual, he had to show knowledge of how to camouflage himself, and is familiar with guerrilla warfare tactics. Having grown up during the primal period of Kohana's development, Deacon was taught how to use his senses to track down people and prey. From this he has gained the ability to track by sound and scent, and thanks to his cybernetic eyes, his ability to track by sight has been increased.

Deacon has learned to understand and give out tactical commands and work with his troop to follow those commands efficiently. He knows the importance of teamwork on the battlefield, has been intensively trained in discipline and morale, and is able to recognize the command structure even while under extreme pressure (combat, etc). Also, Deacon is able to recognize ambush points, knows basic math in order to calculate distances, etc, and can use a tactical map.

As a sort of hobby to keep his mind busy, Deacon has learned to identify, manufacture, handle and dispose of explosives. With the proper tools, he can detect and disarm enemy explosives as well.

Deacon has studied at the temple how to use plants and other homeopathic remedies to cure wounds or ease an upset stomach. Also, he is slowly learning how to use the more advanced methods of Nepleslia to reattach limbs, and implant and calibrate cybernetics. While not skilled enough to be medical staff on a starship, he possesses enough skill to patch his team up should they get into a firefight.

Another of Deacon's hobbies was to study with at his local temple in how to play various instruments. His favorites, and those he is most proficient with are the pan flute, and the violin.

Deacon loved a good fight ever since he was just a pup, being born in a litter of three brothers (2 older, 1 younger), and 2 sisters (Both younger). Growing up he always was trying to prove himself bigger and badder than his older siblings, and coming to the defense of his youngers. This led him into the path of a warrior, and as soon as he passed his coming of age rites, he was sent to live amongst the To'Yaree. He trained long and hard with them, learning the ways of the hunter, as well as the warrior, for some times you must stalk your prey, not just run at it with sword drawn. When the Great Sundering occured, and the temple he had once studied in was destroyed by the heavens, and then the war started, Autumn's Blazing Wind, Deacon's true name, was forced to fight against those he had never had quarrel with before.

Seeing his unwillingness to kill the humans who rose up against them, his leaders sent him to consult with the Avatar, who told Deacon of a very important mission, he would be sent with the majority of the population to seek refuge among another tribe of the Furless Ones, called “Nepleslians”. The freighter came that evening, and took most of the Kohanians with it, ensuring that the race would at least survive the war, if in greatly dwindled numbers.

Most of the refugees were dropped off on the KSS Imhotep, a star fortress in orbit over the planet, but with the finding that Night Watches Over, the Hand of the Avatar, was among the refugees, Deacon took the opportunity to remain with the crew of the freighter, who were bound for their home planet of Nepleslia. In return for passage, Deacon became a security sentry and cargo watchdog, being taught how to use Nepleslian weaponry, as well as speaking the language.

Once they made their stop on Nepleslia, Deacon had a very basic knowledge of the people, and how to defend himself. This wasn't enough, of course, and he had to face quite a bit of persecution among the hardened citizens. But after living his life in the streets, stealing whatever he needed from dumpsters and storefronts, Deacon decided to try to join the military. After telling them of his intent, and that he may be the first of many to join forces with the Nepleslians as, if nothing else, close combat fighters, Deacon was offered a tentative spot amongst a group of fresh trainees. Where he goes after that, he only hopes to be there long enough to prove his race's capability for combat.
