Build and Skin Color: She's short, but she packs a punch. She has an athletic build, muscular arms and legs, and has more “junk in her trunk” than she is top-heavy. Her skin tone is light.

Eyes and Facial Features: Des has gray eyes that are somewhat small, but not narrow. They are cybernetic, but she retained her original eye color. Her cybernetics give her enhanced night vision and other enhanced vision outside of the UV spectrum. Her eyes are also protected against ultraviolet and radiation. Her nose and mouth are small. Her features could be described as “cute,” but it's not really advisable to tell her that.

Ears: Her ears are round, generally human, and set close to her head, nothing notable about them. Some of the cybernetic features installed in her ears include an expanded frequency range, anywhere from 12-100,000 Hz, automatic decibel buffering to protect against damaging dB levels, and amplifiers, to pick up softer dBs as needed.

Hair Color and Style: Currently her hair is black. It's cut short and it's usually messy. She doesn't care what it looks like as long as it's out of her face.

Distinguishing Features: She has many tattoos which she doesn't talk about, mainly because most of them were done as bets or dares. She has a large, elongated scar on her head from a loading dock accident, but her hair covers it.

Personality: Des lives by her impulses. Her brother Elvis describes her as “predictably unpredictable.” Currently she's trying to overcome her reckless lifestyle; she attributes age and maturity to adopting this change.

She's easy to get along with and has an adaptable demeanor, and she doesn't hold grudges. Though she appears rough around the edges, her simple tastes mean she's laid-back and always ready for the next task/mission. She's no stranger to sarcasm, but she tries not to get overly cynical about anything. She's also afraid of looking back on her life, and is thus always moving forward.

Des does not like putting her compassion on display, but she'll gladly help those she feels are deserving of her time, energy and attention.

Sonny Caldwell (65), father. Marcia “Marcy” Jacoby (62), mother. Brothers (oldest to youngest): Trent (36), Herbert “Herb” (35, missing), Elvis (34), Gordon (deceased, was 22 at time of death; would be 26 as of the creation of this profile). Ex-husband: Jared Rinker.

Des grew up in a commune near a major spaceport on Nepleslia. Her father worked for the Port Authority but eventually found himself mixed up in illegal trade for easy money. Des's mother spent most of her time trying to shield the rest of the family from their father's activity. She's still at home and Des and her brothers remain in close contact with her. Sonny's criminal activities may have caused Herb's disappearance (Herb also worked for the Port Authority). Trent and Elvis are in the Navy, and Gordon was killed in a spacecraft accident. He was a Marine.

Sonny is retired and separated from Marcy. The family has little contact with Sonny.

Des married young after secondary school and worked in imports/exports at the docks for over ten years. Her husband, Jared Rinker, was–as she describes him now–a lout and a moocher. He was rarely employed during their marriage. Des had a wake-up call when she turned 30 and left Jared to join the Marines. Actually, Jared dared her to join. She did. Her squandered youth was her motivating factor throughout Boot Camp. She did as well, and even better, than females ten years her junior.

Communication: Des is familiar with basic radio operation and procedures and can make transmissions to and receive transmissions from other characters through headsets, ships, ground vehicles, power armor, and shuttles in both combat and non-combat conditions. She is fluent in Nepleslian. She can speak and write it correctly and efficiently and can write reports, fill forms, issue orders under fire, etc. Des is skilled in field communications and is proficient in all rudimentary forms of communication (hand signals, flashing lights, etc).

Fighting: Des received intensive hand-to-hand combat training (primarily focused on disabling and/or killing opponents) and has followed up that knowledge with a rigorous training program. Weapons she is trained in include pistols of all types, knives, grenades (and other forms of explosive weaponry) and rifles of all kinds. Des is in excellent physical shape and has considerable endurance. She is also able to pilot land-based power armors, but must rely on the suit’s A.I. to do anything advanced.

Survival: Des knows how to survive in hostile environments. She can build shelters, hunt and forage for food, build a fire, etc. Des can camouflage herself and is familiar with guerrilla warfare tactics.

Strategy (Tactics/discipline): Des can understand and give out tactical commands and work with his troop to follow those commands efficiently. She knows the importance of teamwork on the battlefield, has been intensively trained in discipline and morale, and is able to recognize the command structure even while under extreme pressure (combat, etc). Des is able to recognize ambush points. She knows basic math in order to calculate distances, etc, and can use a tactical map.

Art: Des is a self-taught artist. She likes to sketch as a lo-tech activity. It helps her unwind.

Vehicles: Des knows her way around airbikes and has competed in amateur racing events for quite some time. She was even given the opportunity to compete in the pro circuit, but her love of the sport cooled significantly after the death of her brother.

Maintenance and Repair: Though she has not attended any vocational courses, Des has always been a tinkerer and can repair small vehicles and gadgets fairly well. She hopes to sharpen these skills in the Marines.
