Build and Skin Color: Ulrich has a light, somewhat lithe build, with a tendency to loom over shorter people. His skin is pale white.

Eyes and Facial Features: Wide set, almond shaped hazel eyes, with a small scar under the left eye. His eyebrows are thick and dark, with a break in the left caused by an old burn scar. He has a small and pointy nose. He has gaunt, sunken cheeks, and thin lifeless lips. His jaw is straight and pointed. He keeps himself clean shaven. All of this combines to make Ulrich seem much older than he actually is.

Ears: Standard Nepleslian ears with slight cauliflowering.

Hair Color and Style: Ulrich has black, combed backed hair, gone white at the temples owing to a birth defect.

Distinguishing Features: Ulrich has several small scars on his face. His right leg below the femur has been replaced with a cybernetic prosthesis.

Personality: Ulrich is a quiet and old fashioned man, with a warm, but closed off heart. He is a calm, level headed and even tempered individual. Ulrich can work well, in a crowd, but dislikes being alone. He's sociable in a group and thoughtful alone. He has an inveterate soft spot for loners, sympathising with them after spending many a night alone in his life. Ulrich wont hesitate to let someone know if they've done something to anger or upset him, in fact he wont hesitate to tell anyone is something has angered or upset him.

While Ulrich is by no means a nasty man, his natural cynicism and quietness, can combine to make him seem distant, although the small canteen of whiskey forever attached to his belt remedies that. Despite Ulrich's good diction, he has a tendency to swear too much.

Ulrich was born 24 years ago, in a backstreet apartment to a Erich Vater and Abigail Vater. His father Erich was a teacher and his mother Abigail a Soldier in the Star Army of Yamatai. When Ulrich was 14, Erich met his end in a back alley mugging, this changed the brash young man immensely, serving as both an eye opener and a calming agent. Now spending most of his time alone; due to his mother's postings and his fathers death, Ulrich fell back on his studies and the training his mother assigned him. Never the academic type, and distracted as he was, Ulrich failed most of his classes. Barely passing a few, but he did manage to pass both engineering and chemistry with flying colours.

Several months of solitude passed, and Ulrich; now in his 18, decided he wanted to see the world, and so one day he gathered up his possessions and strode out the door, never to look back. After months of wandering, Ulrich found himself lost, without a penny to his name, stripped of everything; even his idealism. Spending nearly 2 years wandering the world, making just enough to scrape by, Ulrich was slowly ground down, becoming stoic and cold, then fate happened to intervene. Ulrich was staying in a small village, called Floretsa, and as a patron of the arts, he decided to visit the local opera house, it was there that he met Maria. She was neither a singer nor a stage hand, she was a disgruntled violinist, who decided to attack the lead singer with her violin mid song, until she was dragged off stage and cast in jail.

Ulrich was so captivated with this woman, that he went to visit her in prison, after talking for hours and hours Ulrich left to scrape together every bit of money he could find, the next day he returned to pay her bail. Ulrich had no idea why he was so drawn to this woman. She was brash and ill tempered, her eyes seemed to look into his soul, searing her mark upon it, in a way she scared him, this intense, overpowering woman, he had to have her. 2 years later they were married and living in a small house in Floretsa. Despite Maria bringing in as much money as she could, and Ulrich selling some of his projects on the side, there just wasn't enough money to give them a comfortable life, let alone start a family. So with after a final night with Maria, Ulrich set off to join the Marines. Determined to win his Maria a better life.

Chemistry: One of the few subjects Ulrich did well with at school. Ulrich always enjoyed chemistry, eventually he gained a degree, graduating at top of his class. When nudged Ulrich is also capable of creating more than just explosives, given the right ingredients and equipment Ulrich can cook up anything from a simple smoke bombs to complex metal alloys.

Demolitions: Ulrich's interest in explosives walked hand in hand with his love of chemistry, he spent many a night trying to cook up a home made charge, and this may just be the reason for his several cybernetic fingers. The training he received also greatly aided his explosives knowledge…mostly in the safety area.

Fighting: Ulrich received intensive hand-to-hand combat training (primarily focused on disabling and/or killing opponents) and has followed up that knowledge with a rigorous training program. Weapons he is trained in include pistols of all types, knives, grenades (and other forms of explosive weaponry) and rifles of all kinds. The character is in excellent physical shape and has considerable endurance. Ulrich is also able to pilot land-based power armors, but must rely on the suit’s A.I. to do anything advanced.

Survival: Ulrich knows how to survive in hostile environments. He can build shelters, hunt and forage for food, build a fire, etc. Ulrich can camouflage himself and is familiar with guerrilla warfare tactics.

Strategy: Ulrich can understand and give out tactical commands and work with his troop to follow those commands efficiently. He knows the importance of teamwork on the battlefield, has been intensively trained in discipline and morale, and is able to recognize the command structure even while under extreme pressure (combat, etc). Ulrich is able to recognize ambush points. He knows basic math in order to calculate distances, etc, and can use a tactical map.

Engineering: When Ulrich signed up his penchant for building and tinkering was noticed and refined. Now Ulrich can take apart and repair most basic weaponry and equipment and is capable of performing ad-hoc or field repairs where necessary.
