Physical Description

Previously ethnically “Korean”, Ryu Masaharu was above average in height at 185cm with a weight of 95kg. Due to his efforts to maintain peak fitness, he had a very lean and muscular build. With burnt orange almond-shaped eyes typical of his heritage, Masaharu had light tan skin and Dark Brown hair that can be mistaken as black without strong light. This is what left Yamatai space during the Kuvexian War.

When he was captured and later turned into an engram by a Kuvexian Corporation that specialized in AIs and genetics, he ended up being swapped into the body of a human female when said corporation was liquidating stock. Standing at 170cm and weighing 60kg, this body has features that could be confused for a Nepleslian Lianjia. Masaharu now has a slim and athletic build he keeps to physical perfection as possible. Her heart shaped face, broad nose, full lips, and almond shaped brown eyes are complimented by thick brown hair she usually keeps down to her shoulder.

Somehow you didn't find him doing any of that, he is maintaining his body. Very rarely do you find him religiously using his hard-earned downtime.” Giretsu Instructor

History

Born with no particular homeworld, Ryu Masaharu was born in the depths of space to the Ryu half of the Ryu-Mizumitsu Clan. Their trade routes increasingly started to become tied with Nataria and the activities of the Star Army of Yamatai located there. This almost doomed the Ryu Clan during the Second Mishhuvurthyar War when their trade convoy got caught up in the surprise attack of the NMX in YE 31. While many die in the process, the core of the clan managed to limp their way to safety thanks to the sacrifices of SAoY ships providing cover.

This was something Masaharu would never forget, feeling he had a life debt that needed to be repaid. No one was surprised he would enlist into one of the toughest occupations, Communication/EW Ranger with a giretsu option in his enlistment contract. He even managed to convince a female recruit from Anisa to join him on the giretsu adventure, despite the fact that her choice career was to be a clerk.

But unlike that clerk, he spent the vast majority of the last year in training. First the 8 weeks of basic, then 8 more weeks of hell at the School of Advanced Infantry Combat, and finally 12 more weeks of recon training. The 4 weeks of specialty training for his secondary occupation of IT communications/EW specialist was a vacation compared to the rest.

Spending a few months at a training Giretsu century, Masaharu is ready for his first operational assignment. Everything was fine until in late YE 42 he and many of the ground elements of the start was captured by Kuvexian forces. Masaharu had the misfortune of being seperated from the others and sold to a corporation for experimentation.

Curious about the minds and systems of Minkans, they regularly pushed him to the max to see what the limits of NH-series lifeforms were physically and how the digital mind adapts to it. Eventually deciding that his mind was better extracted than remaining in his body, he was transferred into infomorph and offline line stored in an implant for one final experiment: transferring an infomorph into a still “occupied” organic brain with nanites. Whatever happened to his original body is unknown to Masaharu.

The corporation went bankrupt after the events of the Battle Of Glimmergold. Not labelling their properties very clearly, liquidators just sold it all to the highest bidder with equally misleading titles. The implant was sold to a Ehlen War Chief“ by the name of Choi Daanying.

Giving it to a female human lieutenant and friend of her's named Fong Wa-wan. Wishing for a means to learn new skills more efficiently, both were excited that the implant labeled as “Hacking AR Tutuor Software”. The implant was quickly inserted into the standard Kuvexian dataport without really checking it.

When the initial software was installed and the nanites started to disseminate into the body, Masaharu himself in the mind of Wa-wan. Unaware of the circumstances, he treated the alien human as another hostile Kuvexian engineer. He regularly tried to interfere as much as he could, screaming his Star Army service number, rank, and name. The resulting conflict of ghosts manifested physically within Wa-wan, with her occasionally having episodes of pain, vomiting, and what others thought were illusions initially.

Not wishing to see her friend suffer, attempts were made to remove the implant. But each attempt always nearly killed her as it was discovered the implant had fully integrated with the body thanks to the nanites. Despite being her friend, Daanying ended up seeing her as a lost cause. She found the best location for Wa-wan to work as a mercenary and die honorably at a Kuvexian trading outpost in chaos.

As they struggled internally and to get work to sustain themselves, each began to view the other's memories as they blended. A remorseful Masaharu quickly realized he was the one with the advantage in this situation as he gradually could assert control over the body (often in bad situations). The pair even managed to find a Far Line Regiment patch on the station which helped Wa-wan to understand why he was the way he was when it triggered a strong flashback of his training and the event of his capture.

Before Wa-wan was completely written over, Masaharu met a shady Kuvexian desperate for money. In possession of a ST device capable of storing ST copies on a portable device as an infomorph. Isolating as much of Wa-wan as he could in the organic mind, got a supposed back up of Wa-wan which he carries on him at all time as a datashard hidden within as her identification tags. If it is what the Kuvexian really did is something to determine at a later date.

In YE 44, Masaharu (now under the alias Ryu Wa-wan) managed to navigate her way out of the Kuvexian sector and return to the Kikyo sector. Ending up at Sood Zadra briefly, an opportunity presented itself when a Nepleslian Reds smuggler was willing to operate on “credit” to smuggle her back into the Yamatai Star Empire to finally present herself to the nearest SAoY unit. But the plan did not not exactly go as planned as she was caught by immigration authorities. But she at least finally returned to the SAoY.

Long past her initial term's expiration, she opted to not re-enlist, leaving service in YE 45.1 after 4+ years of service. Wishing to clear her head while figuring what to do in the greater scheme of life and away from anything Yamataian as she felt like she no longer belonged, she moved to Shenhong City on Fujiko IV to attempt to blend in with the Nepleslian Reds. She had enough cybernetics that made her not completely stick out from the Nepleslians (Reds and non-Reds) the moved there and already attempting to make their own shanty towns.

Late in YE 45, while participating in the Kikyo tradition of receiving free salvage from second_chance_corporation, she received an an unexpected surprise. While picking up her items from the Ryu Shipping Lines container yard, she was greeted by three beings best described as “Yamataian Samurai Penguins” guarding the small shipping container. Despite her efforts to persuade them to find someplace else to employ themselves, they swear their allegiance to her as their “liege” with the three becoming her loyal “retainers”.
