IIS-G1-U1 Peltier Bodysuit

The Peltier Bodysuit is an optional module to be added to the IIS-G1 "Last Resort" Self-Contained Survival Apparatus. It provides the ability for self-generation of electricity even when the occupant is stationary. It also creates homeostasis by thermally regulating the body temperature of the user. In conjunction with other modules, it can induce cryostasis.

Description

The Peltier Bodysuit is a stretchy bodysuit that is inlaid with countless micro-peltiers. The peltier modules cover the entire exterior of the suit, which is made up of thermally conductive polymer. The stretchy material can also be replaced with Dataweave, or used in conjunction with other Dataweave, albeit adding bulk and requiring a IIS-G1 "Last Resort" Self-Contained Survival Apparatus to use. A tiny control chip is found under the chin, thin as paper.

Usage

The Peltier Bodysuit uses the principle of peltier temperature control to very accurately keep the operator at a specific temperature. By providing electricity, one side of the peltiers rapidly heats and the other rapidly cools. The polarity can be reversed for the opposite effect. As the modules are made of top-of-the-line components, there is no risk of them burning out even when used with ineffective cooling solutions, but in that case they won't be as effective. By coordinating the modules with their in-built sensors and feeding that back to the control chip, homeostasis and therefore livable temperatures can be maintained for very extended periods of time in extreme conditions.

Additionally, if there is already a temperature delta that exists between the two sides of the peltiers, an electric current is generated. For example, if the occupant is generating bodyheat on one side and the other is very cold, the suit will generate sizeable amounts of electricity. Given the efficiency and sophistication of modern electronics, this is a surprising amount even for small deltas. When the peltiers are on and the system is running low on energy, the control chip will alternate certain chips being on or off. This allows them to create electricity to support the other modules, while not compromising much on the system's overall cooling performance.

When used in conjunction with the IIS-G1-U5 Nanomachine ADNR Cocoon, the control chip checks if the occupant has been immobile for 5 minutes within the cocoon. If they have, the peltiers begin rapidly cooling the occupant down, very close to absolute zero. This places the occupant in cryostasis, meaning that as long as the IIS-G1 "Last Resort" Self-Contained Survival Apparatus functions, the occupant can technically survive.

If recovered, this often means the user may have a case of frostbite, depending on how quickly they are warmed up and how advanced the medical technology available is. However, if the IIS-G1 "Last Resort" Self-Contained Survival Apparatus also contains a IIS-G1-U2 Medicinal Reservoir Autoinjector, that can be filled with a type of antifreeze that entirely prevents side-effects of the cryostasis. A vial of this substance comes with the purchase of a Peltier Bodysuit for free.
