OI-O1-1A Kirin Feather

Designed in YE 31 by Origin Industries, the O1 Kirin Feather is a compact combat support drone, designed to support powered frames in combat situations.

About the Kirin's Feather

Designed in YE 31 by Origin Industries, the O1 Kirin Feather is a compact combat support drone, designed to support powered frames in combat situations. Developed in conjunction with the OI-M1-2A Enhanced Ashigaru "Kirin", the Kirin Feather is stored on combat frames in multiples of four, eight being the standard number. The AI control systems on the drone are slaved to the parent frame's AI system, taking orders directly from the frame. Though lightly armored, the drone is equipped with a single pulse laser, missile racks, and a blade, allowing it to assist in attacking much larger targets, or to be used as a distraction.

Statistical Information

Government: Various Buyers Organization: Origin Industries Type: Support Combat Drone Designation: OI-O1-1A Kirin feather Designer: Origin Armor Works Manufacturer: Origin Industries

Appearance: The Kirin feather resembles a long, thin Isosceles triangle, with numerous thruster exhausts on its rear, and a somewhat pointed and tapered blade forming its point. Under the blade is a metallic barrel shroud, protecting a ultraviolet laser lens. Rows of altitude thrusters line the sides of the drone. Width: 90 cm Length: 2.4 meters Height: 76 cm Mass(Combat Load): 6.9 kg

Speeds

Air speed: Mach 6.4 Zero Atmosphere: .42c

Range: up to 250 KM away from the parent unit. Operational Time: 4 Hours

Damage Capacity

See Damage Rating (Version 3) for an explanation of the damage system.

Hull: 5 Shields: 1(1)

Weapons Systems

(1) Spearpoint Blade

This blade is designed to help the feather do damage as a relativistic kinetic kill vehicle when all of its on board munitions are depleted. The blade forms the pointed nose of the Kirin Feather. Note: At speeds higher than Mach 3, the Kirin Feather effectively becomes an Tier 5 or Tier 6, Medium Anti-Armor or Heavy Anti-Armor (FIXME: Staff needs to determine which) RKKV .

Purpose: Anti-Armor, Location: Front of the Drone Damage: Tier 5 or Tier 6, Medium Anti-Armor or Heavy Anti-Armor (FIXME: Staff needs to determine which) Range: Melee

(1) Ultraviolet Pulse Laser

OI-M1-W3104 Ultraviolet Pulse Laser

Purpose: Anti-Armor Location: Underside of the Heat Blade Damage: Tier 5 or Tier 6, Medium Anti-Armor or Heavy Anti-Armor (FIXME: Staff needs to determine which) Range: 200 meters in atmosphere,100,000 KM in space Rate of Fire: Two pulses a second Muzzle Velocity: 1c Muzzle Flash: The Ultraviolet pulse laser's discharge is a short, violet beam.

(1): Missile Launcher

The Kirin Feather has a single three round missile magazine, located in the main body of the drone. This is a full list of possible Missiles and Rockets that can be used in the launcher.

Systems Descriptions

Hull and Hull Integrated Systems

Hull and Chassis

The Kirin Feather's basic frame is simply an ADNR skin over an ADNR frame that contains the essential systems and weaponry of the drone.

ADNR Skin The Kirin Feather's outer skin of ADNR armor is just that, a sheet of armor there meant to keep the sensitive electronics and weapons inside safe. Armor Type: Light Structural Points: SP 4

ADNR Frame The Kirin Feather's inner frame is not made for defense, it is only there to keep everything inside the drone in the right place.

Armor Type: Light Structural Points: SP 1

The Kirin Feather merely has a simply Navigational shield, to protect it from space hazards.

Location:Main body Shield Points: SP 1 (1) Runtime Operative as long as power is available

Power

Main Power and Propulsion

The Kirin Feather contains an Origin Industries Inline Aether to Plasma Drive, which serves as both a main power source, and as the main propulsion for the drone. The IAPD allows the Kirin Feather to achieve atmospheric flight, up to Mach 6.4, and accelerate to speeds up to .42c in space, even with a full combat load. Additionally, the feather has reaction thrusters along its surface to allow it to change its direction in non-atmospheric flight.

Electronics

The Kirin Feather uses an extremely dumbed down version of the Pawn system, slaved to the controlling Frame's computer. The Feathers are controlled by the parent frame's AI system. All sensor data is relayed back to the parent frame's AI. The Feather can be set to four modes of operation: Standby, Close in Attack, Long range attack, and Parent defense.

Computing

The Feather uses a small, advanced digital computer. The Feather's computer is only meant to handle calculations for the drone, and has no memory storage.

Sensors

The pawn suite has sensors which, in passive mode, can detect things up to 1,000 miles away, and in active mode can detect and provide information (Heading, velocity, size, ship type, energy signatures)on objects up to 550 miles away. The Feather has a variety of sensors including:

  • Electromagnetic sensors
  • Electrogravitic sensors (scalar)
  • Unified field mass/energy sensors (Field of force sensors (Ie, Gravity, Radioactivity, and Energy))
  • Neutrino sensors (nuclear reaction sensors)
  • Aether detectors
  • Visual sensors
  • Mass Detectors

Targeting control

The Feather's AI has a targeting control system that can give detailed information (Heading, velocity, size, ship type, energy signatures) on ten targets, and relay the information back to its parent frame.

Communications

Laser

For close-range transmissions, it is more difficult for the enemy to intercept, because they have to be in the area of the beam. Also limited to light-speed.

Radio

Full spectrum, Dual-Modulation, range theoretically unlimited except by interference. Practical range is short, since the waves only travel at light-speed.

Electronic Warfare

The Kirin Feather uses a Compact Electronic Countermeasure Suite for handling electronic warfare, such as ECM, ECCM, and SIGNIT operations. The ECM suite's AESA radar is powerful enough to create white noise over radar channels to jam enemy radar(up to 50 KM away)and focus its radar on a single target to (possibly) overload their radar(up to 75 KM away), as well as illuminating targets for radar guided munitions.
