In YE 43, the Yugumo Corporation launched a standardisation program for their starship subsystems similar to that of those produced for the Star Army of Yamatai. The Standard Life Support Systems was one of the first systems to fall under this new project.

The Yugumo Corporation wanted to design a standard set of life support systems that set a higher level of quality for the civilian market. They wanted to use reliable and established technologies such as Utility Fog and other types of Programmable Matter to assist with traditional maintenance of habitat onboard their starships that could be scaled depending on ship class and size. The system is comparable to the Nodal Liquid Conduit System but functions on a much more basic level.

The basic atmospheric system relies on a system that conducts the electrolysis of water to create oxygen for the breathable atmosphere on ships. The electrolysis systems onboard Yugumo Corporation ships uses pyrochlore as an electrolysis catalyst. Water sources for the atmospheric system are also generally brine to reduce the amount of power required to conduct electrolysis which is helpful during low power situations. Forcefield generators are used during battle conditions to increase the compartmentalization of ships to maintain the atmosphere in damaged sections. Utility Fog using simple nanomachines is used to assist with scrubbers and filters to purify and remove carbon dioxide and other waste products from the atmosphere.

The Water System on Yugumo Corporation ships consists of a series of scalable pumps and tanks depending on the ship class. Water tanks receive water from planetary sources or cargo tankers as part of the ship's resupply. Water undergoes filtration and/or desalination through reverse osmosis systems. Complex multistage filtration systems in combination with Utility Fog chambers help reclaim water from waste.

Some vessels can use graviton beam systems to capture water asteroids that are melted and processed for water as well.

Onboard ship compartments are scrubbed clean by the use of Utility Fog that can be pumped into unoccupied parts of the ship. The nanomachines in the fog are used to capture and dispose of dust and other debris to clean surfaces. These machines can also deploy ultraviolet radiation to assist with the sanitization of surfaces.
