The basic concept of the mass-driver is using electro-magnets to propel projectiles to higher velocities than old chemical powered firearms. Due to this concept, more ammunition can be stored in magazines than older firearms. This also makes mass-driver pistols slightly heavier than their chemical-run counterparts.

The Brefreier is a sleek and compact design from the older model of mass-driver pistols. Though the only feature installed in the pistol is a laser sight under the barrel, the Brefreier is made of stainless steel with a rubber pistol grip to keep it from slipping out of the users hands. There are also two attachment points, one on top and one on the bottom, to give the pistol the added ability to attach a flashlight and/or a scope. This however weighs the pistol down considerably so both options are usually ignored by military personnel. The battery installed in the magazine is to power the electro-magnet of the barrel and contains a charge enough to fire every single round in that one magazine. Since each magazine can be re-filled when needed, the battery also has a re-charge port so the same magazine can be re-used 30 times before needing to be replaced. But in the event of an emergency, the battery on the magazine can be replaced.

Wanting to give their soldiers a reliable firearm, Imperial Military Forces had the designers make the Brefreier easy to maintain by giving soldiers the ability to take the weapon apart. This gives a soldier the ability to clean and repair his sidearm on and off the battlefield with ease. It is also reliable for the sole reason that the Brefreier can fire in some of the worst conditions imaginable, even from underwater. This is also because of the lack of a moving parts, the only ones necessary being a slide and spring inside the magazine, it is relatively easy to maintain and clean.

Obsolete and replaced by the MDP-04 Service Pistol.
