Standard I'ee Starship Coil-gun

A simple, under-powered weapon that once served as the primary capital ship armament in the I'ee fleet. Now, it is found mainly on outdated vessels and smaller combat craft.

About the Coil-gun

By far the most common weaponry seen mounted on the I'ee's warships. It functions as any coil-gun would, using electromagnets to propel a projectile at high speeds. The weapon has its roots in old asteroid mining techniques once used by the I'ee, who literally blasted the rocks into pieces small enough to process. With the advent of interstellar warfare, the simple coil-gun was the first repurposed piece of equipment turned into a weapon for their starships.

Nomenclature Information

  • Designer: Unknown (Pre-historic I'ee family)
  • Manufacturer: Ithit, Ithee, Thi-Thi
  • Name: Standard Starship Coil-gun
  • Nomenclature: N/A
  • Type: Gauss
  • Role: General-purpose ship-to-ship weapon.

Appearance

The I'ee Coil-gun technically isn't one single model of weapon, but rather the same idea built in countless ways. Considering the weapon's role as a cheap, mass-produced item, its appearance can vary dramatically, particularly from one family to another. Pictured below is just one example.

Discharge Information

  • Effective Range ~3000 km
  • Rate of Fire: ~6 rounds per minute
  • Muzzle Flash: The weapon's method of operation means there is no visible indication that it is firing.
  • Retort: The electromagnets which fling the projectile hum loudly as electricity surges through them.
    • Projectile: Depending on the model, and who is using it, the Coil-gun fires anything from manufactured shells to hunks of junk metal. Naturally, the only theme amongst this vast family of projectiles is that they are all sensitive to magnetic fields.

Ammunition

  • Ammunition Magnetised metal rods & other metal objects
    • Average DR: Tier 7 or Tier 8, Light Anti-Mecha or Medium Anti-Mecha (FIXME: Staff needs to determine which)
  • Round Capacity: 500 rounds allocated per weapon port (Capital class vessels).
