Na-G1-01a Medtech MED

About the MED

The MED, short for Medical External Device, is essentially the basic medical kit for field use on Nepleslian armors. The kit includes a number of important pieces of equipment necessary for quick, effective surgery and recovery processes, including a set of drug injectors, a defibrillator, as well as many other essential tools. The use of the MED is restricted to the WATER armor.

The size of the MED makes it difficult to use in any NAM armor other than the WATER armor, as the small backpack on the WATER and high mod-ability of the armor allows for easy attachment. Each MED holds a large smart-magnetic pad on the back of the kit, allowing the kit to be attached to the open areas of the WATER’s back. The magnetic field can be turned off and on, allowing it to be removed, moved and replaced at simple leisure. The front of the MED is covered with two thin plates that slide out of the way when the MED is in use.

History and Background

Combat situations are always a grim affair for Nepleslian, seeing as their bodies are not as resilient as they would want. Previously, most medical equipment brought onto the field was unorganized and at the discretion of the medic who brought it. Thus, since the introduction of new equipment for their troops on the field, Medtech has developed a kit of all essential medical equipment a field-medic would need to save a life when other options are spent.

System Descriptions

1. Defibrillator

Compact Defibrillator Set The defibrillator is fairly simply in execution. However, the range of the defibrillator is restricted to minimize battery expenditure. Thus, to use the defibrillator set, the patient’s chest much be exposed…this makes the use of the defib set fairly nil in spacey situation.

The defibrillators are wireless, and run on a small internal battery that is recharged every time the defibrillators are reattached to the main body of the MED.

2. Injectors

Compact Injector Set The injector compartment contains a number of drug injectors, previously loaded with an assortment of medical drugs. The injectors themselves are small, rectangular objects, with a capped needle on one end, and a gripped handle running along the side.

The process of injection is standard fare; the point of the needle itself is sharpened to the point of an atom and made of strong, sturdy metallic composite, making for easy penetration into preset points into the nanomuscles systems of armors. The reason for targeting the nanomuscles sections of NAM armors is that they are usually much easier to pierce with the needle than a thick solid armor plate. The easiest, most accessible areas of nanomuscles would be around the neck, mid-arm and upper thigh sections of armor. If it is not a space environment, then opening the patient’s armor panels to reveal a body part is just as effective.

Once the needlepoint penetrates the nanomuscles and reaches the patients body and bloodstream, the drug is injected via a gentle squeeze on the grip handle. It is recommended that only those in powered armor attempt the injection during a space situation, as only the steadiest of arms and strongest of swings will create a hole for the needle without risk of depressurization. Once the drug is injected, the needle is withdrawn leaving behind a small amount of nanomachine sealant fluid behind, effectively sealing the penetration point behind itself.

Each injector can be used multiple times, as they hold more than one dosage of each drug. The injector slot each injector lies within has a short sterilization procedure that occurs when the needle is replaced, so replacement in-between patients is highly recommended.

3. Medtech Datascreen

Compact Savtech Medical Datascreen In the corner of the MED is a small medical datascreen. The screen details many important areas of a standard medical procedure, including the patients medical history, blood contents, basic medical readouts (heart rate), External/Internal injuries (in order from most serious), and a list of possible procedures the medic can take to assist the patient.

Most of the data about the patient is obtained via a short-range link-up the Compact Savtech Medical Datascreen can make with the armor of the patient, and the armors computer system. The Medical Datascreen also connects to its users’ HUD, to allow the medic easier access to the information and options.

4.Basic Medical Kit

Assorted Medical Supplies This small compartment includes a set of gauze bandages, Constriction Bands, liqui-bandages, splints, and many other basic medical tools. This area also stores small amounts of spare drugs, should the original amount pre-set into the injectors is spent.

Keep in mind, however, that the Basic Medical Kit compartment only carries the tools for treating injuries soldiers are expected to receive in the field. This narrows down to treating minor wounds so the soldier can return to combat, or stabilizing a downed marine. For severe injuries, it is recommended that the medic stabilize the patient, then immediately relocate the patient to the nearest medical facility or Drop Triage.

5. Medical Laser

Compact Medical Surgical Laser The surgical laser, powered by the compact fusion battery, is used when an injury cannot be fixed by use of the injectors, and when standard removal of the armor covering the injured areas has failed. The high-precision laser cutter is meant to gradually slice through small sections of armor to expose areas of importance, and can also be used as a scalpel for actual surgical procedures. The surgical laser can also be used for delicate surgical operation or amputation as well, when put to the right setting.

The laser is wireless, but holds an internal battery that recharges when connected back to the main body of the MED. Of course, use of the surgical laser is highly discouraged in a space environment.

6. Stretcher

Compact Antigravity Transportation Stretcher When in the event that an injured patient is not immediately treatable in the field, transport to a nearby medical facility or Drop Triage is highly recommended. In a large side compartment on the main body of the MED is a compact antigrav stretcher made of a light, flexible yet sturdy ‘smart cloth’, which grows rigid when an electrical current is ran through it.

When unfolded and laid flat, the four antigrav discs are revealed and activated as well as the smart cloth, allowing the stretcher and the occupant on top of it to float. This makes transport a much simpler affair in atmospheric conditions.

7. Power

Compact Multi-Cell Battery A large, flat, squared cell battery, able to power the surgical laser and other MED systems for roughly five days with sparse use. Heavy use may limit timespan, depending on laser usage. The battery is located on the back of the MED unit.
