Caretaker is an occupation in the Nepleslian Military that involves caring for of Nepleslia's military personnel, their facilities, bases, and starships to keep them happy, clean, and in good condition. It can also involve yeoman-type personal attache services to high-ranking military personnel. It is essentially the Nepleslian version of the Star Army Caretaker occupation. Nepleslian Caretakers serve in the Common Corps, the Nepleslian Space Marine Corps, and Nepleslian Star Navy.

In YE 28, a revolution that started aboard the YSS Destiny resulted in Planet Nepleslia and other worlds breaking off from the Yamatai Star Empire to form the Nepleslian Star Empire. The Nepleslians immediately began building a military for their new nation called the Star Army of Nepleslia. Many of the members of the new military were former soldiers or veterans who had served in the Star Army of Yamatai and occupations from the Star Army, including the caretaker job, were carried over. These occupations continued when, in YE 30, Nepleslia became the Democratic Imperium of Nepleslia and the NSN and NSMC were formed.

Caretakers perform a lot of chore-type duties to free up combat soldiers, such as laundry, floor waxing, polishing, and other custodial work. They may operate “storefronts” for the military like ship convenience stores. The position of caretaker is often used by the Nepleslian military as a place to put people who want to serve the military, but whose physical condition is incompatible with front-line combat (such as unusual body shapes, advanced age, lack of strength, etc). A good caretaker will keep their domain clean and looking new. This is important to help control the spread of interplanetary contaminants and diseases. They are frequently seen with mops, waxing the floor in front of the airlock door to a perfect waxy shine, or in their janitorial closest by their unauthorized still.

• Someone needs a beating with a yellow plastic “wet floor” sign
• Someone needs a door opened and the Caretaker has keys to almost everything and everywhere
