Neshaten Bolt Gun

The Neshaten Bolt Gun is a tool found used in the construction industry and also as an accessory in some kits. It was created in ER 210 and has seen very little in terms of actual modification and refits due to its reliability.

About the Bolt Gun

The Bolt Gun is a device used for driving long solid titanium bolts into the ground; it’s the guns only function.

History

The Bolt Gun came into appearance shortly after the Neshaten began to start building up larger settlements; they needed a means to keep light-weight items, such as tarps, secured to the ground so a gun was created that used high-pressure to drive a bolt into a ground.

Features

Contains the following features:

  • Capable of using bolts of various sizes.
  • Manual Loading
  • Uses high pressure

Appearance

Current WIP of the Nesha Bolt Gun; displayed bolt is two feet long

The gun looks like an oversized plasma pistol with the rear section housing the pressure chamber; there is an LCD display on the back, along with three handles. One is located under the weapon, while the remaining two are located on the left and right, each handle has a trigger on it for firing the bolt.

Dimensions

Length: 3 Feet (7 Feet with additional attachments) Height: 1 Foot Width: 6 Inches

Operation

The Bolt Gun operates by using high pressure in order to drive a bolt through the ground, pressure is built up into a chamber located in the back of the gun, and the more pressure that builds the deeper a bolt will drive into the ground. There are several presettings built into the gun, with each one determining the amount of pressure that is built up, and then bleeding off the excess until the gun is fired.

The gun also has a safety switch that can be switched on so that the gun isn't accidently fired.

When firing bolts, it is not uncommon to tie nylon cord, or any other kind of cord, around the underside of the nub before loading the bolt into the gun, this is usually only done if the intend is to drive the bolt deep into the ground where the nub 'will not' be accessible.

Setting 1

Setting 1 has the gun building up enough pressure to drive a bolt only two feet into the ground; this is commonly used for securing tarp or hand lines into soft ground.

Setting 2

Setting 2 builds up a moderate amount of pressure, allowing the bolt to be driven into rocks or other hard surfaces of up to only a foot or two deep. This is good for mountain climbing or for securing nets on the side of clefts.

Setting 3

Setting 3 is where the amount of pressure reaches nearly the max; it can drive a bolt almost six feet into the ground depending on the type of terrain it is being used on. Solid rock will yield only four feet to the bolt, while sandy ground will yield up to six to nine feet. This is good for securing things like the Mahurin Weapons Tripod to the ground.

Setting 4

Setting 4 is different from the first three settings because it's not intended to drive a bolt into the ground; it's actually intended to destroy the bolt. Pressure is feed to two diamond blades at the nozzle, which then 'slices' the bolt in half upon being fired.

Systems

Power Gen

The Bolt Gun uses a small Lunebaren Crystals for power.

Pressure Generator

A generator that is used for generating the pressure that builds up in the guns pressure chamber, also has a system to bleed off this pressure but can, in the case of an emergency, open up a valve that releases ‘all’ pressure.

LCD Display

The LCD Display shows the amount of pressure that is currently being built up in pressure; this is displays as Pounds per Square Inch.

Dash

Located just beneath the LCD Display are five buttons, the first four operate the guns settings while the last is the safety mechanism. When engaged, the buttons turn green, when disengaged, they are red.

Firing System

The bolt guns firing system is where the three trigger buttons are connected to, when the triggers are pressured, the pressure built up in the chamber is released behind the bolt which is driven forward.

As mentioned, there are three triggers. One trigger is located beneath the first handle, while one trigger each is located on the guns left and right handles.

Mechanism

Nozzle

The nozzle is where the bolt is ejected out of, however, the front part of the nozzle is slightly smaller than the rear portion of the gun, this makes it so that the fired bolt doesn't go 'past' the nuzzle, this results in the nub remaining 'outside' of the ground. After the gun is fired, the nozzle retracted backwards to reveal the protruding nub.

Loading Mechanism

The gun is manually loaded from the front, with the bolt's nub placed on the front. When the gun is lifted upward, the bolt slides back and into a 'catch' system that locks onto the nub and kee's the bolt in place, so that when the gun is lowered the bolt doesn't fall out. The catch automatically disengages when sensors on the ground of the gun detected a solid surface that is only a few inches from the gun itself.

These sensors also serve as a safety measure, so that the gun can't be used in an indivisual person.

Attachments

Comes with the following attachments.

Extended Bolt Driver

The EBD is an extension to the bolt gun that permits the gun to fire bolts longer than two feet, of up to feet feet instead. The driver is attached to the front of the gun. The driver can also be used to increase the amount of pressure behind bolts to drive them deeper into the ground.

Bolt Magazine

A bolt Magazine that holds up to five two foot long bolts.

Extension Chamber

In order to fire bolts longer than two feet long, an extension chamber must be added to the gun, this intends the rear portion of the gun and tacks on an additional pressure chamber.

Bolts

The gun uses three different types of biodegradable bolts. Each bolt has a nub on the back so that the person can tie around it.
