Scientific Studies Service - Apprenticeship & Internship

This page provides details on the Scientific Studies Service (SSS) Apprentice and Intern programs.

Apprentice

The Apprentice program is intended to inspire young people to pursue a career in science by giving them first hand experience.

Apprentices are typically dependent children of SSS. They are given the opportunity to learn hands on usually in the same area as their parent(s). Apprentices who do not have parents in the SSS are typically paired with children in the program of the same age. If there are none available the SSS has trained couples who can take care of the Apprentice.

The SSS does not pay apprentices, but they do provide them with food, clothes, accommodations.

Apprentices who are between twelve and fourteen, must also take and pass standard Yamataian Chūgakkō (Lower Secondary) classes. Failure to maintain satisfactory grades will result in expulsion from the Apprentice program.

Apprentices who are between fifteen and eighteen are encouraged to still attend Kōtōgakkō Upper Secondary or enroll in a Technical College but are not required to.

Apprentices may work in the following occupations. But they must work under direct supervision if there is any risk in the task.

Available work areas

Intern

Most internships require that the individual have some college training, typically at least one or more years towards a degree. All interns are considered members of the SSS, they hold the rank of GS-00, and are compensated via the Yamatai Prestige System.

Interns must continue their education, and must make satisfactory grades in their classes. As long as the interns make B or better grades, their education within the SSS campus is free. Interns making lower grades will incur a debt that must be paid or worked off upon graduation.

Interns may work in any occupations with the SSS. Their posting tends to be a temporary with the individual returning to full time education after the assignment.

Application

Applicants for either of these programs may submit their applications to the Gyouseifu (Administration) of the Scientific Studies Service (SSS). Acceptances are made on a quarterly basis, the individual is notified of their status, and if approved their report date.
