Culture in the Motoyoshi Colonial Sector

The Motoyoshi Colonial Sector region was made an official region of the Yamatai Star Empire in YE 43. It replaced the “Outer Colonies of Yamatai” and “Outer Colonies” regional names that had been in place since the fall of the United Outer Colonies in YE 33.1)

The region celebrates and practices Yamataian Culture with some additions.

History

The Jiyuuian cultural identity declined quickly after the fall of the United Outer Colonies, the flag changes of some member worlds between the Lorath Matriarchy and the Yamatai Star Empire for many until YE 39 were almost disregarded. Many were displaced and relocated to other systems, the economy declined, and piracy and crime became the only real way to make a living as politicians made promises and rarely delivered on them.

Once the Yamatai Star Empire took back full control in YE 39 things began to change for the better. Kage Yaichiro brought Sunflower Corporation's assistance and rebuilding efforts to more settlements and communities, and the view of the Yamatai Star Empire began to change. More Jiyuuian identifying citizens changed from UMC Synthetic Bodies back to Minkan bodies, welcoming services like SYNC and civilian level access to PANTHEON back after long periods of blackouts during the days of the United Outer Colonies. With these changes came an influx of Yamataian Culture and appreciation for the nation which had founded the colonies to begin with.

In YE 41, the Motoyoshi Clan returned to the region, which in the beginning was viewed with hesitation and caution. The Motoyoshi Clan that came to the region were not those of the Jiyuu no Motoyoshi that had made the United Outer Colonies, but instead were the Motoyoshi Clan led by Ketsurui-Motoyoshi Katsuko and Motoyoshi-Ieyasu Taro who had remained loyalists and rebuilt themselves in the Yamatai Star Empire.

The Motoyoshi Clan, established the Yugumo Corporation, which kick stated the economy when they were granted the contract for the re-establishment of the First Expeditionary Fleet, renewed the mining industry at Port Siren and established a clear and loyal agenda to the Yamatai Star Empire. The Motoyoshi brought more of Yamataian Culture back to the region, and groups like the Yugumo Workers Federation were formed to ensure that it was understood that loyal citizens were citizens who were given gainful employment. It was a change that continued through into YE 42.

At the Lantern Festival of YE 42, a terrorist attack made by Tange Terrorists and those loyal to Motoyoshi Kiyoko, a cruel traitor and renegade that had been exiled by the clan led to a perception that those who clung to the ideals of the United Outer Colonies had become terrorists. 2) Remaining hold out citizens that had remained in UMC Synthetic Bodies rushed to switch over to Minkan bodies. It buried the old cultural identity of the Jiyuuian and replaced it with something more acceptable to the Yamatai Star Empire and the Motoyoshi Clan.

Holidays

The people of the Motoyoshi Colonial Sector celebrate the Yamataian Holidays as they are in the Yamataian Calendar. They also celebrate the following holidays which are shared with the Motoyoshi Clan.

Additional Holidays:

  • Tsukimi 2日8月 - The celebration corresponds to the harvest moon of the destroyed colony at Taiie. Reminiscent of colonist farmers that worked the colony's fields it is a celebration of autumn that is still celebrated by the Motoyoshi and the people in the Motoyoshi Colonial Sector. The celebration generally includes feasting within the volumetric captured images of the fallen world's moon, accompanied by soft flowing flute music and tranquil gurgles of water features.
  • Lantern Festival 17日2月 to 20日2月 - Elaborately decorated lanterns made by citizens are put on display. These designs integrated with all kinds of creative expression; painting, flower arranging, carving, and sculpture creating. Lantern displays are judged and the winners are honored by being permitted to keep their display up after the end of the festival until the next year.
  • Unity Festival 15日 3月 - Added in YE 41, this festival celebrates the day of forgiveness between the Jiyuu no Motoyoshi and the Yamatai no Motoyoshi. Members of the Motoyoshi Clan gather to reflect on the healing of the divisions that nearly destroyed the clan. It is generally held at one of the Clans holdings on Jiyuu III or Yamatai (Planet). As of YE 43, the celebration was no longer just one of clan but for all citizens in the region.

Cuisine and Food

The cuisine and food culture in the Motoyoshi Colonial Sector remains very Yamataian with fresh seafood and rice being staples, but the food of the region tends to be a little more adventurous inducing more spicy dishes which was a result of subtle influences from Lorath Culture. Food Culture in major cities like Tokyo and Asagumo City includes popular food carts, and locally driven chains like Kikyo Pie Company, Tokyo Brewing Company, and Takeda House.

In recent years there has been a drive towards creating a fusion with Nepleslian and other foreign foods, while some chefs have been striking out to develop new cuisines created from foods grown in the Tsu Region or other areas.

Luxury Fruit Gifting

The recent arrival of the Iga Fancy Fruit Emporium brought a new culture of luxury fruit gifting. The focus on fancy varieties and native to the regional varieties of fruit has become almost tradition. People often gift these prized items to each other to celebrate birthdays or other Yamataian Holidays. 3)

Abandonment of Chiharuism

The belief of Chiharuism that is still held in some areas of the Yamatai Star Empire has been abandoned in the region. The influence of the Motoyoshi Clan since YE 41 has brought the citizens more in line with their philosophies which put the focus on Ketsurui Yui and Empress Himiko I especially in Nekovalkyrja populations.

Night Life

Cities like Tokyo and other larger cities in the Motoyoshi Clan have an active night life culture which includes social interaction in karaoke bars, night clubs, and Izakayas (like Tachi's). In YE 43, the music industry expanded when YTP Entertainment established it's headquarters in the region which has created more concerts and talent events.

Sports

Since YE 42, Aerial Football has gained popularity in the region with the establishment of regional games and junior leagues. The spike in popularity followed the establishment of “Team Kasairyuu” and Aerial Football Stadium on the YSS Tokyo.
