The Yugumo Nebula is on the Yamatai Star Empire's side of the galactic northern border between the Motoyoshi Colonial Sector region and the Kingdom of Neshaten.

Yūgumo (夕雲), means “Evening Clouds” in Yamataigo (邪馬台語).

The Yugumo Nebula was first discovered by the Fifth Expeditionary Fleet during YE 29. Despite being a border region between two nations, the Yamatai Star Empire and the Kingdom of Neshaten, the Yugumo Nebula has been a relatively peaceful and uneventful region of space. From YE 30 to YE 33, Motoyoshi Fleet Yards under control of Koyanagi Mayumi had gas mining operations active in the southern portion of the nebula, this ended however when the Second Mishhuvurthyar War escalated and the United Outer Colonies fell. The claim is now owned by the Yugumo Corporation, but gas mining operations have not reinitialized as of YE 43.

The nebula is a known refuge for Bothuturtha Pirates vessels that seek to avoid the active patrols of the First Expeditionary Fleet of the Star Army of Yamatai. Their operations in the region have intensified in early YE 43 with the end of the Kuvexian War.

The Yugumo nebula is a massive cloud of interstellar gases and dust.

The Yugumo Nebula is a Planetary Nebula which is primarily composed of expulsions from Yugumo-583 and Yugumo-584, both are Red Giants located in the central region of the nebula. Unlike the Ayumi Nebula, the Yugumo Nebula tends to be easier on starships and equipment, while sensors and communications are still disrupted, the nebular gas pockets tend to be more stable due to higher concentrations of helium. Theoretically, it is proposed that the nebula may have rogue planetary bodies within it that were once part of the star systems that belonged to the two red giants.

The Creepy Passage provides a natural path of transit through this nebula.

The only way to reach the Yugumo Nebula is by starship or other craft.

The nebula has no permanent inhabitants, but the Bothuturtha Pirates tend to have vessels here.
