AMTC - Self-contained Emergency Power

The Self-contained Emergency Power (SEP) is subcomponent of the Autonomous Medical Treatment Center (AMTC) and became available in YE 31.

The AMTC units require a reliable power source since a life could be jeopardized if power failed during a critical procedure. The SEP provided two redundant power sources.

Capacitor system

The primary emergency power source is a capacitor system. The system has enough stored power to operate the AMTC unit for thirty minutes at maximum power consumption. The SEP switched to the capacitor system automatically when main power fails. Switching time is fifteen milliseconds.

Aether generator

If the capacitor system is engaged for fifteen minutes and main power has not been restored; the SEP will activate its emergency aether generator. The generator is designed to recharge the SEP capacitor. The generator will operate for 100 hundred service hours before it will shut down for maintenance. The generator can recharge the capacitor in fifteen minutes.

This provides a maximum operating time for the SEP under maximum load at 200 hours.

Failsafe

If either of these systems fails the AMTC unit will not activate. If it is engaged in the care of a patient, and a redundant unit is available it will signal for a ANU to move the patient if it safe to do so. Otherwise it will conclude the task at hand, stabilize the patient then transfer them. If there is no redundant unit available, the system will expedite the critical needs of the patient to stabilize their condition.
