Star Army Half-Century Barracks (Plumeria Type)

When designing the new '2E' variant of the Plumeria-class (2D) Medium Gunship in YE 39 for the Star Army of Yamatai, Kage Yaichiro added two 52-bunk barracks to the vessel. These two “Half-Century” Barracks allow it to support a Star Army Century or other assorted occupants, ideally on a temporary basis. They can also be configured for storage when not occupied, minimizing their impact on the ship's functional space when not in use.

Dimensions and Layout

The Barracks are built around the Standard Star Army Barracks Segment, Type 40, with a 1 meter-wide aisle between two rows of segments. One wall has 12 segments and 2 doors, while the other wall has 14 segments. The version on the Plumeria-class specifically is angled to fit properly within the ship's hull and is 3 meters tall by 6 meters across and 18 meters long. In each Barracks, there is a single barracks segment that

Each segment employs a Military model Star Army Bunk Bed, Type 40 with two bunks, a desk, and the optional drawer. It is possible to increase the occupancy of each Barracks to 78 by using the triple bunk and desk version of the bed (or by placing bedding on the desk of the original version), but this would impact the storage space available to each person and possibly morale. This would also compromise the bunks' ability to collapse fully and be pushed against a wall for storage space.

It should be noted that each segment's privacy curtain, when shut, has its own identification number. Because each Plumeria has 2 of these barracks with 2 rows each comprising of 12 and 14 segments, the identification numbers are 101-114, 201-212, 301-312, and 401-414. 101 is in the front-leftmost (fore-portmost) corner of the port barrack, while 414 is in the rear-rightmost (aft-starboardmost) corner of the starboard barrack.

Intended Uses

Rather than being a long term form of occupancy for space travel assignments, the Half-Century Barracks are typically intended for temporary use as needed. They are designed to support 52 people, usually half a Star Army Century or Infantry Pilots on a per-mission basis. The rooms are also meant to carry survivors from allied vessels that have been destroyed or disabled, retrieved escape pod occupants, personnel being transported for scientific analysis of a site, refugees, or other unexpected guests that do not need to go into the brig.

When not occupied, it is possible to collapse the beds to put them against the wall while pushing back the curtains to create a large storage space.
