A career occupation in the Star Army of Yamatai, the Pharmacist falls under the teal panels of Star Army Medical, though their training also incorporates elements of science, primarily from the fields of biology (including xenobiology, microbiology, and astrobiology) and chemistry. Accordingly, Pharmacists work in both scientific and medical labs, where they are tasked with handling prescriptions, maintaining stocks of drugs, administering vaccines and immunizations, verifying dosages to ensure that a medication will not cause adverse reactions in a patient, synthesizing medicine, and yet more duties pertaining to the storage, preparation, and dispensation of drugs. As such, Pharmacists may work alongside counselors, medical specialists, and science officers as needed to carry out their duties, ultimately ensuring that any medicines, treatments, or drugs delivered to a patient are safe and effective.
The MOS code for the Pharmacist Occupation is 08P.
Having previously existed as an unofficial, informal sub-specialty of Star Army Medical, the Pharmacist occupation was formally recognized by SAMA in order to facilitate the training of more Pharmacists and to improve the treatment of alien personnel in the Star Army. In essence, Pharmacists have existed in the Star Army since its conception, but were only given their own designation YE 44.
In YE 45.8 the Star Army phased this occupation out in an effort to streamline its list of occupations1).
Pharmacy Specialists are enlisted-level pharmacy personnel. They undergo a certificate program which takes a two years for unenhanced students to complete, with accelerated tracks available for Nekovalkyrja, Minkans, and others who possess a digital mind or have a functional equivalent.
In order to practice as an officer-level Pharmacist in the Star Army, soldiers must hold a professional doctorate in pharmacy. These are typically earned by taking a pharmacy doctorate program from Star Army Academy, but may also be earned from civilian universities. This program typically takes four years to complete for unenhanced students, with accelerated tracks available for Nekovalkyrja, Minkan, and others who possess with a digital mind or have a functional equivalent. Accelerated tracks are also available for students who previously worked as Pharmacy Specialists or the civilian equivalent, for both digital and non-digital mind-enhanced students.
The minimum rank for Pharmacy Specialists is Santô Hei and the maximum rank is Jôtô Heisho. The minimum rank for Pharmacists is Shoi and the maximum rank is Taisa.
Pharmacists shine when played collaboratively, working alongside science officers, medical specialists, and counselors to solve problems. They are typically found working in science and medical laboratories, utilizing their scientific, pharmaceutical, medical training to synthesize new drugs and alter existing ones. However, Pharmacists also fulfill a number of more mundane responsibilities, such as tracking inventory, packaging and labeling drugs, refilling prescriptions, reviewing records, and yet more. When consulting with patients, they may give instructions on how to take or administer prescriptions and will check to ensure that prescribed drugs and treatments are safe.
Pharmacists work extensively with Hemosynthetics and are the go-to specialists for adjusting formulations to better fit the biology of non-Nekovalkyrja species or patients, including for those that hemosynth would otherwise have adverse effects.

Pharmacist players may be expected to keep track of a plotship's drug inventories, in addition to filing requests with cargo and supply specialists whenever stocks run low. However, it is perfectly fine for these duties to be handled off-screen, within reason.
