|“What if we could use the SPINE system to get mental backups? Then nekos could do it from anywhere on the ship without having to bum rush the medical lab.” –Rufus Syndey|
The concept for the RBU came about after watching repeated incidents of soldiers having to wait to get their mental backups updated prior to a mission. The RBU is a way to allow more than one update to take place without having to dedicate additional space to install more MBTU. The RBU is attached to the MBTU and establishes a secure connection to the ship's intranet which allows a crew member in a SPINE enabled chair to update an existing mental backup remotely.
Note: The RBU can not be used to create a new Mental Backup.
To interface into the RBU the person must have a SPINE interface.
One RBU can handle up to twelve mental backups simultaneously, it is recommended that no more than two RBU be added to a MBTU.
The user accesses the RBU from their location and initiates the back up for the specific interval. It is recommended that a medical person or AMTC unit oversee the process.
Because the user can select which memories they wish to back up, crew members are still encouraged to make a full backup periodically with a MBTU to ensure an accurate copy is maintained.
