Donations on Star Army

Star Army's funding comes from two sources: From donations and from Wes, the owner of Star Army. There are two types of donations: one-time donations and subscriptions. Subscriptions are preferred because they are more reliable and help us plan expenses accordingly.

Essential expenses include paying for the services that keep Star Army on the internet, such as hosting and domain names. Government fees and taxes are also considered essential expenses. Essential expenses will always be paid for regardless of the funding source. Discretionary expenses include things like art commissions. Star Army only spends money on discretionary expenses when the donations are able to cover them without placing too much of a load on Wes. In most cases, the site's expenses are discussed within the Staff Forum by Star Army's staff members as part of Wes's ongoing commitment to transparency and honesty.

Star Army uses Paypal to collect donations as well as to pay out to artists. Paypal takes a small cut (typically 3% to 6%) of payments received. It is a convenient and secure method that allows members to donate without having to reveal their payment information such as credit card numbers. You do not have to have a Paypal account to pay through Paypal; all major credit cards are accepted.
