Ayano was born with purple hair, essentially a combination of one of her mothers having blue hair and the other having a kind of primary color red. When she became a NH-33 (Tennyo) in YE 35, she changed the color of her hair and eyes.

The youngest Shimizu-Motoyoshi triplet has long, calypso aqua (green/teal) hair that falls to her mid-back in rivulets that have a wavy quality to them. When working, she is often known to put her hair into two buns or a long ponytail with one or two tails. The bottom of her hair lifts into a lighter color, as if a tropical sea is transitioning from the reef to the beach, where the tips at the end are a dip of warm gold to simulate the beach at the end of the color meld.

Her eyes are large and expressive, the color is the same as her hair but includes flecks of gold like the bottom of her hair that catch and scintillate in appropriate light. Her lips are quite lush with a cupid's bow shape, though the bottom is a touch larger.

She has a ravishingly beautiful face, and her pale, slightly peach-kissed skin is smooth all over. She has large, fluffy cat ears atop her head (moved from the sides and enlarged some) that are very expressive and almost as prehensile as the long, smooth tail she sports. The fur of her tail even matches the color-scheme of her hair, down to the tip.

The easiest way to describe Ayano's body easily is that she is bell or pear-shaped, she has very small breasts compared to the way her body fills out from the hips below, making her the butt (ha!) of jokes sometimes, usually because of her butt. Her hips flare out attractively, and she has a rather and obvious upside down heart for a behind, depending on what she is squeezed into.

The doctor has a higher-pitched voice which is very cute, which often belies how short she can be with others, intended or not. She usually smells like a hand sanitizer that smells of candy, types of cookies, or a popular breakfast cereal. Ayano insists that it's just the brand that cares for her skin the best.

Ayano is known for not always being easy to get along with. She is very proud of her work, and is not afraid to be up front about it, or challenge someone in a senior position if she knows they are wrong in a less than diplomatic manner. If there is a scientific discovery to be made, or care to be provided, she is often rather brusque or terse with anyone else involved. This is one reason she is still the rank of Taii after 13 years in the service.

Internally, she is not totally aware of why some people do not like her, and it is a rather large blind spot of hers. She has the saltiest mouth of her triplets, and her motivations lie in creation and execution of science as well as she is able.

Due to her prickly nature, she has trouble making any kind of relationship that lasts long, and her longest romantic relationships were ended when she was transferred to other postings, if they lasted that long. She does not know her family very well. Ayano finds it generally difficult to express her feelings without going red in the face, using sarcasm, being dismissive, raising her voice, or a host of other responses.

One of her personal goals is to have more hobbies and learn more things outside of her field, but without a push she is less likely to do these things, apart from her cooking which she just thinks of as another scientific pursuit. The problems she has with people she wants to fix, but is not as aware of her own problems as everyone else's, despite how glaringly obvious they are to those around her.

Deep down, she is a very caring individual, and has a hard time expressing her affection or love.

She supports the Empire, and all three clans she belongs to, from the Motoyoshi-Shimizu she was born into, to the Ketsurui that was added after her mother's adoption.

Shimizu-Motoyoshi Ayano was born in YE 30 aboard Pisces Station, during the International Relations Conference of YE 30. She was the last born in a rare pregnancy of triplets. To commemorate her birth a Star System in the then eastern expanse of the Yamatai Star Empire was named after her. She is a princess of the Motoyoshi, Ketsurui(through Katsuko), and Shimizu. This doesn't afford her any high place in any succession currently, as even among her triplets she is the youngest.

In YE 31 she entered the Star Army of Yamatai with her sisters, but chose to attend the medical program at the Star Army Academy where she also perused a consecutive program in the sciences.

She participated in the Second Mishhuvurthyar War during an internship as a cadet in YE 34.

Upon graduating in YE 35, she continued to educate herself on deployment, ending up earning more doctorates by YE 40.

Ayano participated in the Kuvexian War from start to finish, and lost many colleagues to battle. She was finally promoted to Taii in YE 41. Since then, she has had many deployments going where advanced medical and scientific knowledge was required, causing her to be moved around a lot.

In YE 44, she was assigned to manage care aboard a Minori-Class Hospital Ship from Task Force 48 during the Norian arrival named Operation Fireplace.
