The EM-G4 series filter mask provides protection against various airborne contaminants, it became available in YE 33
The EM-G4 series filter masks were developed to provide protection for people working and living in environments with potentially hazardous airborne agents. There are two models of the EM-G4, the 1a which provides respiratory protection and covers only the mouth and nose. The 2a also provides protection for the eyes and covers the entire face. The EM-G4 is not intended to serve as a protection against bioweapons. The EM-G4 is also completely strapless, it is held onto the user's face by means of a series of Micropumps along its edges.
The concept for the EM-G4 came about from requirements from two different sectors. When Emrys Industries established its facility on Planet Nepleslia many of their off-world employees complained of irritation from breathing the smog of Funky City. The company's medical division was also investigating developing a more durable and reliable mask to protect medical personnel. These two were combined and the EM-G4 series was the result.
The EM-G4 masks are made of a clear pliable elastomer. There are thin rigid elastomer ribs that help the mask retain its shape when worn. A colored filter disk is present on each side. Along the edge of the mask is a groove with a number of Micropumps embedded that create and maintain suction holding the mask in place.
The EM-G4 series masks all have the following components.
The EM-G4 masks are made of a clear pliable elastomer. There are thin rigid elastomer ribs that help the mask retain its shape when worn. A colored filter disk is present on each side. There is a tube that runs along the edge with small holes on the inner surface; the micro-pumps create suction to hold the mask in place.
The EM-G4 uses a small circular battery cell to operate. The cell has a 72 hour operating live. The cell is located on the inside of the mask on the lower part.
The Em-G4 use replaceable filters. The filters are designed for up to twelve hours of effective use. The vents allow air to flow both ways which makes the useful for preventing the spread of airborne contagions. An infected person can wear the mask and not spread the contagion.

Note: Filters of a higher class provide protection for the lower levels as well.
Located on the outside of the lower part of the mask is a switch that activates the micro-pumps. They create suction in the tube securing the mask to the user's face.
