Type 32 Grav Train

Ordered in YE 32 by the YSE from Origin the Type 32 Grav Train is a High-speed, high-capacity train system that uses guide beacons and antigravity instead of the usual tracks system.

Features

  • High Speed
  • Heavy capacity
  • Smooth ride
  • can be manually driven off course if needed.

Appearance

Details

the Type 32 Grav Train is made for moving cargo and passengers quickly and efficiently around a planet's surface. While the Empire's order was rather vague, their wish of a 'fast, sleek, and powerful' train gave origin a lot of room to design around, and eventually, a Grav train was decided as the most viable and effective method, as it required very little work to effectively 'lay tracks' when there weren't any tracks, and this gave the trains the ability to avoid unexpected obstacles, to help keep them on time. Powered by Aether, these trains are very fast, and very efficient.

Systems

Power

The Grav Train is powered by a pair of Aether generators, which power both its anti-gravity functions and its main propulsion, on top of all the other functions of the train. A single train 'engine' can pull up to 50 cars, another 'engine' must be added for every 50 cars. The Antigravity on the cars are powered by the engine's generator. If a car is detached it contains enough residual power to stop itself and drop slowly to rest on the ground.

Propulsion

Propulsion is provided by four light plasma thrusters on each car. The Engine car has two mounted diagonally outward on the bottom and two mounted longitudinally on the sides. All other cars have four diagonal thrusters placed underneath. Standard cruising 'altitude' is 1 meter above the ground, but can be adjusted between 10 centimeters and 4 meters, depending on terrain.

Computers and Electronics

The Type 32 Grav Train uses a specialized version of the Destiny AI 'Knight' suite, with shortened sensor ranges. The maximum sensor range of the Type 32 is 10 Kilometers. The maximum communications range is 200 Kilometers.

Defense

The Type 32 Grav Train 'engine' has six Point Defense Phased Array Laser arrays placed on a small dome near the rear of the unit.

Guide beacons

The Guide beacon system is a simple to install system of Solar-powered poles which give a signal to the train, effectively acting as tracks. If a beacon is damaged, it can be easily replaced or repaired. Beacons communicate with each other, the train, and the main operations for train stations, giving information such as weather, distance to the next beacon, and location of a train, as well as its velocity. Trains are capable of being turned to manual control and driven around unexpected obstacles, however. There is a safeguard system in urban areas that disables this ability, to keep the train from hitting a building and causing damage.

Guide beacons may also be powered by cables if solar power is unavailable.

Attachment points

Cars are attached to each other via a linkage on their back end, which locks into slots on the front. These slots allow for movement during turns. The front of an 'engine' car has these slots as well, but they are normally hidden by doors to help keep the front end aerodynamic. the Linkages have a small platform in their middles which can be used as a stepping point when traveling between cars.

Car types

Each car type contains two Grav assmblies, which are automatically controlled from sesnor data. their ride depends on the cargo weight, type, and the terrain the car is passing over. Passenger cars generally have the smoothest ride. Passenger and Box cars also have small doors on the front and back which allows passage from car to car.

Passenger Car

Length: 22 meters Width: 5.5 meters Height: 6 meters ADR: 10

Passenger cars have seats and tables for up to 150 passengers. They are double-decked, and contain small restrooms, as well as a food prep area for attendants to make snacks and meals for the passengers.

Flatbed Car

Length: 22 meters Width: 5.5 meters Height: 2.5 meters ADR: 5

A Flatbed car is just a flat car with a grav assembly on the underside. It is designed to carry one SSCC Huge, it can also use varying mixtures of other sizes of SSCC. Another common useage of the flatbed car is the carrying of oddly-shaped objects.

Box Car

Length: 22 meters Width: 5.5 meters Height: 6 meters ADR: 8

The Box Car is, essentially, a flatbed car with the SSCC Huge welded to it, with large sliding doors in the middle. It is used to carry normal freight, such as boxes, bags, and even produce.

Defense Car

Length: 22 meters Width: 5.5 meters Height: 6 meters ADR: 10 Shield DR: 5 (threshold 1)

For worlds with a higher chance of attack, there are Defensive cars. Once again built on the standard Flatbed frame, these cars contain light shielding for up to three cars (including themselves), and can provide defensive fire in the form of dome containing ten Point Defense Phased Array Laser arrays.
