Engineers are trained in the operating, maintenance, upgrade, troubleshooting and repair of starship, and starbase essential systems. This includes but is not limited to life support, shields propulsion, power generation and life support. They are trained in the use of diagnostic tools and systems. They can use fabrication tools to create replacement parts when needed.

Engineers often but not always have skill in fabricating new equipment for a specific purpose.

Engineers will assign Technicians to specific repairs needed on secondary system on starships and starbases. They can also guide Technicians in performing starship repairs or upgrades.

Engineers can perform all tasks that a Technicians can on non-starship equipment if required.
