The uniform itself, as far as we are considering it, is actually going to be something like a mantle; three species actually contribute to Asteria, and at least one of those species has a notable aversion to clothing. The problem we run into is that it's very difficult to create a standard uniform for the range of species that we currently have in the faction. The Ottyo can't wear bodysuits; they're feathered, and require loose clothing. The Vekimen despise clothing. And Bhelith's troops are mostly ex-Jiyuuian or ex-Yamataian, and prefer bodysuits, or tighter clothing.
Our answer to unifying these uniforms (or lack there of), much like the United Nations Brassard, is to propose introducing a mantle
much like this which would display a person's rank and station based upon the complexity of its make and embroidery.
Kind of like the Yamataian skirts were originally, the length of the mantle would denote rank or station. A commander of forces would have a cloak or a longer mantle; the officer of a ship or a staff officer would have a mantle about as pictured there; a regular soldier or an engineer likely wouldn't have a mantle at all.
For the Morioka Clan, their colors are Green and Gold, with Black, minor. The Vekimen use Black and White. So it's likely that the nation's colors will be some combination of those. I think we were holding off deciding until we had settled on a flag or a banner, but those are the three most likely candidates. The bodysuit for humanoids that we were working on is black and white, with a gold, or green-trimmed mantle over it.
Another idea I've been toying around with would be having people have heraldry, in much the same way that each Yamataian ship has sigils and patches, which would give the whole thing a very feudal feel for me - which is pretty damn close to what it actually is.
