Does the adoption system exist in Yamatai?

Can I assume that there is a set adoption system in Yamatai? Kind of similar to the American adoption/foster systems? Sort of related question: Is it possible for a Neko youngling to be orphaned, or are they held under tight security in some military lab?

I don't think there is really a formal system set-up. I do know that nekos do sometimes get raised in secluded, clandestine labs but that sort of treatment leads to nekos like... Eve.

Otherwise, if children are orphaned by the war, I'd think that neighbors or extended family of the fallen might be able take custody of an orphan. They can also be pressed into a form of slavery depending on where they are (Haven't seen this since Hinosami, actually) or some sort of work.

Age is relative in neko society, even a newborn youngling is fully capable of functioning as an adult (though tiny). So depending on the size of the neko child, it could very well just be taken into custody of the SAoY and serve as a member of the army.

You know Eve, the not so friendly, neighborhood, psychopathic, telekinetic, baby-eating neko with a flair for torture, explosions and it all on live television broadcast on Ayanee? You know the one that predates even the Grand Star Army days of roleplay?

Eve wasn't raised in the same type of family setting as Yui (though hers was odd) and Yuumi, and that was part of the reason why she was psycho.

More or less what happens when you take a fully formed, adult intelligence with no worldy experience and teach her that death, torture, anarchy and rampant crime are not good for you, but expected from you and, above all, fun

Of course, most neko are taught half the former anyway, but they tend to get a good dose of loyalty conditioning as well these days.
