Interest Check Figments of Fantasia

I am like killing for a good fantasy role-play right now, and as I love world-building and the idea from the wondrous Ira, I decided to see if anyone would be interested.

Figments of Fantasia will be a high fantasy MMORPG virtual reality sort of game in the Kikyo Sector, invented by some guy I will make up soon. It will be like a helmet of sorts I imagine that you put on, where the screen is all around you(like VR in real life), except that once you put the settings and join the game, you completely forget real life and it is as if the game is the real world, to fully immerse the player in the wondrous things going on in the game. Once the player exits, he/she remembers everything, and their real life, but once it is put back on, it is as if they just woke up from bed or something in the fantasy world. The details of the world I have not made yet, but it will be high fantasy with magic, elves, orcs and more. It is like having a character of yours RP a character of their own in the game. I'd like it to be sector-wide, for instance someone could play it on Shara while another for EXAMPLE(!!!) could be on the Eucharis while off duty, playing together in this fantasy world.

I also was thinking if this picks up to have other games made, like a gaming company, in a different setting, ect. As I typed this I found out about VCE, so perhaps I can use that and have a company that created the game for it? I don't know about that! Maybe a new version of it, or just make up an entirely new one, I don't know yet!

I am also debating if they should forget real world stuff or not while in it. I have been getting opinions on both sides of the argument.

I like this idea. You already know I'm interested. :p I'll be helping with this, maybe as a co-GM.

I like the idea of characters across the sector being able to interact. Although, the only weird thing I see, if I read this part correctly, would be that the characters 'forget' real life while in the game? I mean... That could cause problems if they meant to only play for like an hour... but spend a whole 'day' in-game before going to sleep and disconnecting and realizing they are now late for work lol. -shrugs-

It does sound interesting, but how would one manage it as a GM? Would there be a dedicated thread(s) for 'servers' that players can log into? I could also see JP threads happening either in the plot subforums, but that could potentially be toe stepping GM-wise. If it generates enough interest to warrant its own subforum, then that would be a non-issue besides identifying Server/World and who all is 'playing'.

Overall, I like the idea! Might take a lot of coordination and polish, though. Probably multiple co-GMs, too, depending on how massive this virtual world really is.

Like a video CadetNewb posted, in-game it felt liked years upon years, but in real life it will only be a few minutes. But I imagine there is a way to put how long you want to be in-game, and when the timer is reached, it shuts down? If that makes any sense. It will all be one server, with an overall plot(with individual plots available to). IT is all one fantasy world(to start....), like look at World of Warcraft, which is my main inspiration for this. Where it is one huge world, with expansions every couple years. It will all be one server, it won't be multiple. I will control most if not all like...leaders. Kings, Queens, ect. I planned for at least one co-GM, because I really wanted to have sort of two sides of this plot, with one on each side. Kind of how the World of Warcraft movie was. But if we don't have enough interest, we will just go with one. But yes, it will be kind of complex and huge, so if you'd like to co-GM as well I wouldn't have a problem with it.

That makes sense. Time is fluid, after all, at least in your own mind.

WoW has multiple servers due to the massive playerbase as well as different regions, but I can imagine Yamatai's tech level to being able to handle the server loads of millions/billions of players on at one time. It would be cool to have Faction vs Faction PvP stuff, too. Depends on the interest, but I could see entire JPs being made on a single PvP event, like a battleground or arena in WoW. Or, it could be entirely 'PvE' with different story lines for each faction that combine into the overall story. Either way, it sounds like a lot of fun!

*begins making notes on stuff* <.< Damn you, Zekec... lol

I'm interested in this and I have a character that ICly has used VCE, so that'd probably make the most sense for this.

It kind of sounds like the anime Sword Art Online, and that's totally fine by me! I'm not sure where to stand on the forget real life in game or not, I can see people using the game to escape real life. So maybe it could be a setting that the player can toggle on an off? Life if they have a terrible day and they want to play but what happened keeps sidetracking em, they could go into settings and press something that restricts real life memories from interfering?

Fantasy is something I enjoy and I honestly might make a new character for this as, none of my characters would have a VCE: as none of them play games. But I'd be game in all honesty.

When you're in the game you don't remember your real life. So I don't really get what you mean about real life interfering.. It's the ultimate escape because you literally forget your problems. I suppose for some people that might actually be traumatic and it could even lead to an inability to differentiate reality from a game.

I thought there was still a debate about whether or not that was going to be a function or not. My apologizes for reading the previous posts wrong.

The plot is picking up and the adventurers are in danger! While they fight their way out of a town that is overrun with Imperial soldiers, I would like to introduce some new characters. For what I have planned for the far future, I will need a few more members of the plot. There are a lot more races to choose from than in the very beginning, from wood elves and gnomes to giants and lizard-men. Classes include Witches, Mages, Warriors, Rogues, Priests, Shamans and Druids. These are not strict classes either. You can be a warrior mage who wields two long swords and wears heavy armor over a robe. Or you could be a priest that wears tight-fitting clothing and wields daggers. Be a peasant, soldier or king! Your influences will affect the thousands of players playing the massive MMORPG. Come help defend against the evil Imperium!
