Interest Check [Freespacers] The Graveless Sons

Code:
"Do you hear the smoldering of the void, brother!?
They all came for us with their androids and their aether and their bloody-handed empire...
But we didn't stand up to them for the sake of arrogance!
We stood up to them because we are free!
It was our death! The death we earned! The death we wanted!
A thousand to one, but we laughed and dragged them along! Each kill was a misery!
Come and die, cats of the Yamatai, we yelled!
They cling to their mold-encrusted rocks, bitter souls dragged down by the gravity...
Whilst we are the true born of the big black, born in the shadow of comet's tails!
And we will die free!"

Mercenaries... Considering that Freespacers are now regarded as pacifists, it's kind of telling that their entire legacy is actually built on the backs of war heroes and guerrilla actions. Those who fought and died against impossible odds have been basically ignored by new developments in order to avoid flaring up tensions, but I'm now starting to think there could be another way of doing things...

What about a pirate/mercenary ship that was utterly unique, with a randomly generated ship class, crewed by those who fought and died during the darkest days of the Free State, and now still stubbornly see the current cooperation with capitalists as a sickening thing?

They would sail the northern uncharted expanse, encountering other (also randomly generated) ships of their kin. Perhaps the player crew chooses to trade resources, or team up temporarily to investigate some potentially hostile aliens. Perhaps they simply choose to attack and pillage. A truly broken crew in a lawless void, there is a possibility of recruiting a vast and myriad pirate fleet, but then again, blood is also no guarantee you will see eye to eye.

Perhaps the vessel you encounter is religious and bears the bones of Prince Hassan, within a shrine to their fallen idol. Perhaps they see him as a fool and would prefer to spit on his grave.

Perhaps you wish to gain the favor of the various planet-based organisations in the galactic south. Perhaps you would prefer to simply spy on them, predicting where they would venture out next, seeking old technology, and beat them to the punch. Perhaps you simply wish to see their pathetic ideas of empire flounder and die.

This plot would also absorb the civilian crew of the Skeleton Ensemble; As beyond simple savagery, technical expertise is still needed to string these travel-wary individuals together. It is not, and would never be a standard, order-driven army, where one can be told off for carrying the wrong gun or painting their armor the wrong color. I'm thinking even weaponsmiths that the players encounter will barter randomly generated hand weapons, completely covering a scale of morality from anti-robot EMP projectors to anti-organic radioactive shotguns.

So in short, total anarchy is the intended aim.

These are Free-Spacers. And some of them still have pride in that name.
