Is there a general purpose mecha or power armor? Something that wasn't built specificially for combat? Even military outfits have non-combat utility vehicles, Jeeps for instance.
What I'm thinking of is something along the lines of a powered Hazmat suit for operating in dangerous or airless enviroments. Something like the Power Loader from Aliens but with an airtight cockpit and something more useful than forklifts on the ends of the arms. A powered armor without stealth gear, a basic communications package, a utility arm with a built-in toolbox and maybe a holdout energy weapon for emergency defense. There's a call for that sort of thing, I'm sure.
Say a section of hull was blown open during ship-to-ship combat, decompressing a corridoor on the crew quarters level. Airlocks activate, preventing decompression from damaging the surrounding rooms and corridoors, thereby trapping off-duty personel in their quarters and keeping on-duty personel from sleeping in their own beds. After the danger has passed, the problem needs to be fixed. Obviously it would fall to the technical staff to repair it, but do they just throw on a spacesuit and weld the breach together somehow? Or do they climb into a Kylie and graft a spare section of hull over the gap?
Maybe I just need to go over the mecha listings and ship specs again. In any case, my character has just been approved, so this is my first 'official' posting as a cast member. =P Someone remind me to get a avatar sometime.
