How much 'current events' knowledge do characters have?

I was reading through the Nep crisis and just started wondering how much of it my characters would know about. It also got me wondering, how much of what any faction does will my characters know about?

Well obviously anything that has been distributed through public news they would have the opportunity to know.

So the readily accessible information on Nepleslia would be this article. Which I am pretty sure that anyone who has dealt with Nepleslians would figure was suspicious.

At present there has been no Official Message broadcast to the SAoY. So other than what Hanako and Sune were briefed by Wazu on the Ikoi. There is no official information available.

Also just a reminder, militaries typically operate under 'Need to Know'

It is not enough to have proper security clearance, you have to actually have a need for the information. So for example, if a message was sent to All Starship Captains, unless they shared it with their crew. The average soldier would not know about it.

In a way there is. Each major faction has a communications area, used for communications, and the public news area is general avail. Beyond that its common sense.

I know we have the site-news thread, but maybe we can start adding things to the stories posted up? AKA, something to detail which factions would be capable of receiving/getting that information via public channels? EX: Yamatai sends out a broadcast, it'd probably be available to most of the sector for viewing. If the I'ee sent out something, it'd probably be just the I'ee that know about it.
