Lorath "Harvester" Class

It looks like a good design to me. I find going at a STL speed of 0.9c a bit excessive for a race that recently began exploring beyond their star system (hey, 'full impulse power' in Star Trek is 0.25c; 0.9c is extremely fast... even for Star Army vessels) and would have suggested to lower it, but the Star Seeker was approved with the same sort of sublight propulsion.

I guess that means the Lorath do have a knack for making very good sublight engines and adequately dealing with time dilatation.

  • I agree with Fred. The sublight speed is way too high. 7 years ago, Star Army vessels were lucky to even go .60c!
  • Any chairs or other furniture on the bridge?
  • Why couldn't the nets be used for pirates?
  • How is each section isolated from one another?
  • The CDD requires external placement - basically, 'warp engines' of some sort (although the new CFS ships use their hull shield generators to create the CDD effect). You're confusing CDD with hyperspace fold drives.

*Ahem* But the Star Seeker was approved and its STL speed is 0.9c

We could argue that it's too fast... but it was approved >_<

Considering the Lorath Star Seeker took 4 years to get to the point where they met with the Sakura... how fast would that really make them? Seems to me like the 0.9c speed was already taken into consideration... not to mention Tomoe has been stressing for a long time that some aspect of Lorath tech were almost as advanced as the Star Army.

The phrase he uses sounds sarcastic. Maybe they don't want pirates to think they'd use it on them? Or maybe they don't because they want to maintain good relations with future trade partners ...

EDIT: Fred, that avatar is all kinds of wrong.

Its meant to be sarcastic, of course pirates could use it, but I want to toss some humor in.

As for the speed, yes, I kept it at 90% of c due to continuity reasons. While I was writing it, I realised that I kinda botched the speed on the Star Seeker, but whats done is done.

I will address the bridge furniture issue, and I will also toss in some discription of the isolation system

As for the FTL drives, this system works differently than the Star Army drive systems, remember, it was it's very own tech submission. It is not a drive design that is being borrowed from Yamatai. But if it does continue to be an issue, I will restate the engines to also include subspace field coils.

Update: Edited the bridge seating issue, isolation issue, and I will hold off on the engine alteration until it is pointed out as a concern which needs to absolutely be addressed.

Perhaps the 0.9c engine was an early attempt at a Lorath interstellar drive that wasn't all that maneuverable and that the Lorath split their systems in two, including an engine that could go at roughly 0.6c with enhanced maneuvrability mostly inspired from the ships the Lorath were able to take a look at (like the Yushi)?

Actually going faster over maneuvrability might not be all that important anymore seeing that the Lorath made large improvements in their FTL technology and that they might need tighter navigational control in salvage operation or combat (which might happen).

I also would like to point out that I like the limit on the current FTL drive. It's a good start and the Lorath really don't need to go any higher than 10 000c in their nebula environment anyways. 1025 c is probably fast enough to get somewhere but slow enough not to require shields to navigate through the nebula safely, which is a nice compromise.

Well, with the 1025 c drive, the Harvester is able to travel 20 LY in seven days. Thus allowing the Harvester to get accross known and charted space within a month and a half. (Also, the 1025 c drive could be updated depending on what the salvage ship finds.)
