The Ake System was a small, desolate solar system used for weapon testing by Origin industries. Today, in the system's inner asteroidal belt, a single Courier class freighter, flanked by two Jinkans and a Justicar, sat motionless as it's cargo bay was opened. Inside, the newest Powered Frame by Origin Industries, the Kirin, was being slid out of the bay. After drifting for a short distance, the frame's EWO was given the clear to activate the IAPD and run initial systems checks before the combat trials were begun.

The Ewo ran her hands over her station's controls, starting up the IAPD unit , and checking the Frame's overall status. "Everything is a Go. We've got full start with the IAPD, Aether draw is currently at 45% of max output, and rising. should I cap it or do we wnat to go full out?" she asked, flipping the visor on her helmet to adjust her glasses.

The Pilot tried to crane his head to look back at her, quickly giving up. "Cap it off at 75% of max power please, until we really need it." Placing his hands on the controls, the pilot relaxed as he activated the Silhouette system, allowing it to boot up. "Control, this is Kirin, Silhouette system active."

The Mission controllers onboard the Courier were huddled around readout screens, observing the power levels and status of the Frame. "Kirin, This is control. You are clear to activate all Shielding. Begin a test of the AESA Radar, and check for any undue power fluctuations on your end."

The EWO acknowledged control with a simple signal, then switched on the Active radar, sweeping the area. she watched the readout, making sure nothing was there. "So why'd you join Origin's testing corps?" the EWO asked her pilot, offhandedly as she capped the power output and checked on all the systems to see if her actions had changed anything.

"Because of the pay and the danger, obviously. The cute girls as co-pilots thing doesnt hurt either." The pilot joked as he switched on the frame's shields, the output for the generators holding steady at around 89%. The EWO's radar screen suddenly showed two blips exiting the Courier's cargo bay, both of them of similar size to the Kirin. "Kirin, be advised. Two incoming Bringing Of Thunders approaching. They will be taking up station in the asteroid field ahead, in preperation for the next stage of trials. You are now being given the clear for movement and weapons testing. Bring your ECM suite to full standby power, and head into the Asteroid field at best possible speed. Advance teams have already tagged targets."

The copilot blushed and adjusted her glasses again, the visor still up. "Surely you don't mean me.." she mumbled, before control informed her of the next move. "Roger." she replied, turning on the ECM suite to standby and readying the long range weapons for use, as well as initializing the Kirin feathers.

"Understood control. Bringing IAPD to speed." The Kirin's back flared up as the IAPD began to propel the frame towards the asteroids. Already, the EWO's station got radar returns on two different target classifications: 12 smaller asteroids to be taken out using either the missiles or Drones under the EWO's control, and 6 larger dummy frames meant for long range combat.
"Be advised Kirin, you are weapons free. Engage targets at your discretion."

"Acknowledged, Control." the EWO answered, looking over her target screen. She launched the 8 feathers, letting them amke their way to target the smaller asteroids, while she unlocked and armed the missile racks, selecting targets to fire upon. she chose four untargeted asteroids for the missiles to fire at, and shot two of the missiles from each thigh rack, allowing the feathers to do their work on the other smaller rocks.

The Kirin raised both of it's arms up, pointing each one of them at one of the dummies, letting loose with quick bursts of autocannon fire. At first, the bursts were off the target, but as the system accounted for recoil, the dummies popped from multiple anti-tank bullets in the chest. As he cut the fire from the Autocannons, the pilot used the Laser Visor, sweeping the beam across two more.

The Feathers were doing their job, just as advertised. Immediately after launching, their own ECM systems activated, supplementing the Kirin's and being added to the EWO's management. Quickly closing with their targets, some of the drones dashed in to stab the asteroids, others electing to pepper the space rocks with their pulse lasers. The rocks lucky enough to not be targeted by the Feathers soon found themselves speared through by superheated jets of molten metal from the missile's shaped charge warheads. "Superlative, Kirin. Prepare for stage 2 of combat testing."

Once all targets down were confirmed, the Copilot switched her radar to search mode, looking for new targets for the frame to go up against for their second phase. the asteroid field proved fairly easy to navigate, as there was nothing moving too fast or shooting at them. "Kirin is ready for Phase two. the EWO announced, looking over her screens and checking to be sure everything was working correctly, for the third time.

"Confirmed, Kirin." Suddenly, as soon as the mission operator finished speaking, two new reaction signals, immediately identified by the PAWN as the signature of QNCs, appeared on either side of the frame, heading for it fast. The two BoTs from earlier had used non-thruster manuevering to get close enough to the Kirin, trying to charge the frame and trap it in a cross fire. The massive rounds fired by the lorath mecha impacted against the shields of the Kirin, forcing a reaction from it's pilot. "EWO, do something about their ammo, or distract them while we try to get close!" The pilot grunted as he pushed the frame downwards towards a somewhat large asteroid, heading for it at top speed, baiting the BoTs to follow. Because of the lack of sophisticated inertial control, this pushed the Kirin's crew into their seats, the force of acceleration beating on them.

The EWO stuck to the back of her seat as the frame accelerated, but kept her attention on the Feathers, using them to attack the BoT's on their tails, while arming the baby torpedos and redying them to target the enemy frames. "those things are remote-operated, right?" she asked, not really up to killing people; it was why she took the job as a tester, not a security person.

As the pilot pulled out of the dive in a sharp turn, he skimmed the surface of the asteroid, going behind it to hide from the volley of fire of the two mecha. "I'm sure that both enemy mecha are unmanned." The withering hail of bullets from the two Bots suddenly stopped, both mecha attempting to shoot down the agile drones. Drawing the heat sword from the Kirin's side, the pilot dashed the frame out from behind the asteroid, zigzagging towards the nearest BoT. "EWO, Mini-missiles to cover us, fire a quarter of them!" The BoT's AI took notice of the incoming frame, and turned to open fire on it. Unfortunately for it, a Feather took this moment to jam itself into it's arm and start firing it's pulse laser, effectively rendering it unusable
[
"Right away!" she answered, mentally cursing herself for forgetting the mini-missiles, and launching the requested number as cover, while ordering the feathers to pull back and fight from longer distance, avoiding being hit. "Shall I launch the Baby torps or do you want me to wait?" she asked, fingering the firing switch for those particular weapons.

"Hold them please!" The Pilot smiled, slightly as the heated metal blade pierced the BOT's chest, being driven in by the force of the impact. The Mini-missiles launched, going around the one BoT and on to the other. 5 of the missiles were intercepted before impact. But that still left 20, each of which impacted the Bot, exploding with a terrible destructive force; The marker on the EWO's radar for that BoT faded away, registering a kill. The Kirin let go of the heat blade, the heat claws activating and glowing a white-hot color before being brought down on either shoulder of the mecha, cutting through until the BoT's visor lost it's glow, the radar marker for that enemy fading away.

"Good Job, Kirin. Stand buy while we process the test results."

The pilot relaxed in his seat, untensing previously tensed muscles as he sheathed the Kirin's blade. "EWO, I never got your name. We made a good team today."

"It's Sierra Merkur" she answered quickly. "I never got yours, either, funny how they assigned us together without telling one another who we were." she chuckled, fixing her glasses through the upturned visor again. checking her screen just in case, even though it was unlikely anything would attack them in the Ake system.

"Ah, well then. You gave me your name, it's only fair I return a beautiful lady's favor." The Pilot smiled, and as he opened his mouth to say his name, alarms went off throuhgout the Kirin's cockpit, as well as in the Mission Control center onboard the Courier. "WARNING, Kirin, Incoming unknown Frame, it's on an intercept vector! It came out of FTL nearby, and it is heading right towards you. ETA till within maximum range is 30 seconds!"

The EWO worked quickly, turning up the ECM to full, while modulating the shields to cover any known frame-mounted weaponry, and putting the feathers in a defensive screen between the Kirin and the unknown frame. "Move us behind something!" she blurted out, activating all the waepons systems that had been deactivated.

The Pilot sighed, focusing back on the combat as he reached back into the wing binder's storage areas, grabbing the Ashigaru's main handheld weapon: The Hyper rifle, meant for long range sniping. "So much for that. Sierra, get a Feather out there to see what it is." Turning his head to present a small smile to Sierra, the pilot nodded to her. "If we survive this, I'll tell you my name, I promise."

Sierra launched one of the feathers at full speed towards the object, which was starting to get rather close, and focused all sensors on the thing, as well as scanning actively with the frame's own sensors."Identifying.. Identifying..." she muttered, waiting for a return, the Pawn suite should know all common and current frames, so whatever was coming was either custom, or so new no one had seen one yet.

Suprisingly enough, the PAWN could not return a match for the unknown Frame, but it could say that it's construction was highly similar to that of SMX powered armors, so it could only be assumed that this was a new NMX weapon, and as such, it was given a designation: NMX "Ravager". The Ravager was big, ugly, and scary, with four arms, two of which were tipped with vicious Zesu claws. Its back had some kind of large weapon/propulsion pack over it, and it was heading for the Kirin, like the devil itself was propelling it.

"This could be a problem..." The pilot paused for a second, temporarily frozen in fear, but he shook it off quickly. "Sierra, Try to use the Feathers to slow it down and keep it from getting up close to us, I'll try to snipe it!" Quickly dashing behind another nearby asteroid, the Kirin held up it's large rifle, taking careful aim at the incoming Powered frame.

"Okay!" Sierra ordered all the feathers to fire their missiles at the target, and then to continue to fire upon it until either it was destroyed, or they were. she armed the Baby torpedos and readied herself to let one loose if the pilot missed his shot.

A quick three round burst shot from the barrel of the rifle, each round moving at ninety two percent of the speed of light. As the feathers fired their missiles in unison, the Ravager raised it's arms to cover itself. Almost at once, the rounds from the rifles and the missiles reached their target. Any hopes of finishing this off quickly were dashed as the Frame's sensors noted the activation of a powerful shielding system, located in the forearms of the monsterous frame. They held firmly, but they had been weakened by the assault upon them. "This will be very difficult! Sierra, more missiles, now!" The Kirin lept from it's asteroid, moving backwards away from the NMX Frame, the Hyper Rifle firing at full auto, rounds impacting the ravager's shield, weakening it though the Ravager kept charging the Kirin, the large pack on it's rear launching large bolts of red-green plasma, mini-missiles and normal sized missiles launching from it as well, the pilot of the frame running in for the kill.

Sierra launched all of the rotary-launched missiles, as well as the mini-missiles. To add to it, she also launched one of the Baby torpedos, hoping to do major damage to the mecha. "Just kill it once i've weakened it for you!" she asked, following the thing on sensors and sending warnings to the pilot whenever a discharge was detected and showing the trajectories of things, suggesting paths to avoid the incoming fire while giving the smoothest ride for attacking.

The pilot slipped up, while trying to avoid the incoming missiles and still get a shot off on the ravager, he wandered right into the path of one of the Plasma beams. Luckily, however, the shields had managed to hold back the bolt, allowing him to get out of the way. The Kirin's head kept moving around, the Gamma Vulcans on either side firing continuously to shoot down the oncoming missiles. Using the frame's off hand, the kirin reached back, grabbing one of the Plasma Pistol/Sabers, adding its firepower to the rifles. The Ravager's own chainguns managed to shoot down a few of the incoming missiles, but that wasn't enough to keep it from taking a Torpedo to the face. Or rather, it took it to it's forearms, but the blast from the baby torpedo as well as the extra damage from the mini-missiles and the shaped charge warheads, was enough to burst through it's shields, shorting out the forearm generators and temporarily making the NMX pilot freeze up at the wrong time, as the Kirin charged in close, firing the Hyper Rifle on full auto at the main body of the frame, the plasma pistol swiftly becoming a Saber that was thrust at the heart of the Ravager. Unfortunately, the Pilot had regained his senses at that time, blocking the saber with it's massive Zesuaium claw, grabbing the Kirin in an embrace of death and squeezing.

Sierra yelped, firing off the rest of the mini-missiles at point blank range, trying to do what she could. She was runnin glow on options, and freaking out, so she did the last resort thing that she thought might help; Overload the shields manually and cause an Electromagnetic pulse, hopefully disabling the enemy armor, but they would be without shields once she did so. "I'm Overloading the shields, get ready for the pulse, let's hope it lets go!" she shouted, charging the shields up as high as they could go after removing the cap on the Aether generator, feeding as much power into the shields as possible.

"No, Don't!" The pilot yelled back at Sierra, doing the best he could to fead the energy into the Ionic Pulse Weapons on the frame's shoulders, traversing them down as low as possible to get a clean shot, then opening fire on the Ravager. the Ionic Pulse Weapons, when combined with the mini-missiles, managed to get the Ravager to loosen it's grip on the Kirin. "Activating Afterburner!" The pilot clenched his teeth as he activated the Kirin's afterburner, immediately tripling it's speed as he blasted upwards out of the Ravager's grip. Drawing the Heat Sword again, a small timer appeared in the pilot's vision, notifying him of how much time he had left. "Sierra, activate the fusion reactor, now." Pushing the IAPD to the limits would have it's toll, and It would already be straining, as the Kirin ran circles around the Ravager. The Kirin's sword seemed to slash out at the Ravager from every possible angle, the ultrahot blade slicing through the subarms, then stabbing through the auxilliary propulsion pack, causing the Ravager to detach it before it exploded. Try as it might, the NMX mecha didn't have the speed to catch the Kirin, Nor did its pilot have the reflexes necessary, the Kirin's claws and sword lashing out, ripping out one of the mecha's shield generators from the forearm and using it to bash in it's face.

Sierra stopped the shield overload just in time, and started up the backup power, providing extra juice for the frame, allowing the IAPD to focus only on itself and freeing the rest of the frame to work at maximum power. "Fusion reactor at 50% and rising!" she announced, looking about to see what she could do; almost all of the consumables were gone, and so she was practically useless now.

The Ravager stopped moving, floating helplessly in space, it's cockpit and pilot having been crushed by the Kirin grabbing and crushing it as it was still inside the frame. Pulling back from the ruined NMX Frame, the pilot deactivated the Kirin's afterburner, only for the IAPD to shut down with it, the drive having burnt out from the stress. Grabbing the ravager and pulling it back to control, the pilot smiled, finally able to relax. "We did great, Sierra. We make a good team. And i'm pretty sure we're going to get bonuses for managing to capture a new piece of technology."

"Heh. I guess we did. So, you said something about telling me your name? it looks like we survived this after all." Sierra asked, giggling lightly as she pulled her helmet off and mussed with her curly orange hair before replacing her glasses and looking over the screens again, not wanting to be caught off guard again.

"Javier. Javier Feyete, at your service." Javier turned and smiled at Sierra, nodding his head to her. "I hope we can fly together again after this." The pilot turned back to the main display, and set a course back to the freighter, dragging the Ravager behind him.
