[Plot] YSS Byakuren

Of course, I'll be glad to fill in details as we get started. For the moment, though, I don't have that much to go on. Sorry.

By the way, Wes created the YS Byakuren subforum. As the start of the plot doesn't involve immediate ship launch, it means that at the point most players are ready to start, we could get the plot underway.

Also, I'm still waiting on news from other people whom manifested interest but haven't yet gotten back to me. Tom and Moonman come to mind. It's also starting to look like Konoka might be a no-show after all. No medic anymore. >_>

For Aendri:
Infantry is fine; however also narrow focused. Anyone can follow up on the infantry role too. It's why, in the absence of technicians, I generally recommend those.

As for Soresu:
I'm actually unsure of how an Asamoya sprite would 'clear past' the SAINT screening. Short of the sprite having been previously enrolled in SAINT and considered dependable, or the sprite actually being an imposter using said cover story - otherwise I'm left wondering if the idea has traction.

Alternatively, if using previously created characters is what you have in mind, the sudden lack of medic had me think about Ruri's mother, Meme. Not sure how that would go exactly, but it's an idea.
 
Do you think maybe a pre-mission-1 mingling and communication thread might be in order?Or perhaps you could ask each character to start with a post of them doing some training.

I think it's possible for a former sprite to get SAINT training.
 
A mission briefing is pretty much the start of this plot. I could've put players in a waiting room prior to it, but I simply don't have enough of the interested participants seemingly ready to even do something like this.

As for Soresu's sprite, my goal isn't to make something impossible to do, and rather to define why it would be possible. There should be no PCs present in this plot "just because". The whole premise weights heavily on every character having a sense of purpose beyond "I'm new, joining your pretty ship, and I hope the captain likes me!" This is why I stress this point.
 
The only bad thing about Meme is that she's around fourteen years old and spent the majority of that time in the Star Army prior to SAINT she was Black Ops, and when SAINT came along she likely was in SAINT. So she's a bit overqualified for it. And I'm a bit apprehensive about bringing someone like that into a plot as a PC. Besides, I doubt Cho would let her go, even with Kotori trying to pull her off. ^^;

So it is entirely possible for this Sprite to go down the SAINT track I suppose. Though one of the reasons she'd insist on going to the Byakuren would likely be due to the fact Fuyu (The Sprite) acted as the Avatar of the Asamoya. And Byakuren is in a sense her little sister. So her reasons aren't related to Kotori or the Miharu Clan, but of a protectiveness of what she considers her family I guess?

Not going to lie, that's likely a flimsy excuse, but I'll try and think of something with more substance later on.
 
That makes sense and sounds good enough for me, Soresu. Hopefully Fred will concur.

In the Eucharis, we've reached the point where Sune and Reika are ready to transfer to the Byakuren (as in today), which is why I was asking about when the RP would start (I don't want to transfer them somewhere inactive).
 
I'm sure I could make things work out somehow for Meme - in fact, that even seemed easy. On the other hand, it raises an element I've been trying to avoid: having someone outrank Khasidel's character. So, yeah, perhaps better not to involve her.

I think I've determined a way to have things work out for Fuyu. Basically, I figure the Asamoya sprites could've been involved the moment Hinoto came to them as proposed: "My clan's company intends to pursue plans building upon the Himiko project. Would you like in?"

I don't know if they'd want to become part of Miharu Light Industries (or become a 'family' part of the Miharu clan), but it seems to make sense to join forces. Both 'families' have vested interest in seeing a future come up from the hardware they were born from, and lives of their own to make in the process.

SAINT has no choice but to allow Kotori to come onboard with Kosuka if the princess wishes - she's entitled to her samurai bodyguard. In the same way, Hinoto could have put her foot down and said that the new ship was not leaving spacedock without an MLI observer, and that could be Fuyu.

Wes, I wholly understand your concerns and I'd be more than happy to accommodate you. My worries, though, rest on the people interested that are not yet ready. I'm not going to be able to stall for very long before the pre-assignment briefing because I've no intention to let people stew once we actually get started.

Meaning, if the person reading this paragraph has a character pending creation that isn't yet ready to be roleplayed in my plot, you need to get the character done and completed ASAP. I'd rather not have to leave you behind.
 
My interest has been caught by this interesting thing of interest. My Kyoka is the only character I have available for this, though I have a completely non-SaOY character that could be technician. Kyoka would only be able fulfill the capacity for infantry and caretaker, while Seiren (is in dire need of a profile update) is a good technician, and may or may not come with a recommendation from Luca Pavone. I'll have to take up the transfer with Luca himself if the latter is more preferred.

Moogle, I appreciate your interest. However, being a GM also involves looking out for you, so, I'll make the following observations:

1- It looks like you're in downtime, but would it make sense for Kyoka to just up and leave like this? SAINT isn't going to order her off her present assignment, after all. Excuses can be made, but we need to make sure this feels coherent for your sake, the sake of the people you leave behind, and the sake of the new characters you'll get to roleplay with.

2- Are you sure this is the best career path for her? She looks like Aeon's highest ranked PC. This gives you unique opportunities you may not find on Byakuren.

3- You don't have a lot of active alts. In fact, Kyoka appears to be 'your main'. Infantry combat can be pivotal in my plots, but it's also infrequent. If you have an knack for promoting your own roleplay and keeping busy, you might manage. But I'm a little scared of you ending up being bored due to your dedication to this character. Most other infantry characters involved are from people with their thumbs in multiple stories already.

This said, we can find ways to involve Kyoka. The key is her being 'free'. One good way of doing that is to have her go back to school.

She's an Heisho. NCOs usually get leadership classes and such. If she hasn't done so yet, if could be her window to do so.

Or... she's an Itto Heisho. That's just before being a Juni. She could be testing out for a 'speciality' to earn her Juni rank.

Either way, SAPM could note her file and her notable service record, and submit it to SAINT's attention - giving her the window to make her involved.
 
Hm. You're right. I really didn't think this through. No more major character decisions on little sleep for me! Maybe some other day, when Kyoka feels like a transfer is actually necessary. I'm in the middle of redeveloping all of my characters at the moment, so she was the first to be updated. It's about time, anyways. I've been kinda slacking with developing my characters. Until we meet again!
 
With Kai going on hiatus, this would also be an ideal time for some of the YSS Genesis veterans to transfer characters to the Byakuren.
 
I could agree with the Family thing. After all Asamoya was Miharu's sister ship. And in some way I suppose that makes the Sprites of both ships in a sense, 'cousins' of sorts.
 
Poking this thread back to life. Look! I'm a necromancer! xD

I wanted to point out that the Byakuren plot is soon to make a transition from its prologue to the first mission. This is an entry point for me to accept new players.

To refresh the plot's premise: Princess Kotori Ketsurui is a troubled warhero whom Star Army Command worries may turn against the Empire due to a myriad of uncanny oddities surrounding her. Right now, she's leaving Yamatai on a ship she's secure in order to hunt after rebels and assassins. Some are former-SAINT defectors, others are traitor Ketsurui Samurai-turned-assassins.

So, they're bringing around a group of loyal Star Army/SAINT individuals to both serve Kotori and put her under surveillance. In some plots, it's easy to just work to earn your commanding officer's favor and follow her lead; but here you can't do it blindly - she might turn out being an antagonist herself and it'd be your job to watch out for that.

As fair warning, I'd say that Byakuren is a challenging plot to RP in. The PCs in it are put to high standard where they - at the very least - need to not screw up on the covert nature of their mission.

As such, while I accept new entries, I will only do so for people that are already SARP veterans. Basically, I'm aiming for people I know can stick around and will be active.

PCs can be existing ones, or ones created for the occasion. That can go from the Star Army soldier to the undercover SAINT agent. If you're interested, tell me and we can discuss it.
