Before 'Genetic Perfection'

Sacre walked along the hallways of Kyope, generally following the rest of the group from the Kaiyo, but looking around at the stormy landscape. She still wanted to go knife shopping. She had heard that they had some intresting underwater designs that were made here, but she hadn't seen any yet.

Lingering around where Sacre was, a couple of feet apart, Walter's gaze wandered, his imagination captivated by the skyscrapers and the gloomy weather. Were it not for his orange eyes, would his form would meld with the scenery within the murky reflection of the windows around him?

Perhaps.

He noticed that the Separa medic close-by had the same look of curiousity. Walter thought on it, and shrugged; curiousity has beaten caution once more. "What are you looking for?", the tall Minkan asked.

Sacre considered the Minkan for a moment, she didn't really know what she had been looking at. She wasn't sure if she really wanted to make the effort to be friends with him. However, she never really wanted to make the effort to be friends with anyone. She decided to be honest. "The storm is beautiful, in its own way. Although I was thinking more about knives."

"... I see," Walter simply replied. "I heard the..." The techie paused, and wrestled with the pronounciation before he resumed. "The Iromakuanhe are capable of fine crafts." He looked around, noticing a good portion were heading to the hotel. "Tell me, are you alright in this kind of weather?"

Sacre gave Walter an odd look, she was not sure how to respond to that question. It also supposed that she was allright in any weather. She looked back out at the storm. "As alright as I can be, I suppose. Why do you ask? You get made a doctor when I wasn't looking?" She teased.

The Minkan raised an eyebrow, and kept his cool. "Only asked because I, Walter Hyde, would be happy go along with you." He bowed curtley before Sacre. "I have many a reason as to why, but I can understand if you don't have the patience that I have." Walter looked up, his neutral expression replaced with a soft, knowing smile, however enigmatic. "So, may I ..." He thought 'escort' might be a bit much for Sacre. "... propose that we find a artisan's store together?"

Sacre realized she had completely misunderstood his question. She nodded, "Certainly," She said as they started walking together. "Do you have anywhere in mind?" She asked.

"Hm... Nowhere specific comes to mind." He looked around, eyeing the many storefronts and skyscrapers, their huge glowing signs giving the light that the thick clouds above them would not. "Although I have read up on facts of Kyope after announcements; aside from the convention that will take place, there is a small marketplace up ahead. Sometime after the Iromakuanhe established stellar relations, small-time shops began to grow as a response to the arrival of foreigners."

"Will any of them sell knives though? Good ones, not some cheap mass produced pieces of crap. I guess we will see." Sacre remarked as they entered the small marketplace. There were a lot of shops in the marketplace, most of them small like Walter had said. They wandered into the first one and were met with a bewildering array of biological creatures, but with refrences to how they would fit on a person. Sacre started to wander through it, intruiged by the mysterious organisms.

Walter seemed to be unfazed as he walked inside. "In smaller markets? Unlikely." A great majority of them happen to be at least semi-aquatic, at least from a glance. In truth, he is actually weird out and mesmerized by the displays.

A moment later, the Iromakuanhe shopkeeper greeted them upon entry. "Why hello there! Were you two looking to buy something?"

Sacre looked around, "Perhaps? I don't even know what I'm looking at." She said curiously.

The shopkeeper nodded, "Well, you have come to the right place. What we sell are some of the best and most advanced Symbiotics here. Some people don't know that we don't do well with cybernetic enhancements, so we developed biological enhancements instead. Symbiotics allow my tattoo here for example to glow." The shopkeeper motioned to her arm where there was a tattoo that was clearly glowing even in the well lit shop.

The technician raised an eyebrow; biological enhancements are unique in the regard that his body won't react violently against them, unlike cybernetics. He looked at his hands, rough from lack of care and a surplus of work over a several years, and thought on that offer. Walter felt hesitant on whether or not to follow through with the procedure, wondering if this could possibly break Star Army conduct for getting bodily enhancements from outside Yamatai.

On the other hand, Walter mentally chasitised himself for thinking so cowardly; why must he continue to put so much thought into decisions like these? "H... How much do you charge for your services?" Walter asked, with a noticably wary expression.

"It varies depending on exactly what modifacation you want. Some such as getting a tattoo like the one I showed you are cheap. Others, like extensive modifications to your dermal layer or additions of limbs become more expensive." She explained.

The more he thought it, the more he grew fond of the idea of getting one enhancement of his choosing. Although if Walter is going to get one, he would prefer a cheaper option. "I would like to get a tattoo; I believe I know what kind I would like, too."

Sacre for her part was wandering the small shop looking around when one caught her eye. It was a modifacation that allowed one to make bone daggers. Sacre was intrigued, somehow the idea of growing knives inside her made her feel good. She wandered to anouther part of the store, but wasn't really looking where she was going because she was thinking of the daggers. She paused, looking at the options, but not really seeing them.

The shopkeep smiled, "Excellent sir, do you know the design you would like and the colors?" She shifted slightly to ask Sacre. "Is there anything I can help you with? Our virginity restoration is quite popular."

Sacre realized that she had been standing in the sexual modification area. She instantly blushed and moved to rejoin Walter. "No... Nothing like that." She said.

Walter smiled at Sacre, refraining from laughing at her for her misstep... Or mis-slither. Since Separa... Well... Her blushing was more than enough to satisfy his own mischevious side, to put it bluntly.

Well, not really. Walter just gave Sacre a small nudge in the arm, letting out a small chuckle.

Sacre's tail moved before she even really thought about what she was doing. It hit his head with a clearly unhappy, but not injurious, impact. Sacre felt the anger rising inside of her, but calmed herself down, he might not know that she didn't like being touched. She still gave him a death glare.

Walter rubbed the back of his head, and returned that firey gaze with mirthful, and knowing, eyes. Just like he thought.

The Minkan shook his head, shaking off his foolery, and turned is attention to the shopkeep. "I'd like a... I suppose you can call it a orange shooting star. Not the five-pointed shape, an actual star. The star would be here," he put is palm over his heart, "and flares of energy trailing out over the shoulder," he spoke as he traced his open hand over his left shoulder, "and for reference, the sun should be as big as my palm."

"A shooting star, huh? That's different, but I can do that for you!" The Iromakuanhe looked back at Sacre, still keeping a postive vibe. "Is there something you are interested in? Perhaps a tattoo like your friend, or something a little more?"

Sacre thought about the knives modifacation. The idea of drawing a knife out of her arm was oddly pleasent. Then there was what she said about virginity restoration. Sacre had never really thought about it, but the idea lodged somewhere in her head. "Ah... no not really." Sacre said, slightly distractedly.

"Very well, feel free to look around our selection while we work on your friend in the back. The procedure varies between from twenty to forty minutes, depending on complexities, so I insist that you make yourself comftorable." The shopkeeper gestured to Walter to go to the back with her. "Right this way!"

With that, the two walk through a door behind the counter, the shopkeeper discussing the details of the enhancement to Walter.

Sacre wandered the shop as she waited for the proceedure to be done. However, she kept finding herself drawn to the throwing knife modifacation. She picked one up and weighed it in her hands for an instant before putting it down and getting lost in thought about the knife. She found herself, annoyingly again in the sexual modifacation area. She turned away in disgust, she had never enjoyed sex. However, that only served to bring her back to the knives. This time she held each of the demonstration knifes for a long moment and then make a mock throwing gesture to see how they would throw. There was one that fit very well with her style of throwing. However, they were expensive, and Sacre wasn't sure about such a large modifacation.

While Sacre waited for Walter's procedure to be completed, he was pinned to a comftorable, yet intimidating, operator's table. The shopkeeper, before the procedure began, was kind enough to tell him that those omnious carbon-reinforced restraints won't be needed for the application of the tattoo.

After thirty six minutes of modification and discussion of Iromakuane culture, the shopkeeper came out of the back along with her client. "Thank you, have a good evening!"

"Your services were nothing less of impeccible; thank you," Walter replied back. He looked over to Sacre, and gestured her over. "May we move on?"

Sacre glanced furtively at the knife modifacations that she had been looking at. "Sure, lets go." She said.

Walter left the store, along with Sacre, only to find that the weather was chilly as well as stormy. It felt like the epitome of a lousy autumn. "I honestly expected you to get the knife upgrade." He said, promptly putting his hands in his pockets to keep them at least semi-warm as the wind blew softly. "It would have suited you nicely."

Sacre nodded, "They would, but well, it's a big investment. Not just in terms of money, did you look at the potental side effects? I'd also have to take supliments every day for the rest of my life to feed them right. In a way, I'm not sure I'm ready for that kind of commitment."

"The tattoo application managed to cost quite a bit more than I expected," Walter said in agreement, "and yet it is still the cheapest service. So I like to believe you made the right decision."

After a moment of silence, the Minkan asked another question. "... I am not afraid to ask this, but if this is too personal for you, you are free to tell me so. Is it true that you do not like to be touched?"

Sacre thought for a moment, "It's a bit more complicated then that. I don't like being touched, it brings back bad memories. I can handle touching just fine, but I have to be the one to do it." Sacre said honestly.

"Not even if they nudged you?"

"Especially if it was unexpected and unwanted." Sacre explained as they headed back into the market to shop.
