SARP Video Game

So, this kinda is off of Zairyo's thread. On the subject of a SARP video game: What if instead of an RPG, it were an MMO? There are a few free MMO clients out there. DragonNova and I have talked and exchanged some ideas, we were definetly for the concept. Also, as I have a life (and I hope that all of you do to), this would be a pet project and for the players around here, it isn't a commercial venture.

Multiverse This is a free 3D MMO Maker. I've downloaded it and tinkered with it a bit, but haven't been able to do too much (well, not much at all). I think this would be the coolest way, but I'm not sure how to really use it.

Eclipse A free 2D MMO Maker. I haven't had the chance to try it out yet, but it seems pretty easy, but not as potentially cool.

Anyway, I guess I'm asking this: Who'd be interested in doing a project like this? Again this would just be a pet project.
 
Wes turned offers like these down before, mostly for copyright ownership issues/complications or the risk thereof.

fyi Mizunoyoroko, I volunteered myself to help with said pet project. I have volunteered to write the storyline after i have gotten some info on what to get started on.

The 3D one would be perfect for a hangout. Kinda like PS3's Home. For a full game it would be too ambitious I think.
 
I would like to see something like Gaia Towns--basically, IRC chat + cool avatars, adding RP-related visuals to the text.
 
My two cents; classic, 2D-sprite-style gameplay is win; low-grade, choppy 3d, like everyone and their mother's happy funtime super emperor of korea free-to-play MMO, is fail.

I'm in favor of the 2d client for this reason.
 
Well, I was thinking more like early Final Fantasy or Etrian Odyssey but I suppose either way.

Anyways; you can get much higher resolutions and artistic details for a much lower investment of processing power (and time, for rendering) using 2d graphics.

Plus, sprites are the classic medium for turn-based RPGs. Which I hope this is.

I'm still up to it in what little I can actually do to get it done, problem is and always will be who will program this thing and who will work on sprites.
 
we could probably talk Luca into throwing some sprites together. And just for reference, I've used Eclipse. It's actually fairly nice, but I don't have enough time to program. I can help test the beta's though.

*jumps up and down* I was big on Gaia online, if that's what you're talking about! That was my first rping site when I was a kid! Unless you're talking about the Spanish game, in which case, I have no idea about that...

I could talk for days about Gaia! I was heavily involved in the "breedables" which would be where you bought images of different types of fantastical animals that started out as babies and would grow and evolve and could be bred with other animals of their own kind to make babies! And you would RP the animals interacting with one another! It was so much fun as a kid but I don't know if I would touch something like that as an adult!
