Here's a thread for discussion of RP in the Yamatai forum.

The Yamatai forum is for RP that takes place in Yamatai space or is primarily focused on characters of the Yamatai Star Empire, including Star Army of Yamatai ships that do not have their own forum.

As per suggestion, the Tenth Fleet stuff that happens separate of plots will also go in this forum.

Actually it's already there!

I just posted an Introductory post for what will be a place for RPing Masako while she isn't in a plot.

The introduction is just a self post, however I do plan on making her available for Joint-Posts. Some maybe JPs done between characters Masako knows and/or hasn't seen in a long time. Others might be requests from others trying to introduce new characters.

Either way, this makes Masako available for RPs with any plot-less characters.

Just as a general reminder, the Constitution requires us to elect the next Imperial Premier this year. So if you want to give it a shot, get a character ready and start getting that character "known."

Nominations should be posted in this thread by the end of the month! We'll elect in November.

Also, what do you think we should put in the Yamataian Embassy on Nepleslia Prime? So far I want to put a hospital there for Jiyuuians who live in Nepleslia and need replacement NH-22C bodies.

WIP Kodian.

Are you happy with that rendition, Wes?

It makes the Kodians approachable, yes. I sets them in uniform too, which I figure is also good. But I find the approahability to be a double-edged sword, as it seems to detract from how larger than life they could be. The sketch... makes me (unkindly?) think of them as Carebears in uniforms.

I've read the RP surrounding the first contact with the Kodians. I'll admit it the sketch above falls very shy of how... badass they seemed presented as.

In my mind, they were huge - in a way that would make them awkward inside starship corridors. They seemingly could stand on their two hindpaws and walk around like that while having their forepaws fully capable of manipulating things/tool usage... but they could go down on all four just as naturally. They also had this gritty kind of cybernetic components and other semi-armor-like plated grafts on them that might've made them seem more at home with Nepleslians than Yamataians.

I do have something I could point out as an example: the war bears from the Golden Compass movie.

This guy has presence. This guy isn't like us, he could tower over most of us if he stood upright, and probably would only be able to fit within most of our living spaces going on four paws. This guy wouldn't wear uniforms since it'd be silly to try tofit them in one of those, but we could fashion "Star Army harnesses" to accomodate them. Our bodyarmor/power armor approach wouldn't workwith them either, requiring other arrangements.

All of this is less convenient, less homogenous than what the sketch above would offer. But it would be so much cooler to envision them so. Even though it's still essentially an animal-like anthropomorphic alien, it;d be different than us, and so in a way would feel more alien when we'd face or deal with such an individual.

Yes.

I don't see why this argument is coming on the second piece of Kodian art, not the first one. I see where you're coming from, but if we made them angry looking, that wouldn't fit their pacifistic nature.

I'm not arguing. I just tried to care.

Did you want feedback on the picture or not? I'm giving you feedback. If sketches are not exploratory, and that other input cannot be considered even if it's the second piece of art that's done of them... well, I can just shut up and say nothing on the subject.

It's far easier and far lazier.

Well it is hard to give too serious feedback on the first kodian art as it was a bit cartoony and in a way would still fit into what Fred mentions in his long post. And I do have to agree that would make Kodians be more alien, interesting and give them a feeling of awe if you ever see one. Plus it would set them aside from bear-like kohanians. That said I did mostly imagine them walking on their hindlegs. So maybe they should be able to walk on all four, but when they walk on just two they should not be hindered by it like regular bear is, but rather they could choose whichever is more comfortable.

As for uniforms I think Kodians have their own military. They are part of Empire, but they have their own politics and own military force. Now I am unsure if they are more allies and vassals of the Empire, rather then outright part of it.

I am showing off the sketch primarily to show that we've got new Yamatai art coming. I wouldn't ask the artist to entirely redraw the art unless there was something wrong with it; however, there's nothing wrong, because the artist was told to use the first Kodian artwork as a reference (which is why I mentioned it). While feedback/comments are welcome it was already approved art (with minor changes) so the final version will look like that too. This work was already ordered and paid for as part of a group of illustrations of the Star Army uniform. The purpose of the commission was to show more species/racial diversity in the official artwork for the Star Army of Yamatai. Please don't be mad at me. You asked if I was satisfied and I answered truthfully because I am. We can always get more "extreme" Kodian art in the future, though.

I love the Kodian!!! It looks like me but slightly less hairy... it would need like another inch of hair and a goatee to truly look like me

That we've never had an actual character list for the Yamataian faction until this morning shows just how important the Star Army of Yamatai is to the faction. Nevertheless, it boggles the mind that there was no list of Yamataian characters when all the other factions have had them for years. So that's finally changed and you can find the list of YSE characters here: Yamataian Characters. If your character was in the independent list but lives or works in Yamatai, then please move them when you get a chance. Note that because the Star Army is so huge, it will still have its own page for its personnel. I've already moved the SSS list onto the Yamatai page.
