Gashmere - Four council members of Gashmere's General Assembly were killed today in an apparently-coordinated series or what the Imperial Yamataian Goverment described as "politically motivated assassinations."
As YE 38 approaches, it brings a new election and tensions are already high as the typically peaceful Kodian population has been increasingly divided by partisan politics and bombastic rhetoric as two closely-matched political parties desperately struggle for power. On one side, the Alien Peace Council wants to more fully open Gashmere's doors to the Yamatai Star Empire, which the Kodians joined a decade ago in YE 27. On the other side, the racist and isolationist Anti-Xenoist League wants to make Kodians and independent system with little to no contact with aliens.
Tensions between the two groups have been high ever since the First Mishhuvurthyar War and have slowly be rising even further.
Two council members were killed in a Alien Peace Council meeting when a jelly bowl exploded into shrapnel, injuring 17 others. A third APC member was killed when his home was set on fire. The fourth member killed was an Anti-Xenoist League, who was shot by a former Star Army of Yamatai soldier, a Kodian named Brun Malo, who claimed he had knowledge that the AXL council member had been responsible for the house fire and had went to seek revenge on his own. In addition the AXL council member, Malo also killed 9 bodyguards. Malo is currently in custody under murder charges, and investigators are still searching for the other killers.
Political analysts are worried the assassinations could tip the scales in the upcoming election.
