Location: Alert Bunker, Fort Shotou, Daichi
Time: 06:35 am

A lone Nekovalkyrja walked from the barracks towards the Modified CRDM that served as the briefing room for the Alert Squadron at Fort Shotou. Kayo, the squadron admin for the 2X-F21 paused to look at the sunrise. The sun was just clearing the mountains to the east, the morning mist on the mountains made the sun a beautiful red set in the thin white clouds. How beautiful, the sunrise looks like the Hinomaru. Such a nice way to start the day. she thought.

Kayo walked up to the briefing room for the Alert Squadron at Fort Shotou her shoulder length brown hair blowing in the morning breeze. She activated the door and watched it swing open. As she stepped in the internal lighting turned on and illuminated the room. On the far wall a series of aerial maps were mounted, the first was of the area around the fort, the second was the area around Ryou the SSS settlement. The last one was a map that showed the entire continent of Tsume. There were four rows of chairs with six in each row. They led up to the podium to her left. As she looked at it on the wall to the left was the 2XF Logo and the YSS Heitan was on the right. At the opposite end of the module there was the bathroom, and a Ke-T8-M3102 Comfort Module installed for the pilots use as well.

Kayo walked up to the podium and deposited the datapad she was carrying on it. She reached into the podium and took out a tray with a glass and an empty pitcher on it. She walked down to the Comfort Module and filled the pitcher with cold water. She turned and walked back to the podium and put the small tray on it.

Kayo then walked back and took a seat at the rear row of chairs.

Hayashi Hachirou-Shoi had woken earlier in the morning, and had spent most of his time until now by his Kawarime, looking over the newly-issued Aerospace Flight Suits. As far as he knew, the 21st had been the first to receive the suits.

The Deck Crew Chief, Hibiyashi Sekai, had mumbled something about 'making a checklist' and wandered off. He would have to make it a point to introduce the Jôtô Heisho to the newly-arrived members of the Squadron, before the Neko could rip one of their heads off.

But in the now, he waited just outside the briefing room, formulating something witty to growl at anyone too new to know him. "How's the weather up there?" sounded good, or even "Did you know no one is very tall, lying down?". He liked the latter phrase better.

Lynn Yagami, his Electronic Warfare Specialist, was already in a seat in the back, practically inside the corner. She quietly waited for everyone else to arrive.

Minoru wasn't surprised when he woke before dawn broke. Adjusting sleep schedules to a different planetary day/night cycle always took a bit of time, typically around two weeks to fully adjust less if you were regular about things. Even so, he has only arrived a couple of days ago so it was unrealistic that he would have adjusted just yet. Might as well make use of the spare time.

Putting on his exercise uniform he stepped out into the predawn air. He could feel the brisk sea breeze from the nearby ocean. Aside from some graveyard shifters, he was more or less alone on the airfield. He started jogging around the perimeter. It was nice out, perhaps he should make this a regular thing? Certainly it beat trying to get in his exercise regime during the middle of the day. After completing one lap around the field he increased his pace. Not that his body really *needed* the exercise. Like all Yamatians and Nekos his body's metabolism was engineered for such efficiency that simple every day activity would be enough to keep him fit and trim. Another lap finished, and a further increase in his pace. But he enjoyed it, the feel that he was earning his fitness and health. And besides, it would be hypocritical of a doctor to neglect their body wouldn't it?

Half-way through the third lap he began slowing down, going through a cool down cycle to normalize his body. And when he came to the end he was no longer breathing quite so heavilly and his muscles didn't ache quite so much. His sand colored hair matted, he went through his stretches while his muscles remained hot and limber, Minoru spared a glance at his watch. 530. The squadron had a meeting later in the morning if he remembered right. Enough time. He headed back to his billet to shower up and change. For now at least he had the room to himself, he wasn't even certain anyone else had been assigned to his billet yet.

He finished dressing, the colored panels on his uniform being the cyan of medical personnel rather than the typical navy blue of pilots. As understaffed as the 21st and the 2nd Expeditionary in general was, he didn't see that raising all too many eyebrows. He did remember one of the quartermaster clerks muttering under their breath while sizing him up though. Minoru didn't blame him. More likely than not he was going to be the largest person in the squadron, and he doubted that they stocked all that many uniforms in his size. He grabbed a couple of datapads from his bunk. He still hadn't finished reviewing all the medical records, nor the specs for the Kawarime fighters. He was worried in particular about the fighter. He had been assigned as an EWO, so it was probably a good idea to know the ship inside and out. There was also the slight worry as to whether he would actually be able to fit in the cockpit. Star Army material was typically made with a much smaller and more slender profile in mind.

He was still reading as he finished up breakfast in the mess, making his way over to CRDM the meeting would be held in. A glance up from his datapads allowed him to see Hayashi-Shoi standing by the door. It was always awkward being so much larger than his superior officers. The Shoi only reached to the middle of the doctor's chest. And bowing only felt like it accentuated that fact. It almost made him regret keeping his physical specifications from his birth body when he had swtiched over. Almost.

Minoru smiled as he stopped and gave a quick bow towards Hayashi. "Good morning Shoi. I hope I am not late to the breifing."

"It's Hayashi-Shoi, Doc." Hachirou growled. "At least for now. Go get seated, before your wing mates take all the good seats near the front."

"Of course, Hayashi-Shoi please forgive my rudeness. Excuse me."

Minoru answered with practiced formal courtesy as he maneuvered around the smaller man, stooping slightly so as not to hit his head on the door as he entered.

It would probably be best actually for him to sit in the rear. He could easily see from there and he wouldn't block people who sat behind him. Smiling and offering a small bow to the two Nekos already in the room before taking a seat at the end of the back row, setting his datapads down for now.

"Good Morning."

Nekki Shin, Nito-Hei, recently assigned to the 21st, strode into the briefing room, covering his mouth to try to hide a particularly loud yawn as he found his way over to the comfort module, pulling out a canned tea. Quickly opening the can, Shin took a large gulp of the refreshing tea, smiling and going "Aah" as he moved towards the aerial maps. Before Shin could actually get to the maps, his somewhat absent minded brain noticed the other people in the briefing room. Smiling, Shin gave a courteous bow to the other people in the room, and then stood up straight. "Nito-Hei Nekki Shin, callsign Ryusei, assigned to the Fighting Diamonds just yesterday." Finishing his introduction, Shin allowed himself to relax, his accent changing from the crisp Kyoto standard, to the more laid back Malifaran country boy accent that he was more accustomed to using. "Well, Its a mighty fine pleasure meeting Y'all, seeing as how you'll be looking after my ass and whatnot when it comes down to the chicken shooting. I aint all that familiar with this planet, so I'll jes be studying these aerial maps." With that, Shin bowed to the gathered people again, before turning his attention to the maps on the wall.

Yoshi had finished his breakfast and made his way out to the fighter he road rear-seat in in. He climbed up and slid into his seat, he powered on the avionics and uploaded the latest atmospheric data he received from the tower. After completing a system check he powered down the systems and climbed out. Guess I'll head over to the briefing room, be a chance to get to know some of the folks before the Chui starts the meeting. Yoshi thought. As he walked across the tarmac he saw Sekai approaching. "Good Morning Hibiyashi-Jôtô Heisho, V8X2 32-0036 checks out fine. See you after the briefing I guess." he called out to the Neko.

As he approached the bunker he saw the XO standing at the door. A quick check of his comm showed that he still had plenty of time. Yoshi walked up and bowed, "Morning Hayashi-Shoi, looks like a great day for flying sir." he said entering the room. Spotting Yagami sitting towards the back he found a seat next to the Nekovalkyrja. "Morning Lynn-Hei. I see we finally got some of those new pilots that the Chui has been talking about. Any idea of any of these folks are EWO's as well?"

"Hayashi-Shoi was telling me about 'Doc'. The tall one over there." Lynn said, not caring to point -- he was very visible.

"Otherwise, no, I haven't heard anything. Sorry, Yoshi-Hei."

"We might have one or two more come in. I think numbers 39 and 40 are 1b variants, aren't they?"

He smiled warmly and waved over at Yoshi and Lynn where they sat deeper in the row. It was not as if he could not hear them talking after all.

"Forgive me. Santo Hei Akechi Minoru. I've been assigned to number 37. I'll also be acting as the squadron medic. A pleasure to meet you both."

Atsui drove the Type 30 ESTV that she had requisitioned the evening before along one of the temporary access roads. A cloud of dust trailed behind her as she sped along. She was heading back to the Alert Bunker after checking in with Operations at the Fort. Atsui had the squadron's orders, they were to relieve the 2X-F26 "Blood Rubies" on patrol of the outer system. A pretty boring mission, but it will give Hayashi-Shoi and I a chance to do some training with the newest members. Perhaps a few mock engagements against each other. she thought.

As Atsui drove towards the airfield she saw an Arashi-class Escort lifting off from the spaceport. "That would be the Valorous, unless I'm mistaken, must be heading up to join the Heitan in orbit." she said to herself. Ahead of her she could see the Alert Bunker, the squadron's Kawarime fighters were already sitting out on the tarmack ready for launch. As she got closer she could see Hachirou standing at the doorway. She slowed the ESTV and pulled up about 20 feet away from the bunker.

---------------------

Yoshi smiled and said, " Arashi Yoshi- Jôtô Hei, Pleased to meet you as well. So are you just an observer, or are you an EWO? If so Lynn- Ittô Hei or myself would be more than glad to help you out, answer any questions you might have."

Lynn grimaced, but nodded. She rarely said much anyway.

------

Hachirou watched the Chui pull up, but didn't do anything -- he could wait a few moments for her to at least walk up.

(OOC: This was Ninja-Edited.)

Shin was starting to get impatient, waiting in the bunker for the rest of the squadron and Numa-Chui. Looking over aerial maps just wasn't the same as being in the cockpit of a fighter. When he had been assigned to the Illustrious, there wasn't any time to get situated before Onyx Wing was sortied, and he had found himself thrown right into the fray.

But here, on Daichi, things were different. The days seemed longer out on this beautiful frontier world, and Shin wanted to go up in a fighter, just so he could see it from the sky. BUt as things were, here wouldn't be able to get into the air until he was given permission to by Numa-Chui, seeing as how he didn't technically own his Kawarime and thus couldn't take it for joyrides.

"Hmph. I bet a Ketsurui gets to take Star Army equipment out on Joyrides."

The large medic laughed.

"With the personnel shortage I've been booked as an EWO. Unfortunately my oath will not allow me to actually be a combat pilot myself but there are too few people for me to only be an observer. And thank you for the offer Arashi-Hei, Lynn-Hei. As much of an amateur as I am at this, I fear that I will have many questions. I place myself in your hands."

He smiled warmly and bowed from his seat. His diction is rather formal, but his tone of voice has a friendly, warm quality to it. He leans back, placing a hand to his chin.

"Still...I wonder who I will be flying with. I haven't seen anyone else assigned to number 37."

Atsui climbed out of the Type 30 ESTV and walked over to Hachirou. "Good morning Shoi, looks like we are finally going to be doing some flying today." she said as she approached Hachiro.

Hachirou nodded, stepping in ahead of the Chui.

"Atten-chun!" He barked at the Squadron inside. "Officer on Deck!"

A short, brown-haired Neko quietly slipped into the briefing room and took a seat somewhere near the back. She hoped no one would take much notice to her, she wasn't very fond of public attention. Her eyes darted around the room as she tried to see if she recognized anyone from training or any previous assignments.

Atsui took a moment to give the members of the Squadron time to come to attention. She stepped into the CRDM and surveyed the briefing room. A quick scan allowed her to see who was present, and who was missing. Given the squadron's size and the fact that she had interviewed most of them over the past few days. It was easy to spot the people not present.

Atsui walked up to the podium and placed her datapad on top of it. After a last moment of scanning the room to look these people under her charge in the eye she spoke. "At ease people. Be seated." she said.

"Good Morning Diamonds. I have a few things to share before I start with our mission briefing. First, the Taisho has taking the Chiharu and most of the new fighting ships out on a training mission. Since there has been no sign of enemy activity in this region, she has left the Heitan, Courageous, Valorous, and Audacious in orbit over Daichi. The ships from the Logistics Group have departed to pickup some new equipment from Origin Industries." She reach for the pitcher of water and poured herself a glass.

"We will be launching at 0800 hours and relieving the 2X-F26 Blood Rubies who have been on patrol for 24 hours. This will be a long duration patrol. During which Hayashi-Shoi and myself will schedule some mock engagements. Mission load out is as follows.
In addition to the onboard weapons each fighter will carry a Ke-T8-W3101 Mini-Missile Launcher Pod, and a Ke-T8-W3103 Countermeasure Module.

After launching we will rendezvous with the Blood Rubies above the moon Sennyo." she paused to let what she said sink in.

As soon as attention was called a previously hidden figure smacked it's head on the seat it was sleeping under with a quiet “Oopfh.”, before standing up and releaving a tall, rather skinny man wearing orange tinted wrap-arounds and red panels on his uniform. The man rubbed his forehead for a second, then snapped to attention like the others, in time to listen to the briefing.

Ren sat in the briefing room quietly, looking around and listening. Her mouth held a pacifier on a string that she was chewing on as a way to calm her first time jitters. Since she didn't have to talk at the moment she figured it was alright to use such comfort devices. Still she wasn't sure which pilot she was assigned to, and she was starting to get nervous. She snapped to attention as it was called, pacifier still in her mouth as she half chewed on the soft plastic. She was an EWO, and she knew that the man she was assigned to was named Shin, but she didn't know which pilot that was yet.

"Ah, so we'll going to be spending a nice day-long picnic in Daichi's outer system?" Shin spoke up from his seat, lean't back in a relaxed posture, a somewhat cocky smile on his face as he looked around the room at the rest of the squadron, Vermilion bangs hanging down over his face, one or two strands partially covering his glasses.

"Well, I really shouldn't be surprised, it's just that I'm used to being thrown into combat, without an opportunity to rest or relax." The Yamataian sat up straight, adjusting his eyeglasses and wiping the bridge of his nose. "Atleast, that is what it was like on the Illustrious, right Yaeko, Kail? Anyway, Numa Chui, who'll my EWO be for the duration of the patrol, and who will my wingmates be?"
