I'm going to make this quick and easy to understand, as it's quite the touchy subject.

Although the more specific diagnosis is yet unknown, I am autistic. That said, it's hard for me to understand the feelings of others, and I may make comments or questions that, to "normal" people, seem awkward and/or inappropriate/objectionable. I apoligize in advance, and for anything I may have already said.

What is the specific condition and it's band, Jack?

I have aspergers syndrome and I suspect several other users here have aspergers whether they are aware of it or not.

That reminds me, I have Apsergers Syndrome too. I've managed to fight it down a bit with the aid of a correctional school I attended when I was 6 till 11.
That was the best 5 years that happened to me, if I didn't go, who knows what would have happened to me?

Rather than have provided correction, I opted on investigating my condition and through borrowed chunks of Dharma/Budhism and self reflection techniques, I learned how to cope and empathize with others.

I agree, Luca. It's probably one of the best things I've ever done.

The specific diagnosis is unknown. I have symptoms of many different types of autism, but not enough of any of them to be classified under just one. And i'm too busy to worry about correctional aid, but the aid I had when I was younger...I don't remember. I also have an awkward amnesia of everything from my birth to 7th grade, although I obviously remember how to speak english and such I cannot remember social interactions and the like.

The number of reported cases of Autism has increased roughly 900% over the last decade alone, even though Autism's classification has been around since the 1940s. I knew that it was a lot, but I didn't imagine we'd have so many as members around here.

My professor has a theory that the 'Autism epidemic' may be simply due to the widespread use of the internet or misdiagnosis. Any smart, introverted computer geek virtually always has several 'symptoms' of high functioning autism, which may mean large scale misdiagnosis simply due to a shift in culture and lifestyle (the birth of the 'nerd' sub-culture and the internet).

http://www.kuro5hin.org/poll/1084822952_IlaByqez Note that only 26% of respondents actually outright said 'no, I'm not autistic in any form.' Of course, it's not exactly a huge sampling, but still.

Not that I'm saying anything about the cases in this thread, but I've found that plenty of people on the internet have convinced theirselves that they have some mental illness or another. It's like a hypochondriac with a list of illnesses- if you read enough symptoms out of the DSM-IV for long enough, you'll eventually find SOMETHING that you think sounds like yourself.

And this has been my rant against self-diagnosis e-psychiatry.

There's a difference between "self e-diagnosis" and 5 years of testing and medicine usage, bud. I didn't make this topic to start a discussion on this. I made it to give fair warning.

I know- I was responding to Leutre's derail. I have nothing against people who've actually been diagnosed with it by a professional, and like I said in my earlier post, I wasn't expressing any opinion about the people in this thread.

There is a form of mental illness known as non-verbal language disorder. This isn't a big deal on the internet, but subtext and body language are difficult for me to understand. I just wanted to chip in on that.

I was misdiagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome before. They were wrong at first, because I have less than 20% of the symptoms of Asperger's Syndrome.
