I was reading this thread on Reddit and it got me thinking, Abwehrans could have a lot of medically significant problems when then visited low-gravity worlds, in the same way that living on the international space station can make astronauts go blind. The major things I'm seeing are high blood pressure, difficulty breathing, and loss of bone density.

Also, wouldn't they start growing by like a foot if they hung out on normal-grav worlds too long?

Maybe some sort of local gravity field projector and a pressure suit could be used to solve this.

While there probably would be some problems with extended visitation I think that topic generally assumes that the person in question is human(just skimmed didn't read the whole thing). Depending on how their internals work some of those problems might not even show up at all.

An adult would not start growing as their skeletal structure is mature. Now children growing up in a lower gravity would tend to grow taller than those back on the homeworld.

Prolonged stays in a low g would have as you said, the loss of bone density, and loss of muscle mass, their cardio function would lessen, but that would not be an issue until they go to homeworld.

Lower pressure is the bigger issue, the pressure on Abwehr is three times higher than on earth. Basically three atmospheres, or the equivalent of being under 20 feet of water. So they would need some sort of breathing apparatus, or as you said a pressure suit, otherwise they would suffer from hypoxia, which can become fatal.

The effects are cumulative, but a short visit wouldn't be a problem.

Now if for example the Abwehran had an embassy on Yamatai, they would probably want to install gravity generators under their embassy to create their natural gravity to protect their citizens. Obviously there would need to be signs warning people coming in as to the change in gravity.

In microgravity, astronauts can grow a couple inches as their spine elongates. So an Abwehran coming from Jaspis, after six months on Yamatai, would probably grow a little for the same reasons (a less-than-normal force exerted on their body).

I agree with the rest of @Nashoba's post.

That's not growing, that's a temporary effect. And it would be must less because the difference between 0G and any G is the main factor there is no pressure on their spine.

Actually, the spine extension even happens normally on Earth every time you sleep - astronauts just get to keep it while they're up there.

I'm fairly sure, Abwehrans which would be expecting to leave the homeworld for an extended period of time, as well as planning to visit other worlds in the process, would go through an acclimatisation procedure. Gradual pressure changes to stave off hypoxia and the bends, antibiotic treatments to remove any microbial hitch hikers in their body from their homeworld which would prove very harmful to any other worlds, gradual gravity adjustment so their equilibrium would be able to balance out and their vascular system as well. Gradual adjustments, combined with drugs, would do well to make the transition viable. This same process would likely need to be applied for those returning home as well.

I think a really cool side of this that was missed is actually the adjustment of other species on an Abwehran worlds. I've touched on this a bit in Shinpi alongside @Syaoran, where those from off-world live in specialized habitats with gravity dampeners and the like. In place of that, it's almost like a culture of people who traverse the planet in suits, gravity belts, and the like to adjust. The colonial solution, in a way, and one I think is really cool.

Abwehran in general end up being a pretty cool thing, whether it's on their worlds or them going to another. It's part of the reason why I think they deserve more love than they get, but understand why due to just how odd it can be to account for the change in gravity reflecting on them. I mean, these guys are beasts of strength because they live in a higher gravity and harsher environment but STILL grew to make some folk seem small. Definitely one of the sadly ignored species on the whole in the wane of their playerbase/interest to smaller parties.

Just as a matter for house keeping and since this is one of the most recently touched Abwehran subject threads I am going to put the links to the suite of articles dealing with gravity that have been established since the original discussion:

Most options (as Legix has mentioned) are available to work both ways.
