Mind you, I have little experience with astral objects, and had used Nep's planet as a template.
Largely the planet is a show of faith that there will be one if SARP ever decided to assault the planet for whatever reason.
The race is after all, NPC and probably have no roleplay on it's homeworld, not until at least it matters (aka, fold like tech).
